Love the logic the Cmdr Pill Popper attempts:

any time it snows = climate change is a myth
any time there is record heat = heat index is a conspiracy

My head hurts just trying to think down to his level, I'm guessing Michelle Bachmann shares his new pharmaceutical dealer.

The heat index is another way the local "news" gets to gin up their fear and loathing regarding the weather. The weather "report" when I was a kid was 5 minutes. On a hot day it can take up over half of the reporting. Capitalism at its finest, Rushbo.

I've been listening to Lispy here and there today, and there was a LOL moment, I think right after the bit in this clip.

He was talking about getting in a cab in Boston, and the cabbie asked if he'd been warned about the weather, that it was going to be 99 degrees.

According to LIspy's story, at this point he got all condescending and sarcastic, telling the cabbie " Oh really? I can't believe it's going to be 99 in July."

Suddenly, he's able to understand local seasonal weather, something that's too complicated for him all winter.

Funniest moment of the show, until the old lady called in, worried that her Social Security check might not come if an agreement on the debt ceiling isn't reached.

A completely indoctrinated dittohead, claiming that she'll lose everything and be on the street if her government check doesn't come.

        These people amaze me.

I think the only reason you think the heat index is a hoax is because to believe it, you actually need to step outside.

The difference might not be noticeable to somebody like Rush, who's walking around in his own personal heat dome. I mean, even if he were to walk outside, which I would guess doesn't happen very often.

If you're inclined to think that Rush might have some facts on his side, read the whole article. Or, if you want more ammo to fight against his ridiculous assertions, read the article too.

The heat wave that affected at least 200 million people in the United States during the past week and a half has finally subsided, but not before shattering or tying thousands of records. The geographic extent of the heat wave was highly unusual, with temperatures of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or greater and heat indices much higher than that stretching from Texas to North Dakota, and eastward all the way to Maine.

This one will long be remembered for its widespread scope, high humidity levels, and dangerously warm nighttime low temperatures that remained above 80 F in many locations.

Nationally, 1,966 daily high maximum temperature records have been broken or tied so far this month (through July 23). Sixty-six of those records were all-time maximum temperature records.More impressive, however, are the figures for highest minimum temperature records. Because of the extremely high humidity levels during this heat wave, a whopping 4,376 record highest minimum temperature records were broken or tied through July 23. Of those minimum temperature records, 158 were all-time records.

In many ways, this heat wave exemplified the type of extreme heat events that climate science studies show are becoming more common in many parts of the world, likely due at least in part to manmade emissions of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide. Studies of specific extreme heat events, such as the deadly 2003 European heat wave and last summer’s heat wave and wildfires in Russia, have demonstrated that they were also associated with unusually large, intense high-pressure systems.

In most states on the East Coast, their temperature records go back forever - it is something to break a record high or an all time record high or a record minimum low after all these years of recording temps!

I don't remember seeing any appreciable amount of climate change stories last week. There were a lot about the weather being so hot.

On the other hand, there is this:

      http://environment.nationalgeographic.com/environment/global-warming/big-thaw/

      And this:

      http://www.theage.com.au/environment/climate-change/us-finds-massive-melt-at-greenland-ice-sheet-20110629-1gr2l.html

      And this:

Rush may be able to preach to the willfully ignorant for a few more years, but it won't be more than that. He'd better prepare to fall back to a second and a third prepared line of defense.

Notice Rush did not say where he got his info from. He just says no records were broken and you have to believe it because he says so.

The Associated Press reported 1,279 locations tied or broke daytime records this month while 3,128 night time highs were tied or broken.

      Too funny
Record cold and snowfall = that’s just weather stupid not the climate, or record cold is also climate change.
Record heat = see I told you so we’re all going to die!

Rush said that there was nothing remarkable about the recent heat wave. There is, in fact, and so he was wrong.

One can't link any one weather event, definitively, to climate change, but one can say that well-founded ideas about global climate change support the idea that events like this will happen with more frequency as our planet warms.

Oh, and no one said "record heat = see, I told you so, we're all going to die,", or anything like that.

No, basically what's being said here is "since the right has used snowfalls in the past to push their agenda that global warming is not happening (hell some were even talking about global cooling), now that we have a heatwave, what are they going to say about that?

Rush answered that question, by suddenly understanding that localized weather patterns aren't determinative of global warming. That is something that people here have been citing to global warming and climate change deniers from day 1.

To put it simply, by doing this Rush already did what everyone opposed to climate change denial has done. Using their own argument, logical fallacy and all, to show them that what they claim is BS. Record snowfalls aren't indicative of climate change any more than record heat waves (the explanations for both within the context of climate change is more complex than simply saying having one or the other means that climate change is/is not happening) are. The right has been pushing the record snowfall line for a long time now.

No one opposing them is saying that record heatwaves prove that global warming and climate change is happening, but it shows that the claim of climate change deniers using "snowfall logic" is bull.

With all respect, while climate change and warming trends are calculated based on overall global averages, local record snowfalls can be explained by climate change. Melting of the polar ice caps and glaciers in various parts of the world helps release more moisture into the atmosphere. More moisture under locally cold conditions means more snowfall. The right-wing fallacy that Limpy and the rest like to spew is that libruls are somehow claiming climate change means the entire world is, right now, instantaneously going to become a scorching desert and all seasonal changes are going to immediately disappear.

Limbaugh is setting the table for his rant against the media for accusing Breivik of being a right winger. I am sure by tommorow he will expand on that rant to include the carnage in Norway.

There is no other way to explain what happened in Norway other than Breivik was a right wing neo-Christian, xenophobic, with an availabilty to guns. Period.
