That's my feeling, too. And he's positioning himself to deny culpability if they do by claiming he doesn't approve of violence and he never shows up for these things. He is a smart cookie, better at washing his hands than Pilot.

What other public figure has had to remind his followers not to be violent so often? Beck knows that his rhetoric is inflammatory and he's just trying give himself cover.

I don't see it that way. He understands that his critics will jump at any opportunity to claim that he's breeding violence, plus there's no evidence to believe that he wants violence. He has always spoke against violent behavior. There's no cover thing going on - if Beck is anything, he's genuine.

epkklk851: And what culpability if something happens? He's not repsponsible for anyone else's actions. A few years ago, would Cindy Sheehan be culpable if some nut went to a anti-war rally, then shot a soldier in the name of peace? Absolutely not!

Beck speaks loud and clearly against violence - where's the evidence otherwise?

I hear a lot of name calling and attempted character assassination, but where are the thoughtful, rational arguments (with facts) that support your case and make for intelligent debate?

He actually is culpable if something happens. He is inciting violence and that is not protected in the Constitution. He always reminds his viewers not to be violent. But does he really mean it?

I was there on Saturday, and I heard about how loud and rude the Teabaggers were being. I saw how angry and menacing the crowd was, too. Glennie uses violent images constantly. He keeps talking about revolutionaries, for pity's sake. Many of the Teabaggers come with references to guns. And, I heard at least one woman give a speech to a Congresswoman that came directly from one of Glennie's unhinged history lectures. Did you know that last Fall, the Teabaggers went into Nancy Pelosi's office and threw stuff on the floor? That they have repeatedly yelled at staffers and any Congress people they get close to? Let's see if someone gives them their "facts" and their motivations by repeatedly pandering to their worse fears, he has some culpability even if he can't be charged with it in court. And Glennie is the last person, and by extension, his audience, who has the right to complain about character assassination and a lack of rational facts. This whole Teabag movement engages in both on a regular basis.

Again, I really don't hear a rational argument through an intelligent, thoughtful process.

I understand the basic name calling - I participate sometimes too, though not when I'm trying to formulate a reasonable case.

I was hoping that you would avoid the names and generalized attacks & categorizing, since that was the premise of my reply to you. Using the terms "Teabaggers" for Tea Party members, and "Glennie" doesn't do much for your argument's credibility.

There's quite a difference between someone using violent images and speech to describe their opposition to violence and it's implications, and someone who promotes the use of violent behavior.

How can you say that the so called violent rhetoric that you speak of is anything more than a small percentage of those involved? As a conservative (and I think I speak for most conservatives), I condemn anything harrassing and insulting, but how about looking at some liberal protests and see what happens there? How about comparing the number of arrests at events, for starters.

"Many of the Teabaggers come with references to guns."

Have you heard of the 2nd amendment and its intent? I think those who reference guns believe in their 2nd amendment right to bear arms, which is, in part, intended to allow citizens to protect themselves agains an overreaching governnment.

How do you come up with the idea that these people are instigating violence or violent attitudes? They are protecting themselves from criminals and an ever-expanding government that seems to continue to inflate and take away our liberty.

                Bring it!

Ya know, Glen Beck doesn't necessarily scare me very much. He's just an airhead that pumps up ratings to insure he keeps his job, probably being paid an obscene amount of money, by playing to all the nut-jobs running around in the world today. What does scare me is that I live in Illinois, and if the clown that stated in another post they had hundreds of followers in mid-Illinois is being truthful, that means I'm surrounded by hundreds of crazy bast#$ds that think Beck is the new messiah. Now that's scary !!!

He looks into the camera with a most pious face and lies through his teeth and then condemns others of lying! What a scum sucker! Imagine, he stood there in mock outrage and umbrage and accuses people of lying for calling him out and then goes on to accuse the President of wanting to kill him! This is disgusting!

I am religious and I was really offended by his use of the Bible this time.

He goes from last week not even knowing Jesus' call to social justice to this week accusing his religious detractors of breaking at least three Commandments.

He does not even understand what the meaning of bearing false witness is... The statement has to be "false" before you are actually committing a sin. What a complete waste of oxygen...

I see it another way - it seems like his mental health is better than most of the rest of us.

He's a huge success, coming from the depths of alcoholism, a failed marriage, broke, and a troubled family life (his mother, brother, etc), and now on top of his game, speaking his heart to whomever will listen I wonder why Oprah doesn't want to share his sad story with the world.

Sounds like quite a triumph to me! I bet his head is a strange place to be, but I'll also bet that he's a pretty happy man - doing what he loves as a job and a passion, a loving family, faith in God, etc, etc.

I watched almost the whole show and twice heard Beck encourage his viewers to get other people to watch his show...to bring Beck's message to those others. He thinks he's a prophet. Are those viewers who try to bring in converts "normal"?

It's not that he thinks he's a prophet. He just knows his audience is seeking a prophet, and he'll do and say whatever he feels he needs to in order to fill that niche for them. Glen knows the score. His cynicism is such that I'm sure it's his intended audience that he despises most, deep in his heart. But they are a more reliable source of income for him. By pretending to eschew social norms, he has carved out a somewhat unique position on the political landscape. But the clock is ticking. His schtick depends on a hermetically sealed environment, and I'm not sure how much longer Fox can protect him from the countervailing forces of the broader world. The political phenomenon that is Obama is badly exposing their cracks. For Glen it boils down to this: anything beats working for a living.

Is this a forum for intelligent debate or just name calling and insults?

Some of you must have actual arguments with some facts to back it up, right?

It just seems that more often the message isn't the focus, instead the messenger. I don't think Beck has too many skeletons that he hasn't revealed about himself, so what you see is what you get. He may not always be right, but he's honest, does his homework and spells it all out very clearly. I wish there was more of that in the leadership of our country.

I recall that our Lord Jesus Christ also said "Render unto Ceaser what is Caesar's." I may be wrong, but I believe the point of that story was that Rome's monetary system was created by Rome and bore the image of Rome's leaders. That sounds very similar to our own currency, doesn't it? I always understood that passage of the Bible to suggest that we should not be overly concerned about gaining wealth in this world and we should realize that we don't really own anything. But an additional (secondary) lesson might be that the money issued by a government belongs to the government first and foremost. We can expect what we earn, but we should also not be surprised if the government uses its power to take part of the currency they issue. I don't really have a problem with that when the main intent is to help others or protect our country. I think we get too worried about this issue. What's more disturbing to me is the judgmental character of these remarks. I also remember a passage that suggests we should not cast the first stone.

Mr. Beck doesn't particularly care for democracy, he's more of a rule by the bullet type guy. Whip a crowd up into a heated frenzy and stand back when something horrible happens and says "Who me?" Mark 12

13Later they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus to catch him in his words. 14They came to him and said, "Teacher, we know you are a man of integrity. You aren't swayed by men, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? 15Should we pay or shouldn't we?"

But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. "Why are you trying to trap me?" he asked. "Bring me a denarius and let me look at it." 16They brought the coin, and he asked them, "Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?"
      "Caesar's," they replied.

17Then Jesus said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's."
And they were amazed at him.

Glenn... seriously, dude, nobody is coming after you... nobody really cares what you think except the retarded faction of the GOP and a few militia/skinhead/survivalists who are counting on an apocalypse as their 401k.

      Please take your medicine.

I find it amusing how Beck detractors and MM never confront the videos and quotes that Beck uses to illustrate his points. One would almost think someone is using Alinsky's Rules for Radicals in dealing with Beck.

What's so funny is when the system does break down and history shows it does break down, the people Beck's detractors ridicule will help each other and their neighbors to weather the storm and rebuild our society from the ruins that progressivism has caused and the people that bought what the progressives are selling will be the ones most hurt.

Oh well, good luck to all of you, hope to see you on the other side.

MMFA has pretty thoroughly "confronted" Beck's lies, and thoroughly debunked them.Nice try, but BECK is the one treating people like fools- and they WILL eventually see him for what he is.

        Actually, I do.

I confront each one of Glenn Beck's lies with factual evidence; however, what confuses a lot of folks is that you can't prove a negative.

For example, how do you prove that Van Jones is no longer a commie? I guess you can read his books, look at his public statements, and so on. But the kind of proof that convinces people like you who are inclined to believe Beck's wild conspiracy theories is elusive. It can't be provided in a sound bite; since your attention span is to short to follow a real argument, it's just going to remain a "fact" for you.

Part of this is perception. You perceive Beck in a different framework than rational people do. There are things about America that mystify you and you desperately need an explanation. Beck provides simplistic explanations to complex problems, which many people find comforting, even though it is based on falsehoods, false equivalencies, false cause/effect relationships, false paradigms, false history, and that's just the outright lies. The racial smears and innuendo, character assassination, phony patriotism, phony tears, and phony religious overtones are stacked on top of his house of false cards.

I know this may be hard for you to read, but if you really want to understand what's happening in US politics and current affairs, you should try to get off of Faux News and start reading some good textbooks. If you are one who believes that Reagan walked on water and Iraq was justified, there are plenty of good books around. Read some Al Franken. Those are easy to read, fully researched and documented, and will give you a good look at the right.

For a good look at the left, read some Ralph Nader. Actually, you don't even have to buy one of Nader's books, there are plenty of his writings online. Here's an excellent link:

        http://www.nader.org/public_interest.html

        Good luck.

I notice you also failed to supply any quotes or substance that would explain or illustrate Beck's points. Now that is amusing.

"What's so funny is when the system does break down and history shows it does break down" - gdy

Well, it is very difficult to refute your evidence from history since you supplied exactly ZERO evidence from any world or national history. I feel sorry for you. I really do.

Yes, they certainly have. Countless seconds of research will show you that Beck has absolutely no understanding of history, political processes, the processes of negotiation and dissent that are supposed to make a democracy work. He's not a pundit, he's an entertainer.

The ruins that progressivism has caused? Like women getting the right to vote? Child labor laws? Minimum wage laws? Unemployment insurance for those who unexpectedly lose their jobs? I'll take those ruins over your conservative state any day, thanks.

Eventually Beck's term on Faux will come to an end.

Maybe it will take years, or maybe sooner. He may quit, or retire, or be fired as being too extreme even for Faux Noise.

But set your clocks for this: when Beck is eventually off the teevee, no matter what the reason, he will find an outlet to tell his followers that "they got to me". And the nutjobs will take that to heart.

      John 6

1After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias.

2And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased.

3And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples.

4And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh.

5When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?

6And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.

7Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little.

8One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him,

9There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?

10And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.

11And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.

12When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.

13Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.

14Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.

Oh yea, I forgot Obama invented taxes... and thats stealing??? What does he think paid for the road he drove to work on, and the police who protect him from getting his insane arse kicked.

Ohhh... Is it me, or is Beck trying harder and harder to become a religious type of idol?? He is just soooo full of himself. I wonder when his cult will go private instead of being brodcasted. I just hope Beck and his followers hurry up and drink the kool-aid and get it over with...

Nope, it's not you. He's really trying that hard to become -- or present himself as -- some sort of prophet, delivering us the "gospel according to crazy." My favorite line may be "I never heard Jesus say..." (or something to that effect). Beck's clearly listening to the voices in his head again.

I can't wait to see Mr. Beck wearing the fashionable tin foil hat and bullet proof vest. Perhaps even start crying live on air as he yanks out one of his teeth saying the government is keeping tabs on him through it. It's always some crazy hippie that talks about how the government is evil so seeing Beck fill that role is really refreshing.

You know, for all Becks compairsons of Obama to Hitler there is somebody else who acts an awful lot like the little mustachioed man.

Hitler came to power by violence and intimidation. He also used directed mass hatred to gain control of the polical will of the country.
He declared all sorts of groups that had a place in German society the Enemy: focuing mostly on Jews but also gypsies, communists, certain types of artists, members of older poltical orders (like aristocrats) who wouldn't adjust their views to fall into line with his priorites.
Hitler utilized manufactured crises to advance his personal power. He also played to a people that felt defeated.

Beck stirrus up hatred and anger in a gruop that feels defeated. He does so by labeling anybody who will not fall in line with his ideas the "enemy" and a "cancer" and all the other names that history/culture uses to express bad guys (communist, nazi, muslim). Nobody is beyond his ability to attack, even pastors/priests who were part of the old conservative order. He converts basic governance by the party he opposes into national crisies that will "End America." His stated goal is to "bring back the feelign of 9/12" Effectively, a permanent state of crisis.

Hitler had a manefesto. Beck hands out copies of the 5000 year leap every chance he can get.

For real, stop and think: If Glenn Beck started saying that "only HE could save America" lots of these people would listen. He already has ready made brownshirts who are willing to disrupt government and be a public menance till they get exactly what they want.

If anyone in America right now is following the "ready made Hitler path to power" there is plenty of evidence to point to Glenn Beck!

I guess what Ole Beck forgot was that the Hebrew nomads wandering through the dessert were living as a communal people, they shared for the common welfare, as did the early Christians. Jesus never said take from all and share it to everyone else, because that's what His church did already. He didn't need to tell them something that should be common sense when living in society, the more people you lift out of poverty the better off you all are.

You know what? Usually I'm really critical of Beck, but I have to agree with this one. Nowhere in the Bible does Jesus advocate giving away all of our earthly belongings to the poor if we want to follow him. Lepers? Maybe if they'd gotten JOBS instead of sitting around picking at their rotting limbs all day, they could have gone to the hospital and gotten treatment - Jesus never sat around and said, "Hey, disease-ridden public, come over here and I'll heal you for free!"

So all you guys need to let Beck have this one, I'm afraid, because Jesus never helped any of the "less fortunate" unless it was to point out the exact location of their bootstraps. Social justice? That was all the JEWS' thing. More like social jewstice haha amirite guyz?

Okay, no, seriously - how many commandments has Beck broken? The rabbit hole just keeps getting deeper and deeper...

Glenn Beck is channeling his inner Tupac. Is he dead? Is he alive? WILL WE EVER KNOW?!

On a more serious note, this type of rhetoric is highly dangerous, and anyone who suggests that a media propagandist such as Glenn doesn't have public influence is crazy. All one needs to do is revert back to 1984 and see how far a well known and (as much as I hate to say it) influential (in his own psychotic way) fringe lunatic's words can be. Of course the majority of it is hate being spewed and spit into our grills like a hip hop artists diamond encrusted teeth.

What people need to understand is, from the words to the hand gestures, to the questions, to the "some say" commentary on Fox News, it's all propaganda, MAN. It's all brain washing tools, carefully crafted to ensure the viewer is listening, loud and clear. Turn off your damn TV's, for crying out loud, they are the illusion, we are reality!

Quite odd we even have to tell each other Beck is nuts. Nuts in a canny fox like way, which is why Fox likes him. He and Oral Roberts would make a great calamity team of conspiracy theorists spouting rhetoric thinly disquised as a "discourse".
