Just shut up, Beck. Your lying schtick is just getting very, very old and very, very tired.
But remember, "families are off limits" . . .
Indeed.
But, let someone unleash on the alive-and-kicking Sarah Palin, and watch
for the absolute freak out . . .
Yep. A Kenyan economist criticizes British colonialism, and Glenn Beck freaks out, using it to imply that Obama Jr. is anti-white and a Stalinist.
Beck basically hopes his viewers never read Dreams From My Father, and instead assumes that Obama took his entire life from his father. What a despicable human being.
However, if you have a Eurocentric viewpoint like Beck, then British rule was probably the best thing that ever happened to the barbarians from Kenya. This is the same old attacks devoid of any historical context to explain why Obama's father may or may not have belived in something.
This took on a whole new dimension of fear or lunacy if you want to call it that, with the onset of the Cold War after 1945. During the 1930s and even the 20s, the US had a relationship with the Soviet Union. Roosevelt recognized them as a nation in 1933 I believe, and we sent agricultural exchanges to the Soviet union to study farming methods in their collective farms to use over here on our huge industrial farms. That is just on aspect of the relationship.
After the alliance broke apart with the end of WWII, the relationship went sour and the cold war, more than anything else in this historian's humble opinion, has shaped modern America's attitudes toward socialism. Where we see it we see Stalin or the Soviet Union and most uneducated Americans do not believe that any form of socialism can't exist without leading us down straight to Soviet Russia, even though socialism exists in the United States all around us.
Also, anti - communism in the 1950s was not so much to catch communists, since at the time of the Red Scare of the early to mid 50s, the communist party was at its smallest in decades. Anti - communism was used to attack liberalism and other opposing ideologies or your political opponents. This helps you understand that red - baiting of the Democratic Party today, since it takes on the same things. That is not really concerned with catching socialists or communists, but discrediting someone you disagree with or a political opponent. That is the short version and I hope I helped.
