I'm gonna give Beck the benefit of the doubt and say that he was only picking another "Jesus" name.

But given the context of all that's been circulated, that healthcare is reparations, that it's for illegal aliens, that it's for minorities only, I'd think it's not out-of-bounds to suggest that Beck may have been giving a small nudge in that direction.

In my opinion, Mr. Beck was insinuating that the HCR bill was going to benefit illegal aliens from predominantly Latin American countries, also insinuating that people with names that identify their heritage as from Latin American countries are predominantly illegal aliens.

For the thought police - I will not change the way I refer to people who are not legally here. I also think that those who employ them are illegal employers, and potentially guilty of treason.

What, did you miss the whole tirade of unscrupulous actions Becky listed after claiming that it might be Jesus Martinez that would do this, not Jesus from Nazareth? See, when you take two names (after adding a name like "Martinez", which is distinctly non-white) and list a whole bunch of bad stuff after one name and claim that all that bad stuff is something that person would do, and then claim, by the very fact of comparison, that the other Jesus wouldn't do any of that other stuff, you're lacing your speech with racial undertones.

Not surprising from Becky, really, since his bread and butter is preaching to the white class of citizens who, at the very least, have a rather narrow and ignorant world view. Yes, White Jesus would never do any of those bad things, but Mexican Jesus? Well, he'd obviously do all of the things I'm listing.

I'll save you the trouble of replying and just produce your response below:

Nuh-uh! He didn't do anything racist ever! You people don't understand that when he calls somebody a communist fascist racist marxist socialist nazi pinko, he's really just saying that government is too big and controlling. He doesn't mean anything literal with his words, just that he thinks governments are bad when they're controlled by evil progressives.

There, now we all know what your erudite response will be, now that I've explained precisely where the racial overtones of his rant are.

His language was a snide, degrading swipe at Latinos or any nationality (perhaps Filipino) who might have the name Jesus Martinez. It is also rumored in some communities that the health care bill included coverage/treatment for "illegals". When you hear the word "illegal", do you think French, English, Canadian? No, most people automatically think Mexico because that is what Fox preaches. So, if one does not understand the racial overtones in the statement, it is clear they most probably do not understand the meaning or lack therof of many of Beck's statements. He knew what he was saying - ask him.

Actually, in the late 1980s when I was managing a rooming house I met a lot of illegal aliens who were in no way bothered by ICE. They were all Europeans--mostly formerly Soviet Union--who had slipped over the border from Canada.

Northern or Eastern European--no problem. Latino--not so much.

Oh, maybe that the use of two Hispanic names plays upon the fears of those who believe the Health Care Bill will allow all of those undocumented workers to raid the hospitals and suck up all the medical care.

          Which, of course, it doesn't.

So, either it's a lie or it's racist. Take your pick.

Mag, he was't refering to a random Hispanic name, "Jesus Martinez." Glenn Beck got the name wrong, because he was refering to Jose Luis de'Jesus Miranda, who is a man who claims to be Jesus.

          Jesus is pronounced JEE-zus, hay-SOOS.
It is of Hebrew origin, and it's meaning is "the Lord is salvation".

Hispanics frequently use Jesus as a given name, but it's NOT a Hispanic name!

Actually, Jesus alternately loves the poor and ignores them. Keep in mind it's all in the context of the Bible, which is the best selling fantasy book on the market anyhow.

But at various points Jesus actually turns into a socialist, telling his followers to give all their riches away! Go figure. I think that perhaps the religious nutties skip over those parts of the book, the same as they skip over the other parts that say things that are laughably false or hypocritical, or just plain weird. That's if they've bothered to read the damned book at all in the first place, which the vast vast vast majority of them haven't done.

Jesus Martinez, eh? Racist much, Glenn?

But, that to one side, you must have the conservaBible on your desk. Mine says that Jesus of Nazareth healed the sick, and without premium or deductible or consideration for how they might pay. That he even raised the dead, which cannot be covered under even 'Cadillac' insurance plans in the 21st century. That he came to save the sinners, and not the righteous. That he desires mercy and not sacrifice. That he came to minister to the widows, and orphans, and those in prison. You know, everybody you hate, Glenn.

You've chosen sides. You've chosen to side with the Pharisees. Considering that you get paid to lie to Americans to convince them to act against their own best interests, I'd put your price at right around thirty pieces of silver. how hypocritical that you hawk gold, then!

Cat - Thank you for your thoughtful post. You are 100% correct in citing that Beck has chosen the side of the Pharisees. Jesus does not care about politics. I don't know why Beck, who claims to be Christian, does not understand this point. Beck is under a delusion that his political beliefs are inline with God and somehow he will be rewarded in heaven for his politics.

One of the reasons why the Pharisees rejected Jesus is because they thought the Messiah was going to come and side with them politically, and drive out the Roman oppression. Jesus had no interest in the politics of Israel and Rome. Of his many miracles, he healed the sick regardless of their uncleanliness and sinful nature. No insurance was needed.

Actually, if you read the history of Christianity, most Cathloics believed Lutheranism to be a cult...and still do. So for Christians, it's "Christianity is this...and if you don't believe as I do, you're wrong."

One reason I call myself a Spiritual Agnostic.

I agree with Beck. Jesus hates poor people, and would definitely not redistribute the wealth.

If Jesus were president, he would make sure that the poor paid their fair share by instituting the flat tax. And then get those lazy bastards off welfare by forcing them to go get a job. Then he would invest privatize Social Security and make sure those no-good old people figured out how to starting saving their money instead of relying on the government. Then he would make sure everyone knew that government is the problem, not the solution, and that Reagan was a great guy.

And then he would definitely chill on Beck's show and rail against health care supported only by communists who are too lazy to get off their asses and earn it!! And that's the Jesus that I know.
