        The amazing thing about Obama is that IF (and that is a HUGE "IF") he had so many bad things happening in his childhood, he obviously has successfully risen above them, is bright, did well in school, went to a high quality Ivy League School and graduated with high marks, then became a lawyer after graduation from a first rate Law School and then got very good marks on his bar exam and became a very successful lawyer in the Chicago area. And now he is the President of the United States! He also married a first class woman who is an equally bright and successful person and a first class lawyer. They have two, bright, competent and empathetic children. Then there is Beck who drank half of his life away, ends up on Fox news, then ends up complaining about the success of a bright, high achieving person like our President! Poor, poor Beck. In Beck’s success, he seems to lack so much in his life even with all his wealth and position. He is truly a pathetic person and his attitude towards the marked success of others and his need to jealously disparage that success shows how totally tragic Beck’s life has become!

      Well, there you go, Beck. If his daddy [who he didn't know] "left him for Marxism" and his mama "left him for Marxism," I'm betting he's going to HATE Marxism. I mean, his parents LEFT HIM. First, that means that they were not a part of his life and Second, it means that they left him for a political ideology. Most kids would HATE the thing that made his parents LEAVE him.

          His father left when he was so young that he would have no memmories of him. So that means that for all intent and purposes he did not know his father.

          Wrong. Obama's father left his mother when he was about 2 years old. He returned to Hawaii for very short visit with Obama [about a month] when Obama was 10 years old in December 1971. He never lived with his father. He never saw him again and said that when he was told his father died when he was 22, he didn't mourn. He didn't know him.

          At the time of his death, my father remained a myth to me, both more and less than a man. He had left Hawaii back in 1963, when I was only two years old, so that as a child I knew him only through the stories that my mother and grandparents told.

          Nice try, mark, but as usual, you fail. Talking points aren't fact.

            Oh yes, how could I forgot, it was his loser mom whom re-married another loser and when off to Indonesia as a boy. Just so many losers to keep up with, hard to remember whom they are in the life of young Obama. FYI, did not read the book.

              You were wrong, Mark. The only "loser" I see on this thread is you. You can't admit you were wrong. Doesn't matter if you read the book or not. It's pretty common knowledge that Obama had virtually NO contact with his father . . . the one that Beck was attacking. Attacking his dead mother is vile.

              But, I'll repeat . . . Beck is attempting to say that Obama is a Marxist because he claims that Obama's late parents LEFT HIM for Marxism. If that were truly the case, then it actually means two things. 1) They weren't around Obama much as a child so they had little influence over him and 2) If they truly left him for Marxism, it would probably stand to reason that Obama would turn away from it, not toward it.

              Faulty logic all the way around.

      If looking into his families background shows why Pres Obama is the man he is today, what is wrong with the subject matter. Second, if Obama does not want us to bring up is daughter and the supposed question she asked him, then do not tell us about the conversations. You all just need to admit, this President is a man that thinks all people are equal, we are created equal what we do with our lives is up to us, not the government.

        Bring up a person's family is okay for the person to do but not for people to do in a mocking matter. The President uses his daughters in his examples because he is showing that even children have these worries. Beck is nothing but insane hate and needs to be fired and put into a rubber room.

        It's not that we can't bring up the conversation but do it in an intelligent grown up manner and not use it as a joke a 7 year old would laugh at. Beck was out of bounds ad you know it. Can't play coy on that one.

          You are so right and if anyone reads Beck's abject apology, they will know that Beck himself admitted he was wrong and out of bounds to muck Obama's daughter. Beck's apology was accompanied by a promise NEVER to do such a thing again! End of discussion!

        Give me a break. This isn't a journalist "looking into Obama's family". This is a harsh, partisan, talk show demagogue with an agenda assassinating peoples' characters.

        Furthermore, you blaming Obama for Beck's childish, immature mockery of children is akin to blaming a woman for being raped because she wore a low-cut dress.

        Just where in the President's comments did he quote his daughter asking this question?

        "Daddy, why do you hate black people?"

        Make all the excuses you want for Beck, but when he said those words he crossed a line going from bad taste to despicable.

        Just mentioning his children gets them mocked? How in the world do you justify Beck and Limbaugh's attack on an 11 yo for asking a question from a child's perspective!The President's point was to show how concerned all types of people were for this environmental disaster.If a child (any color child) asked the president the same question at a public forum would they have been mocked for the question?Certainly not by MSM..Right wing media has already done this before concerning the kid that had lost this mother.Hmmmmmm a couple patterns here!!!

            And the children who sang about the President during Black History month, they were looking to be martyred? Face it, you just had to sink to the occasion like so many pseudo-Cons! Your lot hasn't met a kid that it didn't want to mock or drag across the stage as a shield. I've heard more about the "rumors" about Tregg Palin from pseudo-Cons than I ever heard from Liberals. From what I can see, Liberals are respectful of family values, rather than yelling about how important they are while trouncing them.

          What a truly irrational statement. I mention my kids a lot. The Obama children are great kids. AND, if Obama mentions them a gazillion times, Beck does not have the right to take pot shots at those kids and if he does, he is the stupid one. Beck crossed the line and he abjectly apologized for his disgusting behavior. I take him at his word and thank him for his apology. It was the only grown up and right thing to do. All these excuses for Beck's boorish behavior will not cover the fact that Beck KNEW he did wrong and abjectly apologized. That should end this silly discussion

        First of all Beck, just a couple of weeks ago, said that families should be off limits, but then continues to attack the President's families. If you don't mind anyone mocking the President's children, then there should have been NO outrage from the right when it was done to Palin.

      Glennie, it's good that you recognize that you were once a terrible human being, unfortunately, you haven't changed as much as you think. Maybe you never really bottomed out, because frankly, I see you keep going for low blows. By the way, when I was in high school, I went from the common nickname for my formal name to using the full name. There were lots of other girls with my popular nickname (three of us in my 4th grade room), but very few had the formal name. I like my name and wanted to hear it. It wasn't rebellion, it was trying to sound grown up. He went from being Barry to Barack, he wanted to grow up, too.

          Lots of people do. Elizabeth is a beautiful name, but it just doesn't fit a babe in arms or a toddler or a middle school tomboy, but it sure looks nice on a college diploma or an office door. I don't think Glennie understands because he has a one syllable name, and an old man name at that.
