Yeah, Rush. History has definitely proven that the white man got the raw end of the deal when it came to relations with the Native Americans.

Err...the United States never bought Manhattan island...at all. Not even one time much less twice. Manhattan Island was originally occupied by the Lenape people. In 1613 the dutch established a trading post on the western shore. In 1614 the New Netherland company was established and a second trading post was established in what is now Albany (also considered the first U.S. capital). In 1616 the dutch settled a trading post in the Kingston area. In 1623 the dutch built Fort Amsterdam and waged what was essentially economic warfare on the Lenape people who overvalued Wampum (the dutch gave them tools they could use to more easily produce wampum, the Lenape abandoned fishing and hunting in favor of beaver trapping, the dutch started making wampum themselves with superior tools and dominated the trade relationship with the Lenape people making them highly dependent on the dutch). The town of New Amsterdam grew around the fort. In 1664 the English captured the island from the dutch and the city was renamed New York in on June 12, 1665. The dutch regained the colony in 1673 renaming it New Orange then ceded it permanently to England in 1674 after the Third Anglo-Dutch War. The city of New York was a base of operations for the French and Indian War from 1754 - 1763. During the Revolutionary War Manhattan came under rebel control in 1775. The Brittish reconquered the island in 1776 and held it until 1783. In November of 1783 the Brittish evacuated Manhattan. In 1785 the U.S. Congress met on Manhattan island under the Articles of Confederation making it the first national capital U.S. On September 13 1788, New York City was made the first capital city of the United States. It remained the capital until 1790.

As you can see not only did the U.S not buy Manhattan island from native americans twice, it didn't buy the island from anyone even once and in reality no one bought the island from anyone at all. Certainly not for $24 (a currency that didn't exist yet).

Being an Equal Opportunity Bigot, Limbaugh also takes a cheap potshot at Jesse Jackson's pronunciation of "Manhattan", too.

Look. Two words that fit great together 'Rush' and 'Scam'.

Let's be nice, it is Thanksgiving. He is just giving thanks he is a rich white man. Who cares that on that same land, he has this:

      http://www.businessinsider.com/house-porn-of-the-day-rush-limbaughs-1395-million-dollar-5th-ave-penthouse-2010-3

Silly me, I realize what he means now! Instead of paying for the land with beads, we should have just shot them and took it.

Wait, it's even worse than that: Manhattan was sold for $24 in 1626...to the Dutch.

I guess "us" is "white people," which makes sense given the source.

Not quite true - the Dutch used "thalers" before the introduction of the Dutch guilder; we get the word "dollar" from this term. That might be what the $24 refers to; I'm not entirely sure.

Even if this little story is true, so what? We stole enough land from the Native Americans to make up for it.

I'm not the only one here that notices, with most of the Blimpy items, that he basically does the same shtick every day, so I'll give him a little credit for freshening up his act, and expanding his hate a little bit.

Hey, black people, Mexicans, gays and non-Republican women; Take the day off and happy Thanksgiving. Native Americans are taking this shift.

I feel so scammed. I thought for sure the Native American Indians were suppose to give your ancestors a blanket when they got off the boat. You know the blanket that the white man gave on purpose to the Natives. The one with small pox virus on it. But, I was scammed and as a direct result from that, you are here spreading your virus of Hate and Fear.

Gosh, Rush, if we got such a raw deal for Manhattan, let's give it back. Our pride has been hurt, we can't let that happen. In fact, we can not appear stupid.
