This is classic Rovian politics: attack your opponent's strongest suit, and co-opt it for yourself. I just don't see it working here, however.

Sure, Tom Vilsack's response to the Shirley Sharrod "situation" was stupid and awful, but it was Breitbart and Fox who lit the racist fuse.

I am as much inclined as anyone else to consider the American electorate unthinking, irrational, easily fooled and inclined to believe nonsense.

But i simply won't believe, until clearly shown, that the majority of American people are going to simply watch FOX and accept its word as reliable. I simply won't believe that most Americans will fail to encounter the truth, or something like it, somewhere in their daily round.

Even those of us who grew up with 3 tv networks - none of which was on all day - cannot possibly be getting all our news, or "news" from one source only.

The entire "racial" argument chez FOX is a bastion of falsehood in a sea of reluctantly admitted truth: that the President is not only non-racist, but the other side is pushing that head. He is so un-racist, he still lets people get away with unconscionable crap, and errs on the side of rw aggression.

The FOX argument depends entirely on people looking at nothing but FOX, and/or always giving FOX the benefit of the doubt. And i just can't - won't - believe that most Americans do that.

There is a relatively small but politically active group(they do vote consistantly) who only tune into right wing media because they have their worldview validated on a daily basis. They are told that all the problems of the world are caused by the "other" opposing ideology that wants to take their guns, take their money and give it to lazy minorities, take their freedoms, and are still trying to turn America into some kind of fascist/communist/Atheist/Kenyan state or something equally nefarious.

It becomes a constant call to action. Using racial tensions and race baiting as Hannity is demonstrated doing here to appeal to the misgivings and fears of their viewers is one such measure they resort to in order to trick their viewers into supporting the political machine they actively advocate for.

I wouldn't say small. If my experience this past week was any indication. Was in ground school for a new airplane with about 10 other pilots and almost the whole lot of em were conserves that loved Coulter, Beck, ect. One even railed that unions should not exist, while being a memeber mind you. This nonsense is widespread. I hope you're right.

You're on to something. Fox does not have a large audience when compared to the networks but there are enough viewers to throw an election to the Republicans. I believe that many voters don't understand the issues and although they may not watch Fox, they're easily influenced.

They afraid of the future and hear friends and neighbors comment on things like the poor being to blame for all of our problems and to them it makes sense. In hard times, people need their scapegoats. The wealthy by way of Fox and talk radio, have convinced the working class that it's those other workers and the poor who are the cause of everyone's financial difficulties.

I was the president of my local when Reagan fired the ATCs. My people thought he was great to stand up to these guys who made too much money. The controllers made less than the people I represented. It didn't matter. They need someone to blame.

Since the industrial revolution, the owners of industry have pitted one race, nationality or classification of worker against the others. If they're arguing among themselves, they can't be focusing on management.

Like the sheep that we are, we've always gladly ran to the slaughterhouse, fighting each other along the way.

I think you got a hold of the RNC playbook. This is exactly what their plan of action has been and continues to be. Divide and conquer. Play Americans against each other in order to gain power. Blame the middle class, the unions, minorities, women, gays, environmentalists, abortion providers, atheist, Muslims, the poor - for bringing America down while they hold their hand out the back door waiting to receive money and kickbacks from the wealthy who are doing enormous damage to the economy with a wink and a smile from the Republicans (and some Dems have been in on this as well, mind you) It's all a scam, perhaps the biggest ever hoisted upon this country as Americans are lead like sheep to the slaugher, as you mention above. How sad.

Another bit of classic Rovian politics: polls mean nothing -- until we find one that supports our view . . .

The famous Mary Francis Berry comment. "Teabaggers, are no more racist than other repunlicans"......Does anybody dispute the fact that the two before mentioned groups are about equally racist.I have no problem with that....The problem is the artificial escalation of it.This is being used as a means to keep people who have reduced millions of working people to working for the bare needs of life from giving anything back....All I can say is follow the money......As many foodstamps as JP Morgan handles, they will not cry if things don't get better............Caddell probably did not show up because Bob Beckle said he would whip his but for defending Brietbart earlier today................The only major advertisers on Hannity's show are BP,Prolesec gas medicine so old far_s can far_.and Jeep with many conditions, and freebies.I wonder if Jeep is paying Hannity with government money, from government motors

Dobson's empire is a couple hours south of Boulder, in Colorado Springs. Boulder has (had?) the Dark Horse Saloon, Pearl Street, and the kinetics race. C. Springs has the Air Force Academy, The Broadmoor, and "Pokeus in the Fanny". There is an invisible force field around Boulder which neither Dobson nor Tom Tancredo can penetrate, and a gravitational field centered in the Springs from which both derive their lifes' essence.

The misconception is that our friend is a "hippie". He's not.

He's carrying around a little extra weight and that's the meaning of the word "hippy".

This way we won't confuse him with another fat ass who has a radio show.

Skip Gates, immigration, and the New Black Panthers. Those are the examples in the editorial of how Obama is dividing the country by race. Those three - being the examples in entirety that Obama's dividing the country racially - would indicate that he intends to racially divide the country by the nefarious method of being black. Thereby exposing that part of the country which hasn't yet come to grips with the reality that there are humans with skin color other than white.
