The nuttier this guy gets, the more I luv it . .

There aren't enough of these Elmer Gantry fake religious fanatics [i.e. Beck] in this country to get anyone elected to a serious office, as will be revealed in November . .

What fools like Beck do is insult the intelligence of people who are not insane!!!

Hence, any candidate Beck supports will go d-o-w-n . .

Not likely. The people who still believe Beck believe him because he is a figure they see as an "authority." Doesn't matter that what he says is pure BS that not even Beck believes. They HAVE to believe it.

But do you really think there are enough of "them" to win a national election?

IMO, the media highlights "them" because they're NUTZ . .

Did everyone read Palin's "refudiate" tweet??

I bet some-- not all-- of Beck's listeners and viewers are genuinely well-meaning Americans of a conservative orientation, men and women loyal to the Republican and religious standards in which they happen to have been raised. Here in my region of the south, I mingle with them everyday-- I'm referring not to the tragically rabid confederate flag-waving fanatics or the tea-partiers, but the rational people, usually of the older generations, who strive to adhere to the traditional christian principals inherent to their rural upbringings.

They remind me of my grandparents. Decent, human. They may not approve of my sexual orientation, but they'll still welcome me inside their homes if I needed anything. Yes, those folks do exist. And then I think of Beck, attempting to play them like a fiddle.

What other recreational media outlets will these folks frequent besides what FOX news makes available-- they certainly won't find themselves glued to the Current channel's 'Infomania.' How could people like Beck and Limbaugh spew daily torrents of ideological poison at them, convoluted manipulations that they pass off as truths?

Not to mention their efforts to undermine the notion of selflessness by redefining it as something evil, un-American...

I can't wrap my head around how Beck, who probably doesn't place an ounce of faith in a single word he says, can willfully sell his soul and his integrity for even a penny, let alone millions of dollars a year!

And I can't say I know Jesus on any intimate level, but I wish these modern-day Pharisee types had enough respect for Jesus to leave his name and message out of their agendas. It's sheer blasphemy, a new mutated strain of twisted televangelism. If this were the Old Testament era, Beck by now would have earned himself a notable struck-by-lightning death-story warning smack-dab in the middle of Exodus.

Anyway-- thanks for letting me rant.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if his head split open and a UFO popped out.

The only thing he could do at this point that would shock me, would be to tell the gathered masses at his rally to "GET A LIFE," Wiliam Shatner, SNL style, revealing to them that "They're believing the lies of an overdresed rodeo clown! Don't be so gullible folks! You were taking me seriously? What rubes!"

This is EXACTLY what he did when he convinced all those people in Baltimore. It is NOTHING but a promo for his stupid book.

The undisputed high point of Beck's tenure in Baltimore was an elaborate prank built around a nonexistent theme park. The idea was to run a promotional campaign for the fictional grand opening of the world's first air-conditioned underground amusement park, called Magicland. According to Beck and Gray, it was being completed just outside Baltimore. During the build-up, the two created an intricate and convincing radio world of theme-park jingles and promotions, which were rolled out in a slow buildup to the nonexistent park's grand opening. They then went to Kings Island in Cincinnati to record their voices over the sounds of a real theme park. On the day Magicland was supposed to throw open its air-conditioned doors, Beck and Gray took calls from enraged listeners who tried to find the park and failed. Among the disappointed and enraged was a woman who had canceled a no-refund cruise to attend the event.

"They never told a soul what they were doing," says Sean Hall, the B104 newsreader. "I didn't know until the morning it aired. People just drove around in circles on the beltway for hours trying to find the place. And that was exactly what it was supposed to elicit.

Great way to go at things, Glennie, label opposition and criticism of you as being against God, and your fans will be satisfied that they are in the right and anyone who disagrees with you is an enemy. Great way to heal divisions, Glennie. And the lack of details, you can claim you are just trying to keep people like me from derailing your Godly plans, or maybe, just maybe, you're sketchy because you don't have any yet, and plan to make do with whatever you pull out of your bum next month. After all, the fans won't know the difference, will they?

Beck is sowing more seeds of fear. He's claimed that the administration is against the constitution, wants to round up everyones guns and now threatens their God.

He is a lunatic. He is dangerous. And most of all, he is very effective. The madness is spreading and if it's not stopped, something dreadful is on our horizon.

It's not about partisanship, it's about authoritarianism . . . his followers will NOT call it out. If he says it, it's true. It's like the people who continue to believe that WMDs were found in Iraq, that there Iraqis flying the planes into the buildings on 9/11 and that Iraq posed a HUGE threat to the United States' security. Mountains of evidence to the contrary have been produced, but there is still a core of about 20-25% of this country's population who will NEVER be convinced that those things were not true. Those folks are Beck's fans. They think it's because they are conservative, but it has nothing to do with political ideology.

They think it's because they are conservative, but it has nothing to do with political ideology.

Good points, and I agree entirely with almost all of what you're saying.

But I take issue with your last statement. Authoritarianism is not really a charectaristic of modern American Liberalism. In modern America (notice how I'm not speaking about the rest of the world, or for all of history) Authoritarianism is an inherently Right-Wing, Conservative phenomenon.

The Left's tolerance for disagreement is imfamous - to the point where the disorganiztaion and disunity or the Democrats is a common joke, well accepted as fact. And I for one don't deny it! But it's certainly evidence AGAINST the presence of Authoritarianism in the Democrats.

The Republicans OTOH? Whether you consider their consistent lockstep voting unity or their inability to ever disagree with Rush Limbaugh w/o apologizing for it later or their intolerance of minority groups, etc, etc... Authoritarianism is essential to their political ideology. It doesn't HAVE to be, but that doesn't change the fact that it IS.

I think it's more about plain old IGNORANCE: they just don't SEE the Authoritarianism they're embracing in the name of "freedom," "liberty," and "patriotism." And they're just as blind as to what THOSE WORDS really mean as well, and to the inherent contradiction of doing this.

You are talking about political ideology . . . that's not what authoritarianism is. It has nothing to do with political ideology, it has to do with a person's psychological make-up. While the authoritarian follower may CLAIM to be conservative, they usually don't really have conservative beliefs. They don't really have ANY beliefs of their own. They believe whatever they are told to believe by people they see as authoritative.

That's what I keep saying . . . these people are NOT conservatives.

              So... They're just sheep?

              OK, I'll buy that.

I still say that authoritarianism is almost entirely the property of the Right in this country, even if it is just a means to control the sheep. The sheep may not be conservatives, but the authoritarians they're following - and voting for - ARE.

Glenn: "My god is not like that."

Glenn: "My god is about freedom."
Me: "Freedom in what way, the old Testament way?"
      Glenn: "Yes."
Me: "So you are saying that if a person is working on a Sunday he/she should be stoned to death?"
Glenn: "It does not say that, and how would you know; you don't even believe in god."
Me: "Read this." *show chapter and verse*
Glenn: "But that is the Old Testament, we live in the New Testament."

I just want to see Beck taken down in a more pedestrian way...such as his wife accusing him of having sex with the family Collie. ;>)

All parties have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

To equate God with a party, a man conceived ideology, is to trivialize the sovereignty of God, or in other words, to take God's name if vain.

"Get behind me, (sic Glenn)Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men."

He's going to unveil some new secret formula that when administered produces "Glenn's Glorious Goosebumps" and can be bought for $9.95, two for $19.90.

I'm with you on the Osama Bin Laden comparison. In fact, anybody who claims someone or something is an "enemy of God" can pretty much always be marked as a crazy person, and potentially an evil one.

I love Glenn Beck! He is pushing the envelope to sar out there now that even rabid cons like my Dad are stepping off of the Beck crazy train. This kind of paranoia and conspiracy riddled insanity won't play to the majority of Americans. Beck is exposing the Conservative movement for what it is...

Well, Beck's audience is nowhere near a majority of Americans. If you give him a nightly audience of 2 million, that's still only 1/150th (.667 of one percent) of the American people (Rounding off to 300 million eligible listeners, not counting very small children).

when trying to follow any particular thought in the ever-shifting sands of Glenn's meandering illogic it's helpful to remember the Heisenberg uncertainty principle in quantum mechanics.

I've found it!! While watching one of the sets of Monty Python's Flying Circus DVDs, there was one 'extra' on Pythonisms... and this just seemed ideal: Thripshaw's Disease- causes involuntary speech with words out of order, or replaced.

Is Beck going to start his own religion? What would it be based on? The Bible? The Book of Mormon? Does he have a new book for us? Will it be Father Glenn or Pastor Beck, no wait I have it, Your Supreme Holiness!

I'd laugh if I didn't think he was capable of doing it and what is far worse, that there many would follow him.

This guy is a danger to himself and everyone else.

Funny I am a Bible reading and fearing Christian and see these policies as being what Jesus called for us to do. The rich will not get into heaven easily a camel will get through the eye of a needle easier. Greed is a sin and the right forgets that.
