Bill comes off like a complete idiot in this segment. The lady broke it down where a child could understand her point. Bill played dumb because he wants us to believe Muslims are the only terrorist who kill in the name of their religion.
The Norman killer made it clear his christian faith was behind his spree. Bill was not trying to hear that. Bill wants to vilify Muslins and Islam.

What really annoys the hell out of me about O'Reilly is that while he may not blatantly lie like this as often as a Hannity or a Beck, when he gets caught in a lie, he really doubles down like a motherf-cker, regardless of how easily provable the lie. Remember his crusade against John Edwards' stats of homelessness among veterans?

He's hysterical. Completely blinded by his own bigotry.

I honestly don't understand this "questioning peoples' religion ( when it's convenient) nonsense.

Religion is simply an opinion. There's absolutely no way to know if anybody is really of the faith they say they are. Everybody could be lying. It's one of those things where it's generally pretty safe to take somebody at their word.

Motive, BilldO ? Why would this guy claim to be a Christian if he wasn't ? He doesn't seem wishy-washy or non-committal.

It's funny that he's got this whole "He doesn't go to church" thing going on. Last time I checked, no where in the bible does it say you HAVE to go to church.

Also, he is bigoted towards people who practice Islam. He's completely writing off any person who's done horrible things as not "being Christine" because "Jesus didn't tell them to do it", but anyone who's Muslim did it because "they think God told them too".

Last time I checked, Islam and Christianity worship the same God. So... Doesn't God trump Jesus?

You are correct. There is no Biblical edict to "go to church." The "Church" is the entire body of believers. What the Bible says is that we are not to "forsake the fellowship." Man has interpreted that to mean going to the building down on the corner of First & Main on Sundays and Wednesdays.

Muslim kills people - maybe not a good Muslim, but still a Muslim.

And BilldO, if somebody refers to Jesus as "Our Lord", it's not really necessary to add " I <3 Jesus Our Lord!", it's sort of implied and obvious to anybody who's not thrashing around in denial, you blithering old simpleton.

      From the Document.no

"I myself am a Protestant and baptized / confirmed to me by my own free will when I was 15.
But today's Protestant church is a joke. Priests in jeans who march for Palestine and churches that look like the minimalist shopping centers. I am a supporter of an indirect collective conversion of the Protestant church back to the Catholic. In the meantime, I vote for the most conservative candidates in church elections. The only thing that can save the Protestant church is to go back to basics."

Montanabuddha, that was easy enough. All anyone has to do is read his epic manifesto. But nobody on Fox or watching will bother to read through 1500 pages---they have an aversion to big hefty reads--like legislation and such. So in the right wing's closed loop information system they can report whatever they want and no one will contradict them.
The simple truth is that this assassin has provided proof exposing the toxic influence of the worst of the wingnut propagandists and fearmongers--most of whom have been featured on Fox News. They are now twisting themselves into knots trying to unravel themselves from tacid complicity that they created.

It would be like somebody who bears false witness ( "there's no evidence"),or indulges in sins like wrath ( F-it WE'LL DO IT LIVE!!!") Lust ( Loofahs & sexual harrassment), Pride ( HIghest rated cable news network) Envy ( wants to be treated like an actual journalist) sloth ( failure to fact check), greed (promoting politics that benefit him at the expense of the suckers in his audience), or sloth ( too lazy to fact check) claiming to be a Christian.

How can you say that billo is a christian? As AK pointed out above he does not follow any of the beliefs of being a christian. All his trolls call themselves christian so billo just plays up to them. A good christian does not ware his religion on his sleeve they just quietly help the less fortunate and live a good life. This concept is totally lost on the corporate owned republicans and baggers. All they show is hate for their fellow man. They prevent a family from not having children that they can't afford because they love the unborn. After the child is born is when their hatred begins by doing away with every food, health and educational program there is. If you are elderly they want to do away with SS, Medicare and Medicade which means doing away with the elderly. As stated on fox yesterday " if we didn't have all these social programs we would have much more money for war!" Just that statement alone shows what the corporate owned republican baggers, fox and right wing hate radio is all about. They want the US military to be the the private army of their corporate owners.

Yet people like Bill O'Reilly and many others on Fox/talk radio willingly and with glee condemn Islam for the actions of a few. You're right, all of Christianity shouldn't be condemned for the acts of one man. But neither should Islam be condemn for the actions of a few. And remember, this Norwegian isn't the only Christian "terrorist" out there (I use quotes only because it is such a loaded word and thrown around so easily that it's really starting to lose any and all meaning). The man who killed Dr. Tiller instantly springs to mind. Or the man responsible for the Atlanta Olympics bombing (as well as several abortion clinics). There are terrorists on all sides, in all religions. No religion should be condemned as a whole because of these people, but it would be irresponsible not to point out that these people are killing in the name of religion.

So to better answer your question... "Why does it matter if he was "Christian" or not?" Because if he was a Muslim, it would matter, so it should matter now.

What is important is O'Reilly's refusal to accept the man's claim to Christianity.

As a Christian myself I find Breivik's claim to Christian belief offensive, but then I also find O'Reilly's claim equally offensive. The reality is that by definition all Christians are imperfect in their practice and there are many who pervert the dicta of Jesus to suit their own purpose.

Being a Christian does not preclude doing evil and O'Reilly's wilful refusal to accept that is a form of hubris, while his propagation of it in his broadcasting is a wilful act of dishonesty - I know that my Jesuit teachers would frown on that and demolish any attempt at self justification.

Who's condemning all Christianity because of him? All religion can be perverted, any act can be justified using such rationalizations. That's part of the downside of organized faith.

This sort of thing plays exactly into what I've said for years about Muslims;if the roles were reversed, if Christians were the ones in the sociopolitical environment of the Middle East, then there would be just as much terrorism coming from them as there is from Muslims. This is because, as I said, you can use any religion to rationalize violence. The problem is that some people don't want to admit this. They want to pretend that Christians are inherently good people, as opposed to all those Muslims who accept the violence in the Qu'ran.

These are people who either haven't read the Old Testament, or who can't admit the nature of it, of course.
