Maybe Obama's audience was being a little too enthusiastic for Fox to bear.

The choice between what Fox and the GOP have called Armageddon and a potential problematic landing of an airplane - and Fox picks the latter? Makes that Armageddon talk sound a little hollow, doesn't it?

They show the entirety of Palin's speech over the weekend when she doesn't even hold public office yet they can't air Obama for a full minute before finding something so irrelevant. And if the plane actually did crash, why would they want everyone to see it? FOX FIRST

And now we're going to cut away from our ongoing coverage of the President's speech because this wall near our studio has just been freshly painted and the CBO estimates it will take 2.3 hours to dry. We'll just have to see how realistic those CBO estimates are.......

On the old DINOSAURS series, they had the 'grass growing channel' in one episode. Very much IMHO like the Golf Channel.

Not sure this is a deal as MMFA makes it out to be.

At the same time, MSNBC was interviewing someone, and temporarily broke away from that interview to cover the plane landing. They weren't even covering the speech from what I heard on the TV.

I think that the news media had been tracking this story, knowing that there was a potential problem, and with live news, sometimes one covers real stories and other times one covers a story that deflates like a balloon.

Don't forget that signing the bill was the end of the US as we know it. And that after the signature this nation is a socialist nation. Fox told me so! I guess the potential problematic landing of an airplane is more important...
(I loved the 'deflates like a balloon' piece, DellDolly. I too remember that story as the perfect example of the failed 'Breaking News' label)

I don't think it is neccesary for every network to cover every Presidential speech or bill signing. CNN, MSNBC, and CNBC were all airing the speech. I don't think every news network needs to cover Obama's speeches.

Did Fox then immediately return to the bill signing? If they didn't, then I'd say it's likely they just used the plane as an excuse to not cover it.

Do we have to see Obama every single day on his Presidency? He's on T.V. every day trying to sell something to the American people. He had a signing, again. He'll have one next week and the week after that. Stop watching FOX if you guys hate it so much. Why don't you watch MSNBC and then they'll have their 100 viewer limit.

I don't see anything wrong with breaking away for this story, a situation they had been monitoring...& we should all be relieved it didn't end in tragedy. However if they didn't return to President Obama once the plane landed safely, then I would question their motives for not doing so. I wish MMFA would have included their actions. Without knowing, I'm not sure anyone here can judge FOX in this instance.

IIRC, the last time they cut away from President Obama's speech it was to let Boner whine about how evil HCR is, after the presdent had just signed it. The conservatives were extremely embarrassed about not stopping HCR. I have a little bit of an ability to "read" people, maybe I learned it by dealing with teenagers in a classrrom for 33 years, but most times I can tell what's under the surface. They can deny it, but I was watching closely, and embarrassment and defeat was oozing from every pore in their body. They really took a beating, and they were in shock. They looked like they had gone 15 rounds with Muhammed Ali when he was in his prime and came out on the losing end. They were really looking forward to the Easter recess. They needed it.

Well, if Fox thought this was such an emergency and they'd been monitoring the situation, why wasn't it mentioned on the chyron? Pirates took another ship, I found out on the chyron, but not that a plane was having trouble in Florida. And, the "reporter" said "if this is the plane that was having problems" - they weren't sure that is was the one with problems - and the flaps were working on this plane when they said it was a flaps problem. Don't ya think they just found one coming it at the perfect time - correct plane or not - and went to the live landing? And yet, armageddon moved on around President Obama....and Fox viewers watched a plan land safely.

I feel so worried about your Country at the moment--I,m from New Zealand.
I am delighted you,ve chosen Obama as your President.
      Great you,ve past Health Care.
But the relationship between Fox News + The Republicans is seriously disturbing-----what I see on the News + by reading newspapers is that the Reps. + Fox are working some Americans into a frenzy into behaviours that don,t look at all democratic.
New Zealand is a little country + I,ve always looked up to America, a big country, where you have stepped in + stood up to bullies on the whole, sure sometimes you had your own interests at heart to be sure but why not.
Yeah , Bush cheated you + you went after WOMD etc. but on the whole , you,ve done damn well.
But , please sort out those Reps. + Fox.
