I think Beck might be dyslexic, because apparently his Bible is full of references to politics and his Constitution is full of references to Jesus.

Beck also seems to believe (along with apparently many wingnuts) that the President puts his hand on the Constitution and swears to uphold the Bible.

Regarding Gold, Beck would probably counter that Gold was a gift fit for Jesus and that technically "the love of money (from the Greek: argurion - silver)" is the root of all evil (not Gold - chrysos).

Ah, Beck and the caller were discussing Black Liberation Theology, not "liberal ideology". By definition BLT combines Christianity and social justice. It is BLT's belief that the bible is full of references to politics and redistribution of wealth. And while the Constitution contains no mention of God, the declaration of Independence says all rights are given by a "creator", not by government. OTOH God loves us all and except those that poison men's minds and lead then away from faith. "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the door in men's faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to." While BLT is certainly toxic to race relations, it seems presumptuous declare them enemy of god.

One of my favorite scenes in Kingdom of Heaven: the Orlando Bloom character is about to cremate hundreds of bodies, and a Christian Priest protests, insisting on a Christian burial. Bloom replies that he must do it to avoid disease spreading through the city and says "If God doesn't understand that, then He is not God".

If God agrees with Glenn Beck, He is not God.

The way to "read" Beck's discourse is to simply revert certain key value words, whose meanings Beck has inverted, back to their original meanings. For example, when he says "enemy", change it to "friend". Good = evil, etc.

Properly decoded to correct Beck's doublespeak, we have a perfectly coherent and logical discourse.

jdhobbes, I think that if Beck did become more of a religious fanatic and began to talk about mormonism he would lose a big part of his audience. If his christian listeners understood how warped mormon beliefs are, they would quit listening to him in a minute. In all reality, Beck's mormon beliefs are a direct opposite in christian beliefs the majority of the time.

The word also says "Judge not lest ye be judged" and "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone". You have no business stepping into my spirituality, period.

WWJSD (what would Joseph Smith do) - why he would instruct his followers to take multiple wives (Joseph Smith, it was reported had at least 33 wives, 11 of them teenagers and 11 were already married to still living husbands), he would tell them that African Americans are inferior beings who do not deserve to enter Heaven, he would tell you that you could be God. And if you are a Mormon - as you are - you believe in his teachings. You were converted and baptised into this religion as an adult.

      But oh yeah, and

Good point Nerzog. I read up on Mormonism years ago when Glennie first started becoming popular because he kept talking about how Mormonism changed his life. He said he used to be a self-centered greedy egotist who lied constantly and would do anything for fame. But since he became a Mormon he has changed in that----uhh---wait, he hasn't change a bit! But I digress.
Anyway, from what I read about Joseph Smith he was a known liar who was given to telling wild stories before he discovered the "gold tablets." Of course he never let anyone see these supposed gold tablets he found and only he could read them. (They were written in "reformed Egyptian" which scholars say there was no such thing.) Smith believed that Blacks were "cursed" and could not be members of his church. He also believed that the Native Americans were descendants from the original twelve tribes of Israel which science has proven to be totally untrue. (Native Americans came from Asia as every thinking person knows.) The whole Mormon religion is full of bizarre statements. Oh and let's not forget the multiple wives thing. Weird. But I can see why Glennie likes it.

As I recall, Smith had a pair of "magic glasses" that enabled him to read the tablets. I mean, really... what kind of fool believes this nonsense?

If you haven't already read it, I recommend Under the Banner of Heaven. It's a chilling account of a modern, fundamentalist Mormon who hacks his brother's wife and daughter to death because the wife rejects polygamy. All in the name of God, of course.

The book also includes a history of Joseph Smith and the early Mormon Church.

I remember reading about Smith's "magic glasses". Apparently they came with the gold tablets and they translated the "reformed Egyptian" script into modern English for him. (Oops I'm sorry, it was translated into King James English.) Of course no one ever saw the magic glasses either. Smith claimed that there was a flourishing Jewish civilization here during the time of Christ and he (Jesus) came to visit them after he was crucified. Smith also said elephants roamed the land back then. Of course there is not one bit of evidence that ANY of this happened. (You would think you would be able to find SOME structures or monuments of the great Jewish civilization here.)
But no, there is nothing. But that has not stopped Mormons from believing it. Still, I have met some Mormons and they are very nice people. I wonder why they believe such nonsense though.

Don't forget, the Book of Mormon was revealed ONLY to him on gold tablets that he "translated" through a curtain to a scribe, and then the tablets disappeared!

Mormonism is a giant scam. Always was.

That being said, as I've said before, out of all of the Mormons I've known, all of them have been very decent, nice, and great human beings.

I don't count Glenn, because, I don't really know him, per se.

Glen's a hateful, ignorant, paranoid, fool.

Whew, I feel so safe! Glenn declares that we liberals are enemies of God. But at least he isn't specifically saying what anyone should do about it. In fact, maybe Glenn thinks that nothing should be done about it. Yeah, that's the ticket -- Glenn Beck believes we liberals are enemies of God, but I bet Glenn is OK with that! And I bet all of his Christian fans, even the ones with firearms, are OK with that. They're probably thinking, "Those lousy libruls are enemies of my God! I hate all of em! I do own 27 rifles and 13 handguns. But I'm just gonna let God take care of them Evil Libruls." Thank God for the First Amendment, huh?

Yeah I can't imagine anything going wrong just because you have a right-wing idiot saying that a certain segment of the population are "enemies of God." Especially if you have a audience of crazy, gun-toting yahoos who are looking for a fight. Yep I can't imagine anything "bad" happening. >sarcastic mode off<

This ignorant piece of crap. Liberals are enemies of God? How dare he. In my humble opinion, it's people like Beck (and Coulter and Hannity and Limbaugh and Malkin and I could go on and on) who are the enemies of God. When people like the ones mentioned claim to be "christian" and then go on to degrade others, lie continuously, disrepect those who are our leaders (when biblically we should respect those who are in leadership positions) and complain and moan about helping others, it pushes people further and further away from wanting anything to do with God. I don't know how many times my parents have commented on these so called christian conservatives and how hypocrital and down right mean they are to others. Their first comment is something like, "If these people are christians then who wants a part of that.
Liberals are the first to care about others, want to help others so they can better themselves and truly love their fellow man. I'm sick of these disgusting conservatives thinking they they have a monopoly on God. I could go on and on about how downright hypocrital and judgemental these people are.

And to add to that, these people are mormons? ha ha ha ha ha. We'll see one day who is surprised at the pearly gates. I try not to judge others bc it's not my job, but I seriously doubt I will see Beck or this caller in my heaven. Maybe in their heaven with the mormon Jesus but not in mine.

Hyprocritical "Christians" exactly like Glenda and his caller are exactly the reason why I left organized religion. My faith is precious to me and I do not need anyone thumping their version of The Creator's plan to stay on my path.

Shame on your soul Glenn Beck. You have created deep and dark karma with so many because of your greed and ego.

The funny thing is, Beck used to quote Thomas Paine at length. Paine, however, was a Deist, and considered people like Beck blasphemers.

Anyone ever hear or read of any preacher or !nsane person like Beck here say that God's word/will or whatever is not exactly what they're wdesires are?

Like I've never heard of a preacher say "God has spoken to me and...well, to be honest he's not happy with my money making to be honest, and smoking, and drinking, and he's pretty annoyed I cheated on my wife a few years ago, I better go away and think about this for a bit, I'm in a bit of trouble".

It's always "oh how I see the world and how it should be is exactly how God wants it, oh and for you people to give me loads of money".

Beck's next speech, courtesy of Monthy Pythons Life of Brian, (a masterpiece of religious satire)

"There shall in that time be rumors of things going astray, erm, and there shall be a great confusion as to where things really are, and nobody will really know where lieth those little things with the sort of raffia-work base, that has an attachment. At that time, a friend shall lose his friend's hammer, and the young shall not know where lieth the things possessed by their fathers that their fathers put there only just the night before, about eight O'clock."

I wish I had a cartoon that I think I lost about 16 years ago (sob!). It had a preacher in an expensive suit standing behind the Podium, and stating "I have taken a vow of opulence".

Is Him the guy who figures in this:

"The Prophet Joseph received these ancient metal records written in 'reformed Egyptian' from the heavenly messenger Moroni and translated them by 'the gift and power of God' into the Book of Mormon. The sacred writings chronicle God's dealings with his people in the western hemisphere centuries ago."
