They see is very existance as a threat. BJ Fan stated the other day that Obama is "evil." Now, I couldn't stand George Bush but I would hardly say he is evil. Stupid, lazy, ignorant, absolutely. But can an American president, who is elected by the American people, actually be evil? Really?

George W. Bush didn't have to be evil - there was enough evil in Dick Cheney and KKKarl Rove to go around the entire Bush Misadministration.

Nope. I never thought of President Bush as evil either. I didn't like him, and didn't like how he was running the country, but I had to put up with it, because, he won. As long as he didn't do anything illegal (which, in some cases, it's pretty clear he did), there was nothing we could do about it.

See, the republicans when they impeached Clinton basically took impeachment off of the table for anyone else after, because they used the process for their own political means, rather than what it was actually meant for. So, when during President Bush's tenure, we were torturing people, wiretapping without warrants, and so on, it really was a non-starter for most democrats who were in leadership positions.

Totally concur. However, if the Republicans gain control of the Congress in the next election, I bet that we will start seeing movements towards trying to implicate Obama in some illegal act. I don't think they will have a leg to stand on but I would put some serious money that that is the direction they move toward.

The Republican Party also impeached Andrew Johnson for political reasons in 1867. It didn't work because a handful of Republican Senators did the right thing.

And, here's the thing. What happens when after health care reform bill passes, and, well, nothing really changes in the day to day life of these people, will they then believe that Mr. Beck is a fraud? A hysterical fraud at that?

The country is NOT going to end. The government is NOT taking over health care in this country. The insurance companies are NOT going to go out of business.

It will be maybe a good thing, to go back, see what these jokers said about health care reform, and what the consequences would be for America if it passed, and compare it to what really happened.

They will look like bigger fools than they already are.

I totally agree. They will wake up the next day, after the bill passes, and the birds will be chirping and the kids will still go to school. However, their hatred of Obama is so visceral that they will turn their attention to the next political event, the elections. I think these will be amoung the nastiest election cycles we will ever experience. Hang on, it is going to get really bumpy!

I think you might be right actually. I heard an interview with Karl Rove yesterday on Fresh Air, and when asked about the current political climate, and how vitriolic it is, instead of addressing it, he talked about the election of 1800, and how Jefferson had someone write one editorial about Adams that was a lot of made stuff.

Thing is, one editorial isn't anything these days, and even back then, it didn't really amount to much.

Today, we have the interwebs, and we have talk radio, and FoxNews, where every single day, they say, and do things worse than what was done in 1800.

Sure dirty politics have always been around, but... It's a lot worse now than I ever remember it being (even during the Clinton years). Heck, we had one of local right wingers on here talking about how he hopes that Congress turns republican in November, so that they can impeach Obama (for no other reason than not liking him of course).

That's how ridiculous the right wing has gotten. Sure, we have Olberman, and Maddow, and Schultz, but our guys aren't even close to the vile and hatred that flows forth from Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, O'Reilly, Levin, Ingraham, Coulter, and so on. Not. Even. Close.

I've actually done something similar on President Obama's being elected. I saved all these crazy predictions of riots in the street and whites being forced into the lower classes, socialist takeovers, etc. in a document - most were posts on blogs to major newspapers and news outlets - to show how ridiculous they were, and it's frightening! Though, when I posted my findings, no one seemed to care.

Yes, insurance premiums have been going up, mostly because healthcare costs have been increasing so much. And then they wonder why the Medicare and Medicaid trust fund is in jeopardy! They blame it on the gov't, but it's really because healthcare costs go up for Medicaid and Medicare users too!

The premiums have been going up for several years . . . BEFORE Obama became president.

At the Health Care Summit a Senator remarked that if we cannot trust the CBO numbers, then all is lost in hoping to pass any legislation through Congress. No one in that room disagreed with him, only to say that they trusted the CBO's numbers, but they did not trust the data that was given to the CBO to come up with the score that they did for the bill.

Why? Because both sides rely on data from the CBO to support their legislation. They need the CBO and aren't about to criticize them directly.

See, I'm still trying to figure out how your taxes went down under Bush... Yes, he lowered them, but that just meant less tax money collected, as money was being spent on two wars, the TARP act, the deficit and debt going up...

I'm not entirely sure how things would be under the Republicans, except that they'd lower your taxes and let your happy safe bubble pop when the Democrats regain power, acting as if they didn't set the stage for this while they were in power.

Obama has been surrounded by Marxist teachers his whole life. If this healthcare bill gets passed it will be a slippery slope to a socialism. The bill doesn't get any teeth until 2014 and by that time Pelosi, Reed and Obama will be gone and we will have to suffer years of their progressive movement that will continue to grow. In my college years I was a daycare center teacher. One day I heard a child on the playground screaming total bloody murder and ran to find him hanging underneath a slide on a cross bar. His face was bright red and his eyes were tightly shut. I asked him what was wrong and he screamed he, "didn't want to fall,"... and I laughed.

... his feet were dangling just a few inches off the ground. I am talking two, maybe three inches.

I told him to just let go and he screamed and cried. I grabbed a hold of him and said, "Look. Just let go." He started to kick his legs and tried to actally twist out of my arms, and in his own panic, his hands slipped and he landed with a soft thud on to his feet. After a few deep breaths, and a few deep sobs, it was clear that he was safe and I could go back to doing what I was doing. Crisis averted.

A few minutes later, he and a few other friends are playing under the slide, using the same cross bar to hang and do flips on.

I imagine those who oppose this bill will feel the same way.

Actually, if you want to be more precise, you'd call it the "Drier Rule." David Drier, who coined that name you used for the legitimate House rule being discussed, used it at least 35 times in 2005 and 2006 when he was chair of the House Rules Committee.

You really should look up the talking points you repeat.

There will be a vote. If they use "deem and pass" they are basically saying, "we agree to the Senate fixes of this bill." That's it. It is a vote for health care reform and will require a majority in the House. They will be voting on it, no matter how loud the people on the right want to scream that there will be no vote.

                There will be a vote.

And I can go back home knowing I can look voters in the face and tell them I never voted for healthcare". Is that about it?

It's the same bill that opponents having been waving around for months as being "2700 pages." It is the same bill that Republicans piled up on their desks at the summit meeting weeks ago so that it would appear that they were sitting behind a pile of folders and paperwork. This is the same bill that the Senate passed back to the House on Christmas. Nancy Pelosi has made a commitment that no vote will be cast until 72 hours after the CBO report is released so that it can be reviewed and read. It is the same bill that we have been debating for over a year now.

Have there been tweaks and modifications to the original bill? Yes. But, not to the current form of the final Senate bill, which we have had since Christmas... with the addition of eleven pages by the White House.

To argue that we haven't had enough time to know what is in this bill is just bunk. In fact, I am tired of hearing about what is in this bill and ready to see it passed.

The core bill has already GOTTEN an up or down vote by the Senate.

The core bill WILL get an up or down vote by the House when the amendment that contains the revisions as well as the self-executing rule is voted upon. That vote in the House will be a vote for the core bill from the Senate AND the revisions in the amendment.

Then the revisions will get an up or down vote in the Senate.

Just because you're too ignorant to understand that there's going to be sufficient up or down votes to satisfy ANY rules and obligations by Congress doesn't mean we are ignorant too!

So you are basically saying that "We have approved this bill, even though we don't know what it is, what's in it, how much it will cost, we will vote on it later, but happy its going to get passed anyway. And I can go back home knowing I can look voters in the face and tell them I never voted for healthcare". Is that about it?

                    What?

They won't vote on the revisions and the core bill until at least 72 hours after the CBO has scored the bill, and the original Senate bill has been available for a long time - so why would ANYONE be forced to vote for this bill without knowing what's in it? All they have to do now is read the revisions that have just been scored by the CBO to add to the Senate bill that's they've already been able to read.

They DO know the projections on how much it will cost too? How can you possibly think that this ignorant argument will hold water among anyone but the uninformed rightwing who swallow ANY conspiracy theory that makes Dems look bad?

No Congressman will go home and say that they didn't vote for healthcare.

A vote in the House of Representatives will be for BOTH the revisions to the core bill AND the core bill!

It's not going to "pass...without an un/down vote."

You're lying when you write that it is going to do that.

As I've been explaining for over a week, using the self-executing rule, one vote covers TWO THINGS.

And there WILL be a vote. An up or down vote. And the Senate has already voted on the core bill, and they will have to vote to approve the revisions that the House has crafted!

It is ridiculous to claim that there's any plans to "pass" this "without an up or down vote".

Thanks for providing evidence that you're ridiculous, Dave. Of course, any regular poster already knew that.

What is wrong with putting a sixth of the budget in something that would be of good use to the populace?

Because it's NOT as good as it needs to be without the revisions/amendments that are being added to it.

And the fixes CAN'T be done in the normal conference committee process because the Republicans in the Senate are blocking that.

So they have to use an EXISTING rule (not the Slaughter rule at all - that's just an ad hominem attack created by some other rightwinger to smear Dems) to make changes.

Changes, by the way, that increased, significantly, the cost savings from this bill.

The rule is so that the bill WITH its changes gets passed. They make one vote, and both the bill AND the amendments pass.

Actually, Glenn, we're fighting for the 45,000 or so Americans who die every year from lack of coverage. That's the battle. American lives are at stake. The insurance companies are the enemy. You're a bit late to this realization, but aside from mistaking who the good guys and bad guys were, and what the fight was truly about, you did a really pitiful and bad job of it. Hey, that's showing some improvement over your usual tripe at least.

This guy is a prime example of racial hatred. A racist's rhetoric is devoid of logic and common sense.
Glenn Beck is offended that a black man occupies the white house. The very thought consumes this hate merchant. This is why he says ridiculous things. Beck wants this black president out of the oval office so bad that he hopes his constant attacks lead someone to take up arms against this president.
Always remember that racist people speak out of hate, ignorance and stupid. This is exactly what you get with a Glenn Beck.

What do you mean "when all fails whip out the race card"? Obama is still president and he is about to enact his third major piece of legislation.
I speak the truth and I will never reduce race to a game of card. People like you are the reason race relations is as bad as it is. Why? Because you are in denial. The constant, yet, dangerous attacks on this president has a lot to do with his race, whether you want to acknowledge it or not.
