I think its to save all those brave neocons from the awful threatening brown folk.

Those bed wetting, size extra large, assult rifle wielding, scared of shadows neocons. What would we do without their manly example of true strong, yet somehow fragile american society.

          Nerz:

Limbaugh just wants to prevent the constitution from applying to non-whites. Period.

Liberals tend to be against religious mores being forced on people. That isn't what's happening here. These are people that want to peacefully practice their faith, and who have been adamant that you can be a good Muslim and a good American at the same time. We need more people like these.

We just like it when all religions are covered by the First Amendment as opposed to just Christianity. Y'know, all that stuff that Thomas Jefferson was so concerned about 200 years ago?

Squawks, believe it or not, faux conservatives like you don't have the religious market cornered. [I really doubt, based upon your twisted comments regarding Christianity, you're very religious at all.] Your comment is, as usual, ridiculously stupid and devoid of any facts AT ALL. I'll just pass it along to all of the theologians at our local Baptist university at church on Sunday. They'll get a kick out of your stupidity . . . most of them are Democrats.

I am strong true Christian and very left. The Bible is socialistic and Israel has some of the most successful communist communities in the world. These communities are kibbutzes and almost every Israeli national leader has come from one. There is a large religious left group in this country and we are growing.

media matters (for very little) just 'sherrodized' Limbaugh by abruptly cutting off his quote.

He went on to say how the US has become more tolerant of religious diversity throughout the years. They only ask for tolerance in return. If the imam wants to build bridges, is this anyway to win friends or influence people by ignoring the sentiments of those to whom you are building bridges?

Speaking truth to/about progressives with a shout out to the small number of victims of Al Queda's, muslim and non-muslim alike, terrorism for which it has blood on its hands. According to the dear imam, these victims are few and far between but I say, still deserve America's acknowledgment.

Nobody cared about this community center being built back in December. The neighborhood approved of it. Laura Ingraham even gave it a thumbs up. Nobody gave a crap until Pam Geller started her nonsense. It's an artificial controversy, a wedge issue to keep the lower class divided against itself and hand the GOP an electoral windfall. Nothing more. Hopefully there comes a day when we won't fall for cynical ploys like this.

I like the term 'poutrage' myself, pete592. It implies not only misguided petulance, but a certain childish insistence on having it's own way that I think speaks very well to those who are complaining about a community center in lower Manhattan. As I've mentioned elsewhere, the Faux Cons are mostly a big bag of whine.

This is a lie. He never said that, he said American foreign policy was responsible for more civilian deaths than Al-Qaeda. That's a fact.
And for the record, your "clarification" is just as stupid. So if Muslims want to be tolerated, white Christians get full veto power over everything they do. How American of you.

And this changed his bigotry how?

Sorry, fauxconservative, but tolerance for religious diversity was part of this country from the BEGINNING. Folks like you and Rush seem to think that Muslims have to ask permission to be here and that they have to EARN their right to worship in this country. According to the Constitution [you know, that document you claim to support], no one has to ask ANYONE for permission to worship or not worship in any way or in any place they wish. This outrage is being fueled by purely political motives by the faux conservative entertainers on Fox/hate talk radio. They know that their faux conservative followers [you] will believe whatever BS they shovel.

Given that we have freedom of religion right there in that Constitution-thingie (that you conservatives claim to be so fond of), we don't get to ask for ANYTHING "in return" for being tolerant of religious diversity.

Nope, you're either lying or ignorant.

They aren't asking for tolerance in return.

They're asking to be allowed to DENY the peaceful Sufi sect, who ARE Americans, their constitutionally-granted right to build a religious-themed structure anyplace that zoning regulations allow!

This group should NOT do that. They shouldn't "tolerate" that restriction, ANY restriction, on their freedom to express their religion in whatever way they see fit! One has the freedom to express oneself until it starts significantly impigning on another person's freedoms. But you don't have the 'freedom' to insist that your bigotry needs to be "tolerated" in such a way that it would prevent this group from builing where they want to build!

You really were unable to see the flaws in Blimpy's logic there ? You don't see the idiocy of claiming that the U.S. is very "tolerant", then going on to say that all they ask in return for that tolerance is a little tolerance of their intolerance ?

If by 'our society' Rush means the uber-wealthy Faux Con/Faux Christian metards that think like he does, then I would rather not save that particular society. They've caused quite enough damage already with their horrible fiscal policies, foreign policies, and nanny state regulation of everything else.

America itself is a pluralistic society: many colors, many creeds, many religions. Yet, despite Fox Propaganda and HAte 'eM radio, we all mostly manage to get along. Too bad Rush and those like him think America is a jar of cookies from which only they themselves may eat.
