Wait. Conservatives have never liked teachers, but in the wake of 9-11 (the period which Beck claims to honor) police and firefighters were lauded (and rightfully so) as the backbone of the rescue effort.

So these people are apparently deadbeats now? Will beck go before a crowd of union cops or fireman to make this statement? Or, as usual, will he cower behind his microphone?

That's the thing. All cops and fireman (at least in larger cities, and even in my small town growing up) are all members of Unions.

Anyone who supports denying teachers, the police and firefighters a living wage should understand how things work.

These areas of expertise are essential services that must be provided by government. If their jobs and wages are on the chopping block, whose job is safe? Do you really think that if we cut salaries and funds to these services that any other job is safe from drastic wage cuts?

The leaders of the cons know that if we continue on this path, every job holder will be in a wage competition with someone in Bangladesh.

Well, by all means if people think their tax dollars should not be diverted for police and firemen's salaries, don't cry when you need to call 911.

Instead, be a "great American," get out the garden hose, and try to extinguish your own house if it catches fire. Same goes if someone breaks into your house, and robs it (with you at home). Don't sneak into a closet and call the cops; just deal with it.

That's what Sean Hannity would do.

And, if you were speaking at a GLAAD convention -- not that you ever would -- you'd probably speak with a lisp, right Becky?

The best part is the spinning 'news' logo in the corner. Seriously, how can this be defended as part of the political (I wanted to write intelligent but I guess one of the points is intelligent people are 'bad') discourse?

How is this helpful or even relevant?

In this video, Beck reminds me of the Master Thespian character from SNL. I was fully expecting him to yell "ACTING" at the end of it.

Or possibly as the two main characters of There Will Be Blood - both melodramatic and sleazy.

I think Beck and his good buddy Stossel think these professions should be privatized. We know they hate public schools... maybe they think we should all just fend for ourselves against crime and house fires, as well.

Rich guys like Nostradumbass can certainly afford their own private bodyguards, and can install sprinkler systems in their homes. See? Problem solved.

Oh, and the rest of us? Buy a gun and don't smoke in the house.

I'm getting down on my knees to ask God to "fix" this little problem that keeps stirring up $h!t on a daily basis. I'm hoping Glenda'll make a major faux paux from which he can't recover, and Ailes will be forced to take him off the air.

Let's see if this makes Keith Olbermann's "Worst Person in the World" tonight. Once this gets out to all the cops that he called them "pigs" and to all the firefighters and teachers, Glen might be close to toast. I say we use this as a rallying cry--after all, if we aren't all teachers, cops, or firefighters, we know people who are...and we are grateful to them.

      Rally Cry!

      <puts on critic hat>

Beck's performance in this piece, while sound on a technical basis (his body technique and vocal modulation were well synchronized, for instance), was hurt both by the material he was using, and his dependence on his own stereotype.

The material (for which he must also take responsibility) was fantastic only in the sense that it was pure fantasy, but that is not its worst flaw. Even if his intention is to create a dislike of the cities named, it is unlikely to be successful with a majority of people. Talking nasty about people is never attractive.

The whole "drawl" business is not well executed. It was neither consistent nor accurate. Here, Beck's facial gymnastics and wild verbal garnishes only served to remove any credibility or authority his message was intended to convey. In other words, anyone who takes this seriously cannot themselves be serious.

<takes off critic hat, laughs and points>
