The subprime crisis was but one result of 30 years of trickle-down, regulation-rollback, credit-gone-wild leadership policies.

      Regea-Clinto-Bush-a-nomics.

I think we would have heard more from Phil Gramm lately if those policies were worth defending.

Pete, I called in to one of the righty radio shows yesterday (if you're thinking "why would he do that?", I guess to remind myself why I hadn't bothered in years), and I mentioned, in response to the hosts "unprecedented government expansion" rant, that we were at the tail-end of 30 years of Reaganomics, and in some pretty unusual circumstances.

I got some fake laughter, and a "You want to bring up Reagan?". They're really working hard to create a world that began in January 2009.

Then today, I caught the end on a conversation on Limbaugh's show, a caller named Joe who sounded very frightened and persecuted for being an "anglo", to the point that he was ready to secede if Alaska or Texas would give him a safe haven.

Blimpy started to drone on about how things had been happening for 20 or 30 years, and for a moment, I thought he was going to acknowledge some of the Republican policies that got us here.

I know, pretty naive of me. He was talking about whitey-hating librul teachers taking over the schools. He tried to talk Joe down a little, but Joe was really at wit's end. Poor Joe.

      Look Rush:

As an unabashed lefty, I truly am flattered that you think my ilk can create so much damage. That you think we really have so much influence in society. Whenever I'm feeling down and out about how little power the left has in society, I think of you. You make me believe that I'm truly powerful. That I have the ability to influence the government and the private sector. And that I can be more nefarious than I truly am.

But the reality is, we lefties have very little power. Every single victory we've won is threatened to be rolled back. Our institutes and think tanks aren't that powerful and well funded. And George Soros doesn't seem to give a damn about us.

However, I still need you Rush. I need you to tell me that I am powerful, and inflential. And that I wield a sword so progressive that Rosa Parks could be lifted from her grave. You inspire me Rush, to be all the evil I can be.
