Isn't that what she meant?
When did they start throwing W under the bus? As in, everything that they think Obama does bad (which is, well, everything), they compare it to how bad Bush was.
The moment he left office. Remember, Mag: it's not OK to denigrate Bush while he's IN office, because that undermines the troops and is considered treason.
The moment he's out and the black guy gets in, well -- that's a whole different story . . .
I hadn't called in to a right wing talk show in years, I used to but found it pretty pointless, and most of the calls ended with the host hanging up on me and telling his audience that I hung up.
But for some reason I called one of the wingnuts today towards the end of my lunch break, just because I was bored and wanted to have some fun with his "unprecedented expansion of government" theme.
As the host was trying to get me to name an area where Obama was cutting spending, I said it wasn't really relevant, and I mentioned (matter-of-factly, I thought) that we were at the tail end of three decades of Reaganomics, and a Republican nit-picking the guy cleaning up was pretty silly.
I got some very forced laughter, and a "You wanna bring up Reagan ?", as he muted me and went on to argue with something I didn't say. History started in January 2009 for all of these eejits.
Maybe I'll call another one in a few years. :)
Therefore, my opinion counts exactly as much as hers. I say George Bush stands alone as the greatest one-man wrecking ball of the U.S. economy EVER! And I have history on my side.
If you made a list of things to NOT do in terms of economics, Bush and Company treated it like checklist of items to mark off as they accomplished them: cut taxes for rich people, which reduced government revenues; cut spending on things that benefit the poor and middle class, which stagnated the economy; increased spending by waging unnecessary, perpetual wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which further slowed the economy by diverting funds that could have been used for domestic programs; deregulated industry, which led to expensive bailouts and environmental cleanups for which the taxpayers will get the bill.
Bush INTENDED to enrich his supporters at the top of the economic scale at the expense of the vast majority of us, including the working poor.
He INTENDED to reduce the middle class, further enriching his wealthy cronies by increasing profits through reducing wages.
He INTENDED to enrich his rich friends by waging perpetual war, putting money in the pockets of corporate executives who get contracts to provide substandard goods and services to members of our military in a time of war.
He INTENDED to further enrich his friends through "homeland security" programs -- more contracts for the well connected to provide airport screening, background checks and other bogus products and services.
Honestly, what more could Bush have possibly done? Name something to NOT do in terms of successfully running an economy and he did it with relish.
I'm convinced that no one could have outdone him.
There, fixed it.
