And similarly, there were no wars during the Johnson adminstration except for that one time. And Reagan never sold arms for hostages after the time that he did.

Not to mention there was no economic downturn except for the one that lasted the entire Bush/Cheney dynasty. I spent the majority of those miserable years being unemployed - unlike these chumps that yammer on about the "good old days".

So, you think it clever to make fun of the previous post? Where he mentioned that he had been unemployed? Really?

I think a good place to start understanding the current economic cycles is to understand the Reagan years, and some good information can be found at this link and the recommended book: http://www.truth-out.org/012809L

Another fantastic book that exposes the tax cuts are stimulative myth is by Ravi Batra: Greenspan's Fraud. He is a brilliant economist that cuts through the spin in a clear, easy to read way. http://www.amazon.com/Greenspans-Fraud-Decades-Policies-Undermined/dp/1403968594

A great web sites for economic information is Dean Baker's Center for Economic and Policy Research: http://www.cepr.net/

Good things to know: when income taxes on the super rich are below 50%, the economy tanks because they move their money overseas or into tax shelters. The tax rate for this group was 90% in the Eisenhauer years. When the tax rate for the very rich is high, they tend to plow most of their profits back into their businesses (and hire employees) The out sourcing craze among these folk is the largest answer as to why we've had so many "jobless recoveries" in the last 30 years.

The super-rich are very different than you and me, except that is when it comes to tax rates. Couples making $137,000 pay 25% of their income in federal taxes. But someone making 10 times that or $1.5 million a year, or for that matter $100 million, will pay 35%. Factor in the carried-interest break that some Wall Streeters still get, off-shore tax shelters and other tricks that the super rich use to avoid paying Uncle Sam and the effective tax rates of the middle class and the upper-upper class are probably pretty similar.

Those who come in uninformed and rely on partisan spin doctors are easily manipulated. The people who ran our economy into the ditch want another go, and haven't learned a thing. They run "against government" and when they are IN GOVERNMENT and in charge, they are still against government make sure it cannot function.

They simply divert your attention with phony issues and rachet up fear to motivate you to vote against your own better self.

Those were also the years when they decided to remove from the unemployment rolls those who had run out of unemployment insurance. They weren't employed, they just weren't counted.

. . .after this week another of my unemployed friends bites the dust succumbing to a "stress related disease" he said being layed off saved his life, it was the eight years of "productivity" that did him in.

"Productivity" means 4% unemployment to you, but to those who are subjected to it means another form of Darwinism.

In all of the economics classes I took in graduate school, it was always emphasized that 3% of workers are always unemployed at one time or another. Does stupidcon think that Reagan raised tax rates with a 1% unemployment rate?

On the day President Bush took office, the national debt stood at $5.727 trillion. The latest number from the Treasury Department shows the national debt now stands at more than $9.849 trillion. That's a 71.9 percent increase on Mr. Bush's watch.

They'll periodically trot out the lies that don't take with the American public and try them again to test the waters.

They'll have a lesser mouthpiece do it, but ultimately it's part of "getting it out there" into the public discourse again.

In time people's memories get foggier and the daily information overload makes it easier to convince people that something didn't happen then to remind them of a series of specific events.

First, why does Bush get a pass FOR 9-11? His administration began nine months before those attacks, and his administration ignored the warning signs, so why are we pretending that his administration began on September TWELFTH, 2001?

Second, there WERE attacks after 9-11. Oh, sure, some of them weren't committed by Arabs or Muslims, but whether committed by stereotypical terrorists or someone who doesn't fit the "profile", they're still terrorist acts -- we just don't call them that.

In the days after 9-11 in Chicago, the media breathlessly reported that an L-train had been stopped by police, and evacuated after a strange substance was found spilled in one car.

Turns out it was just guacamole. 100% true story.

Had Fox News been on the case they would have accused every Mexican restaurant in the city of being in league with Al Qaeda.

They count on our not having their staying power. We also tend to think that people are more rational and well informed than they are, and these falsehoods will eventually fail by their own weight. Not true. The Repugs will keep trotting them out until the Big Lie effect takes over. That's why we have to be vigilant and active. It's also why they hate us so much. The greatest insight into the weakmindedness of leftys here and otherwise, is the fact that the guest spends the first 2/3rds of the clip complimenting obama for his war on terror. It is only at the very end that he makes his comment regarding Bush that made mm(fvl) go jumping ugly.

I guess the sad truth is that obama has so little with which to defend his record that the left overlooks something like this and instead attacks President Bush. It's like he has done nothing of note on his own, even winning the Iraq war wasn't his baby.

His economic policies stink and have put us on the brink of insolvency (MORE stimulus, are you kidding?), foisted obamacare on an populace that didn't want it, is attacking his own citizens for their desire of a safe border and is making this great land into his vision of venezulamerica.

I guess if that is all you have to run with as a lefty, you have to ignore the good news to attack, because you don't own any of good news to share with the, certain to be rejecting the left, voting public.

              leftwithoutintelligence,

So how are those living as unemployed in the obama years faring?

And am I un-American for wanting this country to be the successful, economic powerhouse it has been?

As far as Somalia, check the GDP numbers, the US ranks about 170 in economic growth today. So how is that the kind of hope and change we need?

Tow that party line! Ignore the fact that Bush policies started this recession (the crash happened during the election in 08) and blame the guy who is trying to fix the mess. Use skewed math and ignore the FACT that GWB lost more jobs in America than any other president in history and then try to convert people who know better with bad math.

Stupid. You're not trying to debate, you're trying to cause flame wars. Juvenile.

Yeah, seven out of how many inucmbents have lost? 100+ incumbents?

Do you realize that incumbents almost never lose? They need an extremely damaging scandal to lose their place. And like always, you are only using Rasmussen to prove your point. Just because polls say something doesn't make it definite. Theory and practice are two different things.

If proud's polls ARE right, it shows how many people have brain fog and are on anti-reality drugs. Way too many.

And this also shows he doesn't give a rat's azz about the country. It's all a game to him.

Another mm(fvl)! Sooo funny! And I looooooove how you capitalize and correctly put "President Bush" while referring to "obama" with a little o. Sprinkle on an "obamacare" and a dash of "venezulamerica" and give credit for winning in Iraq to GWB and BAM! The perfect troll post that deserves no retort but a heapin' helpin' of mockery.

          leftbehindtheeightball,

Again, nothing positive from lefty dem progressives. Only a hope that millions of informed and motivated voters somehow don't show up in November. Yes, that's the ticket!

Nothing, absolutely nothing, the leftys have done to this country in the past 20 months appeals to the exceptionalism of America or Americans.

          Don't worry at all..................

Great picture of the yawn-able Beck rock concert with 1/2 term quiter and toe sucking sleaze as opening acts. 80,000 people it's hardly anything significant and it was a non-political rally by Beck's own statements so it really has no bearing on anything political.

Hey, phony boy, you are aware that there were many of those folks in the mall who would have been there in the first place, right? The Park system reports that 80,000-100,000 people visit the Mall on any given summer Saturday. About the same number of folks who were at Beck's sacrilegious book launch [yeah, I know he didn't actually launch it that day, but it was based upon the premise of his latest ghostwritten tome of schlock.] The man is a con-man and is NOT a conservative, just a con-man.
