I liked the part where Blimpy the Chimp referred to himself as an "advanced human" right in the middle of demonstrating that he doesn't understand evolution.

        In fact, I thought that was going to be the highlight for me, until he says;

" Now, I know, evolution is Darwin."

Where most people who were able to keep up with the rest of the class at least through high school know that evolution is natural science, El Rushbo thinks it's something invented by Darwin.

Tomorrow's lesson: Electricity is Ben Franklin.

Apparently, she hasn't had a job at all for the past 5-6 years. She claimed she had her home foreclosed on because she was helping a pro bono client and wasn't making any money because of it. I'm not sure what kind of client she would have had that she would represent pro bono. She's not a lawyer or any other type of advocate that I know of. She's just nuts.

Remember Dogbreath, this is a woman who strictly opposes masturbation, because she feels that it leaves no place for the woman in a relationship. So perhaps what she was doing was going around to guys and offering to give them handjobs or something, so that they wouldn't do it themselves. After all, according to that interview she did, pleasing men sexually is apparently a woman's job.

Here, Media Matters does a public service by exposing Rush's ignorance of the history of ideas. At about the time Darwin was doing his own work, Alfred Russell Wallace was reaching many of the same conclusions as a result of his studies of biology. An experiment in the late 19th Century had a side effect of demonstrating that the speed of light is independent of the velocity and direction of the observer. If Einstein had never existed, it's likely some physicist and/or mathemetician might have trod the same path Einstein took. (Paul Dirac? Neils Bohr?)
So many hands were involved in modern computing, and even television, that no single inventor is generally cited for the developmnent of these device, except for contributions by Claude Shannon and Philo Frnsworth among others.

Are you saying that there is only one truth and no matter what path is taken in the world of science, the same conclusion is achieved? Is that why every religion basically has it's own conclusions?

Every once in a while the right wing noise machine lets something like this slip. It then becomes painfully clear that they don't believe and/or know what they are talking about but will continue to say it because the know they have to push the Republican party back into power.

Actually, I watched a documentary where Einstein was given the moniker of one of the greatest minds ever. I now forget which (his general or his special theory) was referred to as such, but the presenters talked to various scientists (Hawlking, Davis, etc) and they mentioned that the one theory was so far off the beaten track and 'common sense' that it is likely that nobody would ever have thought of it. The other would likely have been 'discovered' by others yes, but the one was simply not discoverable outside of a genius-type leap in logic and reasoning.

Of course, I'd also argue that you can't really claim that a person was 'responsible' for any large generational scientific gains. Because every gain and discovery is dependent on those who came before and figured other stuff out first. In that sense, the first cave-man who discovered fire and how to reproduce it could be cited as the father of everything I would imagine. Good ole' Unga-Bunga with his fiery stick made the continued survival of mankind possible. Of course, no rational person would ever actually make that argument, but it kind of illustrates how twisted the reasoning can get when we start playing 'who's the best/most important scientist' with historical figures. :)

One of my favorite shows was called Connections, which came on either the History Channel or Discovery. The narrator would show how the invention of the microchip could be traced back to the domestication of ducks, or some such thing. It was a fascinating show.

James Burke, BBC Science Editor (IIRC). He did two follow-ups to Connections (simply C2, C3), and other documentaries (I remember one on Global Warming).
I think it was long enough ago that the original airing was PBS (pre-cable, at least as we know cable today). I probably still have the VHS copies of the entire first series, and have gotten the later ones via Public Library (oh, I love the various DVDs I can check out...from A Face In The Crowd to Knowing). (BTW, Knowing, 2012, Armageddon, etc. are some of the least liked movies I've ever seen.)
I do have the original book, too.. haven't seen/gotten the later ones.

Don't get too cocky. I'm sure some of them would be dumb enough to try. "If man evolved from monkeys, then why are there still monkeys? Huh?"

Stephen Colbert did a bit the other night about staring at a baby for several hours while it never turned into a middle-aged man. Pretty good satire on the anti-evolutionist view.

Reminded me of one I used on a wingnut who was arguing with me about the absurdity of an ape-like creature becoming human over millions of generations, because they were so different.

I asked him if a lemon seed and a lemon tree were more or less similar than a man and an ape. I think his response was something like that was different, because he had seen that transformation. Mind-boggling.

Decades ago (I would estimate 1970's), I remember a local news story about Evolution, and they had one 'man on the street' interview where he said he had been going to the Zoo for years and never saw any of the animals there 'evolve'.
Consider also, the length of the human lifespan compared to the age of even Redwoods, let alone dealing with Geologic Time. It's kind of an 'ego thing'.. If I don't witness it, it doesn't exist.

Strangely satisfying to hear Bimbo fantasizing about a world without the enlightenment. Face it, tubbs. It happened and you can't undo it. We liberal apes are just waiting for your kind to die off (or be raptured) so we can get down to some serious progress. You sir, are a speed bump on the road of humanity.

We all evolved from Monkeys...some of the monkeys got left behind and now we live in peace and harmony among each other. If we could get rid of all CO2 burning possesions we can live together again among the trees!

The best thing to do is not respond. Because he hasn't learned the first rule of satire, that is to exaggerate, his posts just come across as someone spouting a lot of common sense in an over-exuberant manner.

We can all agree with this, can't we? Yet, the poster is implying the opposite with abysmal results.

I got your point, and it's something many of us notice when wingnuts try to do satire or sarcasm. They don't seem to think that you're supposed to say absurd things in a sarcastic way, not reasonable things.

Sometimes they alternate between their actual thoughts and ridiculous strawmen in the same sentence, making it doubly confusing.

Most right wingers have a hard enough time forming complete, simple sentences. Attempting more complicated moves, like satire, before the fundamentals are there is like entering one of those freestyle BMX contests before getting your training wheels off.

Not as long as they keep their Binary Thinking.. good satire requires 1) knowing something about the subject of the satire and 2) understanding the difference between satire and simply ranting.

Sorry, I wasn't implying that Rush has any knowledge of the things he babbles on about, badly phrased. I should have asked how many subjects could he demonstrate his lack of knowledge about.

Which is still pretty badly written, but I'm tired. :)

Every single utterance that Rush Limbaugh makes is embarrassing.
Every single utterance he makes is born of ignorance and the glorification of stupidity, how can he not feel ashamed of himself?
      I feel ashamed for him.

Also, I gotta be honest: he is not even remotely funny, so what are you when you have no intelligence And you have no wit? ... I call it An Embarrassment...
