There are approximately 2000 churches and 4000 informal places of worship such as community halls and homes, thus a total of some 6000 churches

First off, when some outside group can insist that a mosque shouldn't be built, or should be built in a specific place and NOT in another space, the group that wants to build the mosque has lost their religious freedom guaranteed by our US Constitution. Not only can't the government restrict their freedom of religion, but the gov't has an obligation to ensure that no one else restricts their freedoms!

Secondly, as I have repeatedly documented here, there are TONS of new residential buildings either going up in that area of lower Manhattan or being converted from office buildings! They need more space - it's not unnecessary religious space!!!!!

Why not call the project by it's real name, Cordoba House? And if it is not a Mosque than there are no religious freedom issues at play here. But of course there never were any freedom issues involved. The opposition to the Cordoba House is based on the lack of wisdom of the project. It is too bad our gutless president doesn't have the stones to comment on the wisdom of the project, just like most on the left, but he is quick to point out they have the right to do it. That was never in dispute.

Having the right to do something doesn't make it right. Very simple although difficult for you folks to understand. Of course you would understand it if your minds were not welded shut.

The opposition to the Cordoba House is based on bigotry by most, cowardice and ignorance by others, not exclusive to any political party, ideology, and religion (yes I know of some Muslims who are against this and I have reason to disagree with them). Most of the non-Muslim opposition wouldn't want a mosque to be built anywhere else in the USA or in their own backyard.

Park 51 will have a mosque, as well as an interfaith panel, 9/11 memorial, culinary school, swimming pool, etc. This will be on the same "sacred ground" as strip clubs.
