That was the very first thing that came to mind. I am surprised that some of the extremists in or running for office have not brought up the "second amendment solution" again.

What are they supposed to do?

Well, they could think for themselves and stop letting fear monger racists turn their state into a punch line.

      "Protect their citiznes?!"

      From WHAT?!

Oh yeah... All them dirty, scary, disease-ridden, flea infested, burrito-eating, water-poisoning, gun-toting, drug-dealing Mexicans I guess.

I mean, god forbid we NOT BE RACIST and allow people the opputunity to work hard and make a better life for their family. I mean, what kind of liberal un-American nonsense is THAT?!

Folks, you're being called racists because that what you ARE.

FACTS: Illegals pay taxes - about 80% what legal residents pay. What's more, since they don't collect social security, they are a net BENEFIT on that system. They do all the worst jobs at below market pay. (The only people who should be complaining about THAT are pro-labor liberals and democrats!) They work hard and obey the laws execpting the one that forces them to live in joblessness and poverty due to nothing more than good old fashined, all-american xenophobia and racsism. Period.

(If you're not buying that last bit, about obeying the law, it's been well established that violent crime has FALLEN, consitently in the border towns in the past 10 years even though the "illegal" population has exploded.

So, yes, by all means lets "protect ourselves" from those hard-working, law-abiding Mexicans...

If you want a real history lesson, take a look at the criminalization of cannabis in the mid 1930s. It began in the Desert Southwest, and was a response to both bad economic times and a need for politicians and pundits to have a scapegoat. Not surprisingly, the scapegoat then as now was the immigrant, usually Latino. Some things have not changed at all in the last 100 years.

Political scapegoats are certainly nothing new.

When they came for the Jews I did not stand up, maybe?

OK - Mexicans, in this case.

Yeah, there was a lot of shenanigans that resulted in the absurd over-regulation of cannibis. And the biggest problem with ANY political system is that there will always be the human factor: They politically expedient will always trump the effective (or the necessary.)

I had a professor in Grad School explain once that the best form of government is a dictatorship...

...provided that the dictotor is truly benevolent and really has the best long term interests of his people in his heart and mind.

And where can you find someone like that?

I love Blazing Saddles. I haven't seen it in years. Classic. I think you could say that Obama is the sheriff and it would very appropriate to how FOX sees the world today.

Agreed. I notice that they don't show it much on cable any more, unless it's heavily censored. I guess the language is just too crude for our modern sensibilities.

I consider it a classic, though. It does a great job of ridiculing the racist attitudes that are resurfacing in the Republican party since Obama's election.

This may be a good time for a Blazing Saddles revival.
