If you care about your liberties, you should defend the rights of others just as staunchly as you would your own because you would hope the same outcry would rise up if your rights were being violated. Please speak up against the people of arizona FOR the people of arizona:

I propose a trade: Shep Smith (and crew) for the entire cast of Morning Joe including Pat Buchanan. That would complete Fox's "right wing rhetoric collection" and bring some more balls (Dylan Ratigan only counts sometimes) to MSNBC's afternoon lineup.

Shep seems to have a pass at FNC since he was part of the original crew.
He has often said similar remarks whenever he feels like the Fox Narrative has gone to far and MMTV has had a post whenever it happens.

It just stands out because the rest of the FNC team is pushing one narrative and Shep keeps his own perspective.

He also hosts the most popular cable news broadcast in the country, and is one of Fox's biggest moneymakers. They have little sway over him, he's in a good spot, and he anchors a pretty decent news broadcast. (His show is maybe a bit centre-right, but it has more journalistic integrity than about anything on CNN.)

Everyone should read the article by Greg Palast on this issue at Democratic Underground. This issue is not about illegal immigrants. Instead it is about LEGAL Hispanic Americans voting Democratic. This may be a form of voter intimidation to boost NeanderCon chances at the polls this November. If you are Brown and registered you may want to think about who you want to vote for this fall very carefully!

Yes, laws that promote racial profiling and racism do lead to losses in support among minority voters. Rethugs like the governor should have thought about this a little harder before putting ink to paper. This is not a liberal issue or even a democrat issue, this is a civil rights issue. And one must recall that the civil rights movement did not rise solely out of democratic or republican voters but all african americans and many caucasians and other minorities. That is why im surprised more conservatives have not come out in opposition to this bill. I cant stand rubio but im glad he is being moral for once in taking this stand although it will probably hurt him politically, at least he has the sac to say what he feels and know just tout the party line. I would hope other minorities (african americans, jews, muslims, etc) would see the parallels between their historical plights and this law and voice their condemnation for the bill as well.

Nope, he just has too much influence and respect at Fox. I think his show is the top cable news broadcast in the country - astonishing given its time slot - and viewers would probably notice if he was fired for deviating from the public line. I think the propaganda ministers at Fox are powerless to rid themselves of the actual journalist that slipped through.

Of course, with Fox's ratings so high, it's not so surprising that their only newscast, as far as I can tell, would have high ratings too. But I agree, it's not a bad newscast, if you don't mind that horrific theme, and all that candy-ass animation shrieking at you.

Fox's ratings aren't that high . . . they are "high" for a cable opinion network. They used to boast that they had higher ratings than all other cable opinion networks combined, but they don't any more. They serve a niche audience.

      2 quick comments:
      1) Carl Cameron quotes Rubio at 1:10, "This will require aliens to carry their documents."

But that's 180 degress wrong. It REQUIRES US CITIZENS WHO LOOK DIFFERENT to carry their documents to stay out of jail. In short, when Rubio travels to Arizona he damn well better be carrying documents or risk arrest.

      2) About 30 years ago in my old neighborhood of San Francisco during the "troubles" in Northern Ireland we had a lot of Irish overstaying their visas illegally. Often they had committed violent crime back home and were hiding from the Brits. They were unemployed and committed a fair amount of crime - burglary, robbery, car theft, grand theft, etc. If SF had followed Arizona's lead, BJF would have attracted a fair amount of interest.

Believe it or not, but here in my city in Middle GA (home of Erick son of Erick), DWB in some neighborhoods can still get you stopped and detained, and it's been almost 50 years since the Civil Rights Act was passed. This is why I know that there will most likely be some legal residents in AZ that will be stopped and detained.

I have a PhD physicist on our medical device team who has occasion to travel to his home state where DWB in a new car is a common infraction. Of course, he's in a rental car on vacation. This brilliant guy has been pulled over in broad daylight on more than one occasion. Even Neal de Grasse Tyson, the universe-class astrophysicist, has these experiences.

Stuff like that makes it a lot easier to keep my physicist happy here in Silicon Valley!

But wait until FoxNews and Republican Pollsters (i.e. Frank Luntz) come out with the latest poll numbers to show how 70% of Americans "agree" with Arizona's 'racist', un-American Immigration Bill. Polls to the Republican rescue. Wink, wink. LOL.

See, polls are a way to cover Republicans wrong-doings, and the 70% of Americans siding with Republicans will make great tv as Democrats explain why this is. Hee, hee. And, we all know that these FIVE HUNDRED people who were polled represent the American beliefs of over 300 Million people in America, right? Uh, oh. LOL.
