Is there anything more transparently phony than these guys pretending to care about "sensitivity", re:Park51?

I think it qualifies as a, "Too busy slinging the bull they haven't noticed they've buried themselves moment."

This tedious display of sarcasm is based upon their turning to the Google and discovering that 10/2 is the date of Gandhi's birth--something that wouldn't be generally known to U.S. citizens.

King's 8/28 speech, of course is better known (granted, more people were probably more familiar with the words and context of the speech--something that will not happen with the Beck--than the actual date). Yes, it's entirely possible that Beck and company were absolutely unaware of the significance of holding a rally on that particular date at that particular location (when you've got Barton as your history advisor all kinds of things can get wildly distorted) when they were looking for an available Saturday. Nevertheless, they pushed ahead once they supposedly became aware of that date's meaning and asked us to accept it was the divine will of God at work.

So, it we are to charitably accept what this weak display of satire is based upon, Beck's brainless buds are basically saying that the date of King's speech holds no more significance than any other piece of trivial information, and that treating it with some sort of respect was less important than incorporating it into their marketing.

        What idiots.

MW is right on. MLK day is PRINTED in all US Calendars. Saying he was unaware of it is idiotic or really sleazy or both. Let's assume he's that stupid. WHEN he found out, he could have re-arranged things and come out a respectful man. But no. No one will remember it anyway.

Well, to be fair, Martin Luther King Jr. Day falls in January.

As I said, I'm willing to bet that a lot of people were unaware of the exact date of King's speech, but it's certain nearly everyone knows the location and the significance. Nevertheless, the Insane Rodeo Clown's Posse has offered sarcasm that suggests they equate the actual date to being something only marginally significant--after a several week build up of telling us how this was determined by the hand of God.

So, lame jokes that expose just what unthinking clods they are, and clearly reveals how they, employees of the Beck, have sacrificed any integrity they might have once had for the chance of collecting a paycheck for standing by their man.

Another day at the office at Mercury Radio.

Hmmmm. Mercury. A Roman God. Wonder how the Black Robe gang feels about how their #1 spokesperson embraces a pagan figure?

No, the only 'gods' Beck embraces are himself and Mammon. Murcury Radio Arts is Beck's trophy - a tribute to the radio master Orson Welles.
I think Welles is spinning in his grave.

Oh, I did know that (honest) and I've been rather amused that Beck decided to name his business in honor of an undeniable fine artist--who also happened to trigger the greatest episode of false fear in the history of broadcast media.

Nevertheless, I'm still amused that the Wholly Owned Profit Beck, the new self proclaimed messenger of God, owns a company that holds the name of the messenger of the Roman gods.

Give me a chalkboard and an hour of air time. I could provide all kinds of "proof" of the Beck's secret pagan ways!

Welles is Beck's hero . . . he re-created the "War of the Worlds" broadcast on his XM program. Beck,is a con artist. It's what he does . . . he is laughing his A** off at all of the people who believe his nonsense. He has utter disdain for every single one of them.

. . .you got to admit that War of the Worlds show of 1938 was pretty realistic,

get this, the shows news bulletin format was specially effective and deceptive and many people complained

So the Beck show does have its roots in the Mercury Theatre on the Air

Beck chose 8/28 back in November of last year. He knew almost immediately after he posted his little blurb on his website in November exactly the significance of that date, even if he didn't know before. The deadline for submitting an application for a permit with the Park Services is 48 hours prior to the event. If he sincerely had not wanted to insert himself into the MLK legacy, he could have changed the date. This was completely intentional.

Ah gee, is our skin a little thin, boys? It will be interesting to see who turns out for the October rally, it is open to all. Will it be as old, White, and Protestant as yours? I only saw a couple of dozen African Americans at your rally, and most of them were working, a lot of the others were passing by on the way to the Sharpton rally, and this is in D.C., a city with a high percentage of African American residents. Somehow, I don't think Gandhi would mind this rally, but yours, I think he would have condemned. Gandhi and his followers were often the victims of blows, real and political, they never joked and mused about hating or killing people with whom they disagreed. And the word you jerks are looking for is dhoti. And a Mormon should never mock someone for wearing a dhoti, considering your own undergarments.

Just out of curiosity, has Beck said in recent times that he IS presently a practicing Mormon...or does he simply say he became a Mormon at auch and such a time? I'd be curious to know if Beck regularly attends Church and actively practices his religion...

Oh please. Regular attendance at religious services only matters for President Obama. If Bleck (or Shrub, or St. Ronnie) never darken a church's doorstep, that doesn't make them any less holy.

Well, he sorta does. Given how particular Mormons are about tithing, if he is invoking the church, you can bet they're getting their 10%'s worth. But that is an interesting question, and they are often silent about his show and his positions. Hmm?

You see where I'm going with this...it wouldn't surprise me at all if Beck is not presently an active LDS member in good standing.

Glenn Beck loves money too much for me to believe he is voluntarily coughing up 10% of his earnings. More likely, he has probably negotiated the definition of his "earnings".

BTW, is the 10% tithe based on gross earnings, taxable earnings, after-tax earnings...?

With all the crap Glennie spreads, why not lie about this, too. Lee Atwater converted to Catholicism in his last days and claimed to read his Bible daily, except when he died, it was still the wrapper. But still, it has been an enormous influence on him, just look at all the Mormon authors and experts he presents. His world view is taken from fringe Mormons, like Skousen.

Having been raised in the Mormon church (though I haven't been in years), Beck continually does things that goes against the teachings and doctrines of the Mormon church. I'm quite honestly surprised he hasn't been excommunicated yet.

The way he ACTS on this show, the things he says, and many of the premises he presents are contrary to the teachings of the Mormon church. It's really disgusting and misrepresents the Mormon religion.

These two are complete morons. No matter what date this rally was going to be held on they'd find something that happened on that day to criticized it. You could survey a thousand people and maybe 10 or so would have known that it was Ghandi's birthday. So its not very widely known. For such a "history buff" and Glenda, there was a 0.0000000000000000000000000000000% probability that he did not know it was King's anniversary. He knew it and played dumb and invoked that God chose that day for him.

These idiots follow like two pages in the Bible and disregard the rest because they're inconvenient like lying and non bearing false witness against thy neighbor.

Even if the day were specifically chosen for Gandhi's birthday (I don't believe it was, but just if it were) there seems to be a huge difference in how the two sides treat it. The left heaped scorn on Beck for choosing the date, while offering respect to King. The right is heaping scorn on the 10/2 organizers for supposedly choosing Gandhi's birthday while also heaping scorn on Gandhi. That is not a small difference.
