I saw this earlier today. I was thrilled that Mr. Dionne was so forthright and forceful. Santelli or whatever his name is, was really quiet, which was a good thing, because when he talked it was like finding a terd (sic) in a swimming pool. I applaud E.J., the other guy, I would have liked to have popped him with a rolled up newspaper.

Excellent, Mr. Dionne. Will you now take this message to the Washington Post?

Absolutely. I'm sure a majority of Americans are tired of the media being manipulated by a bunch of agenda-driven bigots like Breitbart, Drudge, and the entire FNC (K)clan.

Dionne's right in calling out the main stream media for their fears. Maybe they'll learn their lesson. In my observation of Pres. Obama, this won't happen again. I just wish he'd kick FOX "news" men and women out of the briefing room. Again, he doesn't have TMZ in there and FOX is no better at "news" than they are.

Actually, TMZ is a much better outfit than FOX.

TMZ has real and reliable sources. They're far more accurate than FOX. The have real scoops (not the phony kind FOX makes up in house). And when they get something wrong, they're the first to correct a story.

To paraphrase Dionne: Looking at the facts isn't liberalism, it's journalism. Sad that the MSM has had a run of about 9 years in which the facts have been overshadowed by fear of being labeled a traitor or un-American.

Dig up video of the rare reporter challenging the Bush administrations insistence that Iraq was armed to the teeth with WMD and you'll find the poor saps jeered as bad as a person who stepped outside to challenge the color of the sky. Conventional wisdom cannot be allowed to eclipse journalistic insight.

Everyone, with few exceptions, was cowed by authority cloaked in a mantle of false information. Imagine Woodward and Bernstein just shrugging OK when they were told the Nixon administration had no role in the Watergate break-in.

That's basically what the MSM did in the build up to the Iraq War. Lots of capitulation, zero investigation.

David Brooks also talked about the current state of journalism. He said he was taught this "If your mother says she loves you, check your sources." We need a press that is willing to investigate and print facts. This "gotcha" "stalkerazzi" "infotainment" crap that is being foisted is a disservice to the entire nation!

Yeah, but Brooks was also pushing that whole "both sides do it" line, which is only partly true: It's possible to find left-wing smearers, but you have to really look for them. By contrast, these days it's hard to find anyone on the right who DOESN'T smear!

Exactly. This "both sides do it" crap is a meaningless talking point, intended to mollify the "Liberal Media Bias" phobia that has been manufactured by the Right. There is no FOX/Hate Radio equivalent on the Left... that is simply a fact.

Certainly, there are individuals on the Left who play fast and loose with the facts, but there IS NOT an entire major Network dedicated to disseminating Democratic propaganda, and Liberal presence in Talk Radio is practically nil.

True. I was surprised when Brooks said he was jogging on the Mall during the 9/12 rally. He's one conservative I would like to talk to. In some ways, he reminds me of my husband.

I would submit that it takes serious balls to be a truly effective citizen in any country, and by "truly effective citizen" I mean one with a serious interest in what will benefit your country, rather than what will make the elites (whoever they may be) happy.

Way to go Mr. Dionne, but I would also have to throw in the "False Equivalencies" that the MSM is also known for. For every reputable scientist in the news they have to add the Global Warming denier, or Intelligent Design promoter, or in the case of religion, focusing on the extremes: it is always a smackdown between the right wing Fundies and the radical Islamists. I would also like hear in one of the stories of the Bush tax cuts some facts about whether or not tax cuts for the rich actually work, instead of getting a Democrat and a Republican to butt heads.

      Here's the problem:

The medias job is not to cater to our narrative on how the nation is or should be. It is to inform us on what we need to know to increase our civic mobility and strengthen our republic.

The problem with "conservatives" (i.e reactionaries) is that any info that interferes with the talk radio paradigm that has permeated the echo chamber that is the "conservative movement" is considered: un-american, liberal, propaganda, bias, etc. So nothing gets done in this country, because we have this silly argument about whether our media is bias. As opposed to is our media telling us what we need to know in order to be informed.

Now onto Breitbart, this is where reactionaries make me sick. This man has been so utterly discredited by rational (i.e sane) people in our society. And for our media to feel bogarted by such lunatics in the first place tells us how powerful the right wing noise machine truly is. For those of us who wish to know what is going on in our world, we need to challenge these goebbels-esque liars and shut them out once and for all.

And this is not an attack on free speech. Free speech doesn't allow libel and slander. If these extreme folks on the right aren't rightly challenged on their BS, then our timid (and mostly complicit) media will always let the Breitbarts of the world have their way. It's time something gets done.

FSTV and LinkTv try their hardest but don't resort to ad hominem attacks that the "mainstream" media does. The media is turning into nothing but a rumor mill.

White media is more concerned with "evidence" of a made up "intimidation voters" story and "racial double standards" than they are about the lying hypocrite who submitted a doctored video tape to Fox News.
The focus should be on the man who DECEIVED the public (with the tape) and Fox News for using the tape in a MISLEADING attempt to create a breaking News "story".
Wake up America, all of this racial politics coming from conservative media is aimed at bringing down the Obama administration, PURE AND SIMPLE.
Despite Fox News' culparbility in the racist scheme that back-fired on them, it will NOT DETER them from doing it again and again. MARK MY WORDS....
      These people are EVIL...
