Brian KillMe is an idiot, and so is this Sociologist who says local debate in Tennessee is healthy. Claiming locals are objecting to Tennessee Mosque because of "parking". Yeah, right.... 700 miles from Ground Zero is still too close I guess...

But, but, but... once they excavate for the foundation, it will be...

        (wait for it)

No... sorry. It has more to do with the redness of Tennessee necks. A local radio station interviewed one of the protesters. The woman just couldn't understand why they needed such a large building.

"We're at war with these people" she said... and, yes, that is an exact quote.

Tennessee Troglodytes... stupid and proud of it.

Oh yes, and isn't it delicious that the influx of the dreaded immigrants in this case is largely that of war refugees... doubtless, many are dispossessed Iraqis.

Allow me to add notice of the irony... had Tennessee's vote in November 2000 gone to the native son instead of the wonderful Dubya, Florida's vote would have been an afterthought and Albert Gore Jr would have been elected 43rd President of the United States.

In other words, the people of Murpheesboro are stupid bigots, and they want to be free to express their bigotry and try to intimidate the local Muslims, and they feel justified in their opinions and actions because they are thinking globally and acting locally. They can't get to New York City, but they can sure show those wicked Muslims that they won't put up with their type in Tennesee! Well, there is something to be said for such blatant bigotry, at least you know there will be more attacks where that came from. It's a bit safer for the target than covert prejudice. But it reinforces all the Redneck stereotypes.

You are correct. I live ten miles from Murfreesboro, and the ignorance is so thick you can cut it with a knife. Oh, sure... there are plenty of great people around here. Unfortunately, the prevailing political climate is pure Southern Troglodyte.

When I stand in line to vote, I feel like a visitor to an alien planet.

Nerz, I'm sorry you feel like an alien from another planet. I feel your pain. I plan on driving to Florida this fall (Harry Potter!) but I am dreading driving through the Carolinas and Georgia. I told a colleague and she said the people of the Carolinas are wonderful, friendly, and kind. I miss the West Coast.

And not by the intransigence and prejudice of the protesters themselves?

Glenn Beck made such a big deal about how the violence will come from the Left. But after such fear mongering over this thing I fear some of the "good ol' Boys" may be the instigators of violence. The whole confrontation thing in New York with the Black guy with the skullcap was too scary. If that had been pushed just a bit farther it might have gotten very ugly! brave Americans! Wet pants scared over a community center. Let Freedom Ring!

Of course Fox and their 24/7 anti-Islamic "news" coverage has nothing to do with it. </sarcasm>
