There are approximately 2000 churches and 4000 informal places of worship such as community halls and homes, thus a total of some 6000 churches

Secondly, as I have repeatedly documented here, there are TONS of new residential buildings either going up in that area of lower Manhattan or being converted from office buildings! They need more space - it's not unnecessary religious space!!!!!
Having the right to do something doesn't make it right. Very simple although difficult for you folks to understand. Of course you would understand it if your minds were not welded shut.
The opposition to the Cordoba House is based on bigotry by most, cowardice and ignorance by others, not exclusive to any political party, ideology, and religion (yes I know of some Muslims who are against this and I have reason to disagree with them). Most of the non-Muslim opposition wouldn't want a mosque to be built anywhere else in the USA or in their own backyard.
Park 51 will have a mosque, as well as an interfaith panel, 9/11 memorial, culinary school, swimming pool, etc. This will be on the same "sacred ground" as strip clubs.
