Of course, the Republitoads have to say this crap, since they just killed unemployment benefits for millions.

Otherwise, those millions, who no doubt include many Republicans, would realize that the Republitoads in Congress are heartless, selfish bastards.

That's why they call it unemployment INSURANCE.

Every working American pays a premium for that insurance, which means every working American is entitled to collect it when they're laid off.

        And incidentally...

I believe Limbaugh does his radio show from Florida, and that state likely wouldn't pay his unemployment insurance claim. He would, after all, be "at fault" for his own termination.

Then again, he could still collect disability since he's clearly gorged himself to the point of utter immobility...

Do we have to recycle these old historical arguments? These arguments were bullcrap 100 years ago and they are still bullcrap. How can unemployment benefits keep people from looking for work? I take it this fatt a** has never seen an unemployment check. If he had, he would know that you cannot feed a family on it, so you must go out and look for work. What a millionaire jackass.

During a period of what is called "full employment", if someone doesn't actually actively look for work, a job might go begging for someone to fill that slot.

During times like this, when there's multiple job applicants for every available position, it doesn't matter for unemployment purposes if Person A is lazy and continues to collect unemployment, and Person B gets the job or if Person A actively searches for work and gets the job and Person B continues to collect unemployment!

This is not rocket science, yet they somehow don't understand it apparently.

A typical specious argument from Rush. Who said extending unemployment benefits have anything to do with creating jobs?

And unemployment being an incentive to not look for work?
Maximum for family of 3 in Iowa - about 400 a week...barely enough to buy food and gas.. certainly not enough to pay a mortage, buy health insurance, pay for education, etc, etc. Let's see how "incentivized" you'd be on that, Rush.

Irrelevant, different industries require different job search techniques. You've thrown in a subjective lure "how hard" and that's subjective. Something might appear hard to one person but isn't to another. If you don't know what's involved you can't possibly assess.

Not to mention, it's a frickin recession, how hard can you look?? Jobs are coming back slowly and it's a fight for people right now. Until some 3rd world outsourced work comes back to the US the employment problem will persist.

No, you have to CLAIM that you're looking for work, and if you're one of the very few claimants who get picked, you have to prove that you're actively searching.

During high usage times like this, unemployment offices don't challenge claims very often and don't ask everyone to prove that they're searching, and in most cases, probably don't do in-depth searches of the evidence that claimants might have to provide.

That is what is so scary about the dittoheads, teabaggers, and their like. They are blinded by their prejudices and ignorance. They also selfishly hold on to their own government help while trying to deny it to others, not realizing they will lose these benefits as well. They are a poor and confused bunch who are being exploited by people like Rush Limbaugh.

Brilliant point as usual Mr. Limbaugh. Glad you have your fingers on the public pulse.

As a person who was unemployed and received two unemployment checks before I was fortunately hired again, I could see the allure of receiving $200 a week when your mortgage is close to $700 and you have student loans and utilities to pay before you can eat.

Try living on $800 a month for a few months and then come back to us with some real perspective. Otherwise, stick with telling us about the wedding where you just shelled out a mil to have Elton John sing.

Has someone that is unemployed after working for over 13 years and looking for work in a state that has 9.8% unemployed; it is hard to find. Many of the places that are hiring around here well not heir someone like me that made 28,000 in a year; not even McDonald's. But I'm one of the lucky one's, since I lost my job right when the economy went to sh!t. those that lost there jobs within the last 6 months are the ones that is getting screwed.

Yeah, I wasn't aware that the "American Dream" was to make huge amounts of money producing absolutely nothing of value to anyone. I thought it was to make an honest living doing what you love to do, while giving back to the society that provided the freedom and support systems (education, financial infrastructure, etc) which made your success possible. I must have been thinking of some other dream.

Rush grew up in an exclusive neighborhood in Missouri, the son of a politically-connected Federal Judge.

Just like George W, Rush's road was paved by daddy and daddy's friends. Any failure simply lead to another well-paying gig, until he finally found something he could get paid for without daddy's assistance.

So no, Rush has no idea what it's like to actually have to compete for a job, struggle for financial security, or suffer. His philosophy is that of the Social Darwinist wealthy who have been handed everything by their parents and can't build up empathy for people who weren't smart enough to be born rich.

Limbaugh is a proto-typical, sadistic conservative in that he hates working people and wants them to suffer for the sins of his country club buddies who f**ked the economy sideways, up the a** in the first place.

He has such a cynical view of his fellow Americans. He probably thinks that if we're not millionaires like him, then we must be lazy and therefore immoral and deserving of our dire straits.

I have no doubt that Limbaugh loathes his audience and considers them dumb as sheep for buying what he's selling. Why should be different from all other successful propagandists? He knows he's spewing crap, of COURSE he has contempt for the suckers who buy in.

I don't even blame Limbaugh for hating America- if I had become enormously successful selling unadulterated garbage to millions of people, I'd become disgusted with the society that supported me, too. I'd come to think of my adoring fans as "useful idiots"- as Lonesome Rhodes said when he thought the mike was off "the public is just a bunch of sheep. I can sell them dog food and make 'em think it's steak. I throw them a fish and they flap their flippers."

Remember that the whole point of Rhodes' show was that he was supposed to LOVE the people because he was ONE OF THEM- and in fact, he started off as a roving bum "discovered" while in jail- but in fact, by the end of the movie he HATED his audience and was plotting to gain for himself enormous power over them by endorsing a neo-fascist for President and becoming "Secretary for National Morale."

And what was he going to do with this power? Well, near the climactic scene, he snarls "I'm gonna start shooting people instead of ducks!"
