Somewhere Lee Atwater is rolling over in his grave. He introduced the nation to Willie Horton during Bush Sr.'s campaign in 1988.

But on his deathbed, he renounced the politics of hatred and regretted his Willie Horton ads.

Except that he never unwrapped the Bible he claimed to be reading every day. Lee Atwater died a terrible death, to be sure, but I am not sure how much of his public repentence was sincere or to get sympathy. It would have been better if he hadn't done the things he did in life, in the first place. In many ways, he reminds me of Beckie.

Of course it would never remind you of Robert Byrd, would it? Of course not.

"It would have been better if he hadn't done the things he did in life, in the first place"

And while you wonder about Atwater's motives for repentence, we know Byrd's repentence was purely for political reasons.

I watched this interview in real time and literally could not believe my eyes and ears. Especially, since it aired during FNC's so-called straight news "fair and balanced" line up. I actually found it necessary to take immediate action and darted off the following email to the anchor:

        Dear Ms. Kelly,

I watched your jaw dropping interview with Kirsten Powers. Having attended J-school and worked in the industry for more than 20 years -- you just blatantly violated every tenet of journalistic objectivity with your rude, blatantly biased and contentious treatment of Ms. Powers.

I suggest you move to the "non-news" commentary primetime line-up since you did not moderate a debate between opposing sides of the issue -- you actively debated one side of the issue and directly insulted your "guest" and colleague.

Ms. Powers -- a Fox contributor -- has never been treated so rudely by any one of the commentators in the prime-time line-up. You may be a good attorney but you are not in any way an objective journalist.

        I'm embarassed for you.

I watched it too and had about the same reaction. Unbelievable how she was calling her a liar and saying she didn't have the facts, when in reality it was Megan Kelly who didn't have the facts. Then she accused Ms. Powers of using a straw man argument when she accused Kelly of trying to trump up hysteria and fear mongering of black people. Fox is pathetic, and Megan kelly, well she's where she belongs.

I would suggest that after your first letter is ignored you should write another letter to the J school you supposedly attended and demand a refund, clearly you did not learn anything. You object to the actions of Kelly who has not only seen the tapes, interviewed the attorney who quit over this issue and also spoke to the eyewitness to the whole episode, she even took the time to read the entire testimony given in the case. She clearly is well versed in all elements of the case. And you support the actions of the Powers who tacitly addmitted she did not even read the testimony given by the eyewitnesses to the intimidation. Any jounalism 101 student would know you should be versed in the subject matter before formulating an opinion. Powers did not even take the time to read the testimony. Clearly she must be auditioning for a position in the Obama administration, that is their trademark. Opinions first, maybe we will read later. Maybe not.

I'm embarassed for you. You should have paid attention in school.

You, Fauxliberal, are a classless hack and a congenital liar. You are a paid employee of Faux News and cannot speak either intelligently or truthfully about journalism, as your employers are not in the news business. You owe everybody on this board an apology for your constant lying... as well as documented... lying, but have repeatedly shown yourself to be utterly lacking in integrity and personal honer. You are in no position to chastise ANYONE here, and are an embarrasment to yourself.

I'm curious though, once again you use quotes , ("knowledgeable", in case you forgot"), but I have looked over my posts and I did not use that word, where did you come up with it? But , yes indeed, Kelly is clearly more knowledgeable than Powers on this issue. By her own admission she did not read the testimony, she just looked at the pictures, it is easier. She is actually just like your other liberal female "journalist" you have recently defended, Mika over at the national Barack channel. When Mika had no answers for Guilani she called daddy's friends at the White House for the reply she should have known but didn't. Similarly when Powers needed some answers she went directly to one of the parties in the dispute, the Obama DOJ , for her answers, and ignored the sworn testimony of eyewitnesses. Great methods you libs employ.

Sorry, Kelly was drawing on hearsay testimony of Adams, who was a political operative during the Bush Administration, the tape, which showed no one being intimidated, the "eyewitness" report of Bartle Bull, a poll watcher for John McCain who had stated how much he DESPISED Obama BEFORE this incident, and selected portions of the transcript, specifically the hearsay testimony of Adams and the tainted and biased "eyewitness" report of Bull. In other words, Kelly was simply parroting the talking points that there is a case where there is not one.

Powers was quite well versed on the case, but was not allowed to speak because she was poking holes in Kelly's scripted comments.

Powers isn't a liberal, fairliberal, she is a Democrat. Two different things. If you read Powers stances on various issues, she is a moderate, like the majority of the people in this country. She wasn't parroting "liberal talking points," she was speaking the truth.

Lord, you are an ignorant twit.

More like a twisted version of the truth. Most of the "facts" are either third hand information or just made up. But by all means lets have some GOP activist testify about something that he admits that he has no first hand knowledge about. He'll say anything to smear and destroy the current DOJ for political reasons. Its like having a Hitler testifying as a character witness over a killer who just happened to be Jewish.

This is very typical pattern for conservatives. Twist the facts around some small story and go ballistic over it for 5 or 6 months until the damage is done. Then walk away from it like it doesn't matter anymore. We've seen it happen before with ACORN, global warming, and now this.

Wow, I did not know that my last comment posted that many times. Sorry folks. My internet must be lagging cause I clicked the 'save' button and nothing happened. My bad.

Kelly sounded like a broken record asking the same question again and again when she was faced with real facts. It was like she was waiting for Ailes to give her the next talking point.

Anytime these Fox types get pushed against the wall with real facts, they always resort to cutting the person's mic or telling the person to leave. Hannity told a guy to leave a couple years ago during the election and Glenda did it during an interview with an ACORN guy. I know that I'm missing more examples but it happens a lot.

Does MMFA have access to the transcripts of the Kelly interview with Adams to check and see if she asked him about the polticalization of the DOJ and the lack of voting rights abuse cases brought about under Bushs DOJ?

I couldn't find any transcripts, but the complete interview is on youtube (sliced into three parts). I watched it twice (try that, I dare ya) and they talk some about the politization of the DOJ (in very general terms) but not once, nowhere, not once did Kelly specifically ask Adams about the lack of voting rights abuses cases brought by the Bush DOJ. Megyn Kelly is therefore lying when she says to Powers that she did.

        Interview Part One

        Interview Part Two

Interview Part Three (plus interview with Bartle Bull)

Predictions regarding how long before Kirsten Powers is dumped by Fox?
I don't feel sorry for Kirsten - she's a Joe Lieberman supporting, evangelical, pro-life so-called Foxnews Democrat, who suddenly, for a few minutes, developed a spine.
I think she'll be gone in 6 months.

the words true and liberal are incompatible. It is still amusing though to hear the stupid remarks about Fox firing or not renewing someone when they disagree. Month after month, year after year. How many times has Shepard Smith and Juan Williams been fired now?

Megan is pushing her Foxy image. Channeling Billo will only get her the Banshee Award. The mike-cutting remark made me laugh out my coffee. Oh, and the favorite Fox axiom- you can disagree as long as your facts are weaker than mine. Megan: I thought you were smart enough to realize bullying outrage never works for us women...we inevitably will be called shrews and harridans...and watching this clip makes me understand a little of why that is.

Good lord. Totally unprofessional, bullying behavior from Kelly.

No one will be allowed to refute the Fox News agenda, which is to use this one, very minor incident for race-baiting and political gain, to portray the Obama administration as favoring blacks--specifically the Black Panthers. It's really, really disgusting.

I commend Powers for keeping her head and her cool.

I am continually surprised at the extent to which pure bias informs so many of you. I frankly do not understand why you would be satisified with bias over facts. Here are the undisputed facts that one can glean from that interview: (and I agree it turned into a cat fight)(1) FOX News has been making a story out of what occurred at this Philadelphia polling place for some time now; (2) other news outlets have ignored it; (3) the government decided not pursue it criminally; (3) Kirsten initially said that it wasn't intimidation; (4) Megyn established that Kirsten hadn't even read the testimony so she could not know what actually occurred; (5) Kirsten thought that the government had "done enough" by getting the injunctions; (6) Kirsten clearly didn't know that the government had severely backed off on the injunctions that they had obtained (going from permannent injunctions in all locations to injunctions through 2012 in Philadelphia only); (7) Kirsten said that she didn't believe the whistle blower because she thought that he was a conservative plant; (8) Kirsten indicated that she was willing to overlook the lack of zealous prosecution because she thought that the Bush administration had done worse by not prosecuting cases of white intimadation of black voters. My question is why was she totally unconcerned about voter intimidation? I think that voting is the most sacred right that we have. Hundreds of thousands have died to protect it. It should be zealously protected at all costs. Whether its Bush, Obama, Zeus or Isis--the law should be applied equally and even-handedly. Here, the administration should have done it differently and more aggressively--it was undisputed voter intimidation. They should not have dropped back on the injunctions that they won. At the same time Bush should have prosecuted cases evenhandedly. Two wrongs can't make a right.

Fantastic I hope that this interveiw goes viral! This should put to rest any notion that Fox "News" is "fair and balanced". When Kirsten did'nt play nice Megan Kelly lost it. The Fox Propaganda machine is shown in all it's full glory. She did not even near Kirsten say that you can see clearly in the background people coming and going in and out of the polling place. There was a White woman on her cell phone right behind our two thugs who was clearly not being interferred with. But Megan is undeterred she wants there to be a scandal no matter what.

Actually if you had any brains you would realize that Powers was clueless because she did not even bother to read the testimony, she apparently feesl that she doesn't need the facts of the case to comment and make up her mind. Just like you folks.

It is interesting, you see the acorn tapes and apparently think it is a vast right wing group of ventriloquists putting words in their mouths, you see a tape of an armed racist group in front of a voting place and deny there is any evidence, BUT when a black congressman makes a charge of spitting and racial commments without any evidence, him you believe. And this after a $100,000 reward was offered to anyone who could provide proof. No proof was presented, I wonder why.

Hi, everyone. I am an avid reader of this site but never really wanted to express my views until now. This forum has inspired me to be proactive in the way "news" is expressed in any medium. I'm pursuing licensure in social studies to teach high school students and I am confident that I will expose yet capture the true essence of history. Here I am rambling on and I just wanted to share the letter I sent to Ms. Kelly about her interview with Kirsten Powers.

      Ms. Kelly:

I consider your interview this afternoon with Kirsten Powers to be very unprofessional and lacked journalistic standards. Once again, you continue to pursue the role of lawyer with your abrasive tactics used in a courtroom. Understandably, you are employed by Fox and I shouldn't expect anything less than your biased rhetoric and regurgitation of Republican talking points; however, your mannerisms were simply disrespectful. I recently read an online article on "The Daily Beast" comparing or introducing you as the Barbara Walters of Fox News. The correlation is quite laughable and unfounded. Your facade as a stellar journalist is apparent behind your "Fair and Balanced" chyron. I guess you and your colleagues rehearse it so much it is truly embedded in the psyche. But tell me, who are you trying to convince?
