Look out Shep for an axe wielding Australian!

Smith is in for some resentful stares in the lunchroom at FOX today. How dare he tell the truth about one of Hannity's favorite purveyors of propaganda - Breitbart!

Oh Shep, you make it seem so obvious. I am disgusted at how the NAACP and this administration acted. There was absolutely no reason why they couldn't have taken the time to do a small investigation, uncover the unedited video and then make a decision instead of taking Breitbart's and Fox's word at face value. I'm so angry I sometimes shake all over at just how gutless this administration is to ever stand up to the right-wing noise machine. Oh noes, she's gonna be on Glenn Beck tonight?! And this means what to rational, logical Americans who live in reality?

And a quick P.S. The White House is issuing an apology to Sherrod, and I hope she finds some solace in that, but I want more. I want a promise from them that they will never act so rash again and throw one of their own under the bus because of Andrew Breitbart. They should KNOW by now that he only deals in lies and deceit, and they just keep on falling for it. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me thrice...well you have no hope.

The White House didn't act rashly . . . Vilsack did. The White House found out about the incident after it was already a done deal.

You've got that right. Breitbart simply did what Breitbart does. That's not a big deal. Even the edited video clearly indicates that Sherrod's speech was made in a context different from what Breitbart claimed. For anyone to ask for Sherrod to resign without an honest attempt to put her words in context is inexcusable. That is where the real scandal is. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack should step down over this. If anyone above him pressured him to fire Sherrod, they should leave too.

You can bet there will be a full White House review of the events that transpired yesterday. Once everybody calms down, Fox News will be the biggest loser in this story. Any credibility Fox had with the White House or other legitimate news departments at CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN or MSNBC has been ruined.

There has been the expectation that Fox News would play fair and act responsibly when reporting a major news story, following the tradition of trust established between the working press and the White House. That trust has been compromised. Fox sucker-punched the White House with this story but will never be able to do it again.

P.S. Agree that Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack should step down over this.

Unfortunately, I think we'd be naive to actually believe that. Breitbart, maybe... If he keeps pushing all of these blatantly false non-stories than Fox will stop having him on because he makes bad television, maybe.
Fox will be fine, this causes them to lose absolutely no credibility with their base.

A "widely discredited website" that is frequently used as a source by a "widely discredited cable network"

This is an example of something that the President referred to in a speech a few months back, where he mentioned something about the ubiquitous 24/7 cable news industry and their effect on discourse in the media, if not on the greater public forum.

And I believed at that time that he did not express his thoughts very well on that matter, or his reference was incomplete or unexplained or all of the above... and what I believed he meant to say, and what I believe to be the truth myself, is that people stare idiotically at cable television news shows night and day, and they react neurotically and even hysterically to the things they see and hear, despite the fact that the source of what it is that is influencing and manipulating their eyes and ears and hearts and minds, is just two or three privately owned and controlled corporations, and that they may have a political objective of their own, beneath the surface and within the substance of everything they say and show and broadcast.

Anyway, that's what I thought he meant when he referenced the matter in a speech, and even if that's not what he meant it's what I believe and know to to be true.

But this is also an example of the administration reacting neurotically even hysterically to being influenced and manipulated by cable television news shows, which makes me think again that either the President's own people didn't understand what he referred to when he spoke about the matter a few months back, or else they understood but just can't help themselves, they're too plugged in to the influence and manipulation of a narrowly owned and controlled cable television news show media, too plugged in to that medium to even check themselves in their own reactions to it.

This is also an example of the influence and manipulation of those cable shows, obviously.

And that right there should be smack dead at the center of all your thoughts and talk of this matter... that's what I think, I think you're continuing in your neurosis and hysteria if you continue to think and talk about Shirley Sherrod, it's not about her, it's all about Fox news television (they are the true and only source of the edited video for millions of Americans) and also about this brietbart character, who seems to be their (Fox's) source for the video, and the trail ends there, there's no need for us to keep tracking back for any other source, that was Fox's and breitbart's job, not ours.

Lastly, the above video clip is an example of Fox television news distracting you and blaming others.

This clip has a Fox employee trying to cast this thing as the administration's 'obsession' with glenn beck, and trying to distract you from their (Fox's) complicity... I know, he mentioned his own network's involvement in all of this, but it was in a hushed and subdued way, because again I believe that Fox news television is the focus here, them and their relationship with this bretalbart character, and you don't refer to the focus in a hushed and subdued manner, nor do you distract from it by referring to the administration's supposed 'obsession' with glenn beck.

That's all I want to say for now on this, if any of it was worth anything to you, it would have to be what I observed at the top, about cable television news' show's influence and manipulations of Americans, maybe you included... if so then you may return to your neurotic and even hysterical reaction to all of this, I'm sorry if I drew you away from the offending medium for even these few minutes.

That is absolutely true, it is having a great and political effect on Americans, this televised noise is.

And you mention the generations, true again, while this type of media influence and manipulation is nothing new, it is at a high and malicious point, and Americans are now more than ever under it's influence.

As an aside, I am of an ever-greying generation, and so I know firsthand of where I speak, when I speak of past generations... as a further aside, I spend not one minute of my day or night staring idiotically at cable television news shows, and so it is with a sense of pride (perhaps false) that I think myself above the neurosis and hysteria that is just naturally induced from staring at cable television news shows.

Turn the danged thing off, and solve the problem forever.

Didn't our elders from a previous generation tell us that it will ruin our eyes?

They were right, it will ruin your eyes and your mind both... turn it off, and if you must monitor it's noise, then monitor it in places like this one, where it comes to you best in transcription, often with insightful and timely commentary, and of course without commercial interruption.

Amen, and amen. I too come from a time of daily papers, weekly magazines and news that allows time for thought. Today's wall-to-wall nattering is too much for my old and abused brain.

I suggest folk limit the time spent on news or "news". Stay informed without being indoctrinated. Talk with your friends and folk you respect instead. Works for me.

it's because people like Hannity and Beck have an entire station that backs their nonsense up. despite what conservatives would have you believe, MSNBC does NOT act in the same way that Fox News does, meaning it doesn't breathlessly promote every little thing their 'opinion' hosts come up with, even when those opinions are based in fact.

I guess people are watching Fox News, and O'Reilly is right about one thing, the media is loosing it, and NOT reporting and researching facts/news just jumping to the "smear" without checking. I'm glad I watch/read a lot of different reports, before I decide what is true.

      Shep Smith is LYING.

The NAACP states implicitly that they did not have the "edited" version of the tape. It was not until they obtained the ENTIRE tape, that they realized an injustice had been done.

Shep Smith is ACTUALLY BLAIMING the White House and the NAACP, if one listens to what he is REALLY saying,

But of course, FOX now has to distance themselves from this fiasco.

Shep Smith is a lackey, a supposed "principled gentleman, who doesn't hesitate to voice his "opinion,."

While at the same time he continues to take his "30 (or is it 40) pieces of silver."

Smith is a snake along with the rest of the FOX "cast."

The news media hasn't even went after Briebart and FOX hard enough. Everyone is to blame for overreacting to this situation. I'm all about common sense but the media is just covering up for Fox News.

I used to work at a far right radio station Klif-am here in dallas and then worked for Salem Radio Network. You guessed it I was the only liberal and wasn't scared of this people. The real issue here is about breaking up President Obama coalition before Novemeber.

Fox News has a Black Person Hit List and here is the list but just my opinion. I know how this guys act and how they respond before they do it.

      1. Van Jones-Done
      2. ACORN-Done
      3. NAACP-Tried but failed and Mrs.Sherrod was a innocent
      bystander
      4. New Black Panther Party-Failed
      5. Eric Holder-I'm telling you now he is next in line
      6. Valerie Jarrett
      7. Melody Barnes

Again let's see if I'm corrected. The Moderate Republican voters I believe will come to the rescue of Democrats this fall. I think we will witness a total Democratic Gov't that is going to be able to get things done faster.

In my heart I believe American voters will reject this type of hate come this fall. Epsiodes like this makes you wanna vote for sanity.

My guess is that in end the mid-terms won't be bad as the Democrats and not as good for the Republicans as a lot of the talking heads think.

Let's not be so quick to praise Shep Smith. He calls Breitbart's site "widely discredited", but did he tell his audience that prior to this story? He covered the ACORN non-story, did he not? And did he ever follow up when the ACORN lies were thoroughly debunked? I'm not aware that he had, although he certainly should have.
