I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing your average building contractor would know exactly what those numbers mean.

I strongly suspect Stossel knows what those numbers mean---at least in a basic sense. But rather than pass his knowledge on, he has to act as those he's as uninformed and incurious as the viewers he wishes to appeal to.

According to idiots like this , disabled people like me should go die somewhere. After all , what do we contribute to the GNP?

That's exactly what they think. In their minds, anyone who is not a rich white Christian should be grateful that rich white Christians let us live in their country.

. . .you are welcome/useful in the US between the ages of 18 (military age) and 52 (unwritten corporate retirement age) after that you are on your own so you better have made a fortune during that time.

by the way do you like cat food.

One more thing. Some people say that Stossel uses handicapped parking spaces even when other spaces are available , just on principle.

An Open Letter to John Stossel:

      Dear John Stossel -

I hope you never find yourself in a position to need accomodation (be it a parking space or a ramp to get in to a building) and not have it available to you. As someone who is disabled and is grateful every day for ADA, I can say with all sincerity that ypur position on this topic sucks.

Guess who does know what those things in the act mean? The people who build houses and buildings.

Also, that elevator in a lifeguard stand is a LIE. It's a story from Clearwater, FL and was not covered by ANY newspaper or major news outlet. Why not? Because it wasn't an elevator, it was a wheelchair lift... And it wasn't a lifeguard stand, it was a small house under a pier used to store supplies for maintenance and lifeguard supplies. Finally... It was never done! It was only discussed.

You are a liar, a simpleton, and a hatemonger, John Stossel.

Republicans are never done hating. They hate Muslims, Liberals, Illegal Aliens, the poor, the Disabled.... Jeeez. The list is getting too long to remember in one quick sitting.

Oh, so now it's about pretending to care about the disabled? Yesterday it was to keep the crafty disabled from menacing us with their helper snakes.

The events of the last few years have turned me into a Yellow Dog Democrat. It's frustrating, too, because the Democrats are all but useless... they're just less evil than Republicans.

Agreed. I so wish the Democratic Party would show some spine. There are flashes of fighting back against the crap spewed on a daily basis by the right wing noise machine but no concerted effort. You would think that with all the intelligent and creative people who define themselves as liberals, progressives or Democrats, that the party could formulate a plan to stand up against these idiots. Wishing too much, I suppose.

Give a man a ramp, and you give him access for a day. Teach a man to walk, and he'll have access for the rest of his life.

All this ramp and lower drinking fountains and close parking stuff is just taking their incentive to walk away from them. Why should they bother with a jog when the government ensures that they can get along fine without walking? You want to know what's wrong with this country? I'll tell you - it's the Americans With Disabilities Act took the legs right out from under the traditional walk ethic that made this country great.

Oh but he is disabled: he claims he suffered just the most awful, career threatening pain and ringing in his ears after he was slapped, so he sued and settled out of court for $425,000. Which is, like, such a libertarian free market and private enterprise way to solve things. </sarcasm>

I worked for a building contractor. Most of the work we did was in the wastewater field. However one of the things we did was making buildings ADA compliant. We bid on and we awarded several ADA compliance contracts. So ADA creates jobs.
I have an elderly mother and stepfather who both have trouble getting around due to physical ailments. They have the proper license plate and documents to use the handicapped spaces. I for one am glad the ADA exists. John Stossel is a dovche nozzle.

Health Care Reform is bad for sick people, Social Security is bad for the elderly, and now the ADA is bad for the disabled. The sad fact is that those who need the protections of these laws the most are buying into this nonsense.

Stossel: Americans with Disabilities Act is "doing the disabled more harm than good"

Wasn't Stossel the same a$$hole who thought businesses should be able to disregard the Civil Rights Act?

Someday, people are going to want to discriminate against idiots who wear '70s style pornstaches -- then what will Stossel do?
