Expressing outrage over the president not attending a Boy Scout jamboree is easy when you've already embarrassed yourself with the claim that there were no terrorist attacks after 9/11 in GWB's Administration.

        Actually Perino stated
"But, you know, we did not have a terrorist attack on our country during President Bush's term.".....

        she didn't even exclude 9/11

For every "good ol' American" activity, let's criticize Obama for not doing it. I think the state fair pie eating contest is next. Socialist Kenyan can't get his face plastered with blueberries like BushieCo.

Well it seems as if the Scouts are really upset about this:
“Due to his schedule, President Obama will not be able to attend the 2010 National Scout Jamboree,” the statement reads. “In February, the President sent a letter honoring the BSA’s 100th Anniversary and his signature appears on Eagle Scout cards.”

“Also, he has welcomed Boy Scouts contingents in the Oval Office twice since taking office,” the statement reads. “President Obama serves as the Honorary President of the BSA, as has every President since Howard Taft. While each President is traditionally invited to attend the Jamboree, not every President has been able to attend the event.”

“We thank the President for his effort to recognize Scouting and look forward to working with his administration as we work toward accomplishing our mission of preparing young people to become exceptional adults,” the statement concludes.

The pertinent question, according to Wonkette's blog:

Why does Obama continue to disrespect our brave children in uniform?

I don't have any issue with the Prez not going to the Jamboree, nor do I have an issue with him going someplace else on the same day that he could have gone to the Jamboree...

But I don't think that we (or the Boy Scouts) should compare an absent President to just any old Jamboree to a President missing the 100th anniversary Jamboree. I think that's a bigger deal than just any Jamboree. Just like we expect a President to go to Normandy on special anniversaries of D-Day, but not every anniversary of D-Day, I think that this anniversary for the Boy Scouts shouldn't be compared to Presidents who have missed previous events.

But it's still not a big deal.

If Obama went to the Jamboree (I went myself in 1985 and Reagan must have "snubbed" us as well - no presidential speech and no fake outrage either) and spoke in front of that crowd of uniformed boys, the Hitler Youth analogies and photos would be ENDLESS. Believe it or not, this Fox News whining is the lesser of two evils IMO.

You're right! I forgot how lathered up everybody got when Obama was "indoctrinating" school kids by talking to them directly. It's obvious that Obama can't win with this crowd.

This leads me to the larger point. When constantly faced with a "can't win" situation, why doesn't Obama just do what he thinks is best, instead of trying to placate the Republicans? The Republicans only view compromise as weakness. They take any concessions but give nothing in return. Republicans already hate his politics. What does Obama fear? They hate him in all caps?

Exactly. When he doesn't appear before some group, he is "disrespecting" them. When he does, he is either "indoctrinating" or "pandering to" them. It is a regular and predictable as clockwork, political commentary by the numbers with canned criticisms.

It's probably mostly driven by the fact that these well-paid clowns are going to see their taxes go up at the end of this year, which makes them squeal like stuck pigs.
