Imams? Anyone hear them mentioned? Didn't think so. . .

Indeed. Never a mention of those nasty, evil imams. Muslims are the new enemy to rally against.

Bloody racist bastards. Wonder how many white hillbilly ignoramuses will be there at his rally tomorrow. Pretty much a guarantee that you won't see too many black people. And if a muslim shows up? Woe to them, because they'll be set upon faster than you can blink (or they'll be 'escorted out' of a public place that they have every right to be in).

You hit the nail on the head when you said it is a public place where they have every right to he. Beck and those attending this event have the same right.

Okay, but then Beck and his clones ought to at least have the decency to be honest about why they are there, and whose legacy they are co-opting for what purposes. They have an obligation to tell the truth (The fact that they lie so routinely ought to cause you some degree of concern.)

As a hostile bigot, a career homophobe, and someone hosting an explicitly homophobic preacher, Beck and his clones need to be aware that the actual organizer of the real March on Washington was an openly gay man, Bayard Rustin (also a self-described progressive who worked on Gandhis Free India campaign... remember what Beck said about India?)

Thats just the bare fact of it all... you cant change that truth. A progressive gay man headed one of the most noble causes that liberated ALL Americans.

Because of the very bigotry mobilized today by Beck, Hagee, Palin, Breitbart etc... Rustin had to remain hidden in the Civil Rights movement. His posture as an openly gay man, and the fact that he was arrested in a gay night-club (which were illegal in America back then), made him an easy target for the very bigots whose anger Beck feeds off today. They wanted to slander all of Civil Rights by slandering Rustin (just as they want to slander all progressives by slandering Jennings, ACORN, Shirely Sherrod etc...)

So while Rustin had to work covertly in Civil Rights, he is nevertheless credited by all accounts (especially by Dr King, whom he mentored in non-violent non-cooperation) as being the brain behind it.

Beck doesnt know about Rustin, nor does he care. This is all political theater to him... emotional pornography gobbled by a mindless following who chooses to be ignorant and happily buttresses its own angry prejudices with bald-faced lies manufactured by Glenny himslef.

Beck is free to play his morbid little games where ever he wants. He can distort history, mock the long-suffering persistence of Civil Rights activists, wrap himself in lie after self-serving delusional lie, and encourage his clones to follow him in such pointless, angry, empty hysterics.

But he has an obligation to be honest about the truth, and about whose work he is appropriating for his own disingenuous purposes.

The fact that he doesnt know the real faces of Civil Rights, and the fact that he opts to not discuss such truths, speaks volumes... even louder then when he screamed (like a little baby) at that one woman GET OFF MY PHONE (then an octive higher) GET OF MY PHONE!!!!!

Ironically, Beck is right that we need faith, hope and charity. But not honoring the Muslim faith was not very charitable. And any true faith includes social justice, as MLK very well knew. I am hopeful that most people will eventually see beyond Beck's populist appeals to flag and faith. The truth will eventually win out -- as MLK also knew well.

I totally appreciate where you are coming from, and completely agree.

But values like faith hope and charity sound rather empty when coming from a person like Glenn beck, who has made a career out of inciting bigoted anger with lunatic hyperbole and spreading bald-faced lies.

Beck and Palin cannot even be honest about their own words and actions. Their lies are legion and they never own up to them. I don’t see any spiritual merit in someone who cannot admit their own faults, or acknowledge their wrongs. And neither Palin nor Beck has ever had the integrity to come clean about such inflammatory lies like healthcare holocausts or death panels (lies which they still defend and promote.)

Moreover, remember what Beck said about Churches that taught about Social Justice?
                http://www.politicsdaily.com/2010/03/08/glenn-beck-urges-listeners-to-leave-churches-that-preach-social/

Dr King, Bayard Rustin etc.. all were active in Churches that taught the value of social justice.

After months peddling hyperbole that slandered ideas like social justice, compassion and civil rights as communist, Beck has the audacity to pretend he represents them.

The mendacious audacity is only matched by Palin pretending to have common cause with Dr King, just days after exhorting Dr. Laura to RELOAD! for using the N-word in such an obnoxious and mean-spirited way.

I wonder what Alveda honestly thought of palins defense of Dr. Laura. I mean, between that and raging against social justice, the whole cast really represents the antithesis of Dr. Kings message.

In any case, habitual liars like Beck or Palin are certainly in no position to speak of honor, or how to restore it.

Your claim is false. In contrast, the NAACP is a a black organization and La Raza is a Hispanic organization. Got any problems with them?

You have never heard of Dick Van Dyke or Mary Tyler Moore, have you? I ought to let you do the homework on that one. You would be surprised to see how diverse the NAACP really is.

Not exactly a strong comparison, Dixie. The NAACP and the National Council of La Raza (which should not be confused or lumped in with others who use "La Raza") are organizations with the specific goals of supporting rights for African American and Hispanics. It's hardly a surprise that the bulk of their members would be minorities.

The Burning Beck Festival is allegedly a "grassroots" movement (one that is being funded by a number of big bucks conservative individuals and organizations), that it is being extended to and speaking on behalf of all Americans (with a line up of speakers heavily tilted towards the Christian Conservative side of the spectrum), and that it is apolitical (there are no independents nor members of the Democratic Party among the elected representatives who have been invited to speak).

And the stated goals? Well, that's shifted a great deal from day to day over the last few months, but the things we've most consistently heard have been to "restore honor," (ummm--just when did we lose it and just what do these people blame for that?) to "support our Constitutional Rights," (another thing I haven't seen that has been lost or seen anyone attempting to take away unless you're a community of American citizens wishing to build a community center) and to "reclaim the Civil Rights Movement," (no snark required--it's a claim that mocks itself).

All this has been targeted to and has certainly attracted an audience that is wildly disproportionately Caucasian--an indisputable fact that undermines any claim of "we're doing this for all of America."

I dont know whats creepier, the fact that Beck has these people trained like pigeons, or that he really hasnt a freakin clue about what he is blathering.

First Glenn, get a history lesson NOT provided by your University.

Yes, it was Bayard Rustin, a person of faith that marshalled Civil Rights under nonviolence, mentored Dr King, co-founded the Southern Church Leadership conference, and organized the March on Washington,... a gay, progressive, multi-cultural, pacifist, humanist person of faith who worked with Hindus and Muslims on the Free India campaign.

Does Beck know or care?... of course not... Becks negligence is perhaps the only thing reliable about him, outside of his anger.
