Bill Nye is trying to inject a little bit of sanity into the Fox insanity and I applaud him for that. However, I'm not sure it's going to do any good.

I found it sad and depressing, however, that Nye had to cover is rear several times, such as when he said that "the world is getting smaller" then had to explain that he meant the ease of communication and travel, because he knew that the Fox idiots would leap on this "the world is getting smaller" claim and then ignore the what he meant and try to show that the diameter of the Earth is unchanged and that Nye doesn't know what he's talking about.

I wish Nye had a lot more time to explain things in great detail and debunk all the lies coming out of Fox, but they quickly sweep him off the air whenever he talks sense...

Yeah, at first I was impressed with Fox letting him back on and giving him a chance to educate the viewers, but you quickly see that the Fox news host had an agenda full of dumb questions to bog down the discussion and change it back into the politicization of science and climate.

They don't want Bill Nye to educate their viewers. I just wish Bill hadn't used the second half of the interview to scientifically vindicate Al Gore's statement. I guess Bill thought he would have a little more time to explain these concepts to the Fox viewer, but I suppose he isn't too familiar with the new sensational media format. Unless you have a celebrity murder case or abducted white girl to talk about, you're lucky to get one full segment.

In a court of law a list of 35 errors in Al Gore’s film “An Inconvenient Truth” was submitted to prevent the students from being indoctrinated with Climate Change falsehoods. In the interest of saving time the judge agreed to hear the arguments on ten random falsehoods. The judge found in favor of the plaintiff and ordered that if the falsehoods were discussed in class, then the truth had to be presented as well.

I agree. I was surprised that Mr. Nye fell into that trap. They cannot argue the science, so they confuse the issue with a non-science attack on Al Gore. Have you ever read comments on a climate change article where some one did not attack climate change by bringing up Al Gore?

Actually, they can argue the science. Poorly, of course.

Off-the-Mark Levin argued that some "scientists" don't believe the earth is warming at all; some believe it is, but it is not caused by humans.

This is, of course, a self-defeating argument, because the two groups exclude each other.

Well, he was asked a direct question on it. If he were to ignore or just dismiss it, it would have turned the audience off to his message in general. I thought he did a fine job of explaining of how Gore could've come to the statement in question.

I mean, you can really see what made Nye a great educational host. In my opinion, he has his kid gloves on. I loathe to paint all of FOX's viewers in such an arrogant way (I think calling of all FOX's viewers equivalent to children is just a tad arrogant on my part), but it really looks like he is dealing with fussy children.

Nye did an excellent job responding to the Gore clip that Fox wanted to make hay from. Rendered it moot. He was calm, polite, kept it simple..completely un-Fox.

The explanation was: the science, based on facts, makes something apparent. If one still believes otherwise, that belief is based on emotion.

Racism: based on emotion. Climate-change denial: based on emotion.

        Fox Network: based on emotion.

Personally, I don't think anyone who is in their right mind should ever agree to go on Fox. Nye is valiant in his attempt to educate, but he may as well try to educate a soapdish, he'll have about the same success.

On the other hand, if every scientist, educator, or what have you approached by Fox flatly refused to go on that miserable excuse for a news network, eventually Fox would have no way to say they were representing "both sides". Everything and everyone affiliated with that network has one agenda in mind. Don't be part of it.

If educated people refused to go on Fox, Fox News would simply close in on itself and use that as evidence that educated people are elitist snobs not worth listening to, and then just continue to parlay their insane views, like global warming causing volcanoes on the moon, uncontested. And if there's anything we've learned about Fox News and their viewers over the years, it's that, in their minds, the less contested their wacky views are, the stronger the truth in them.

When my daughter was younger, she loved watching Bill Nye. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it with her as Bill has the ability that so few have of taking complex scientific ideas and reducing their complexity to the level where even children can understand complex, abstract scientific ideas.

It's humorous to watch him here on Fox News, where he seems completely flustered that he is unable to dumb it down enough for Fox News viewers and reporters to understand.

It's good to have a news outlet that actually has debate in their programming. Compare that to the likes of Olbermann who never debated anyong on his show and I doubt his new show is any different.

"It's still confusing to some of the viewers."

Bill Nye was the host of a children's show. Fox doesn't seem to think much of the intelligence of their viewers.

      The best summary

Bill Nye: I have this scientific data that says the Earth is warming.

Fox Host: I heard from ONE guy that it's only gotten warmer by 1 degree in 100 years.... I'm going to him for his word.

      Science or Hearsay....

      I'll take SCIENCE.

Some guy on the news: What happened to all the hurricanes we were supposed to get?

Bill Nye: They haven't happened yet. And besides, global warming also means fewer hurricanes. Trust me, it's science and I'm a scientist.

Viewer: Hmmm, host of a kids show being interviewed by an investment banker about climate. What channel has the ballgame?

That is just classic: More hurricanes is global warming -- and FEWER hurricanes are ALSO global warming! Two for the price of one! And folks wonder why this "science" causes skepticism?

Just wondering though: How come some extreme weather (like hurricanes and heat waves) is global warming and other extreme weather (ice storms and, you know, winter) is "just weather," which as we all know isn't the same as climate?

Love Bill Nye, wish his show was around when I was a kid.

But, the big question: Why does Fox have an investment guy anchoring a show in which weather phenomena are discussed?

I was almost expecting, "But Bill, but Bill... when you go out in the rain, it makes you cold! It cools you off, you're less hot, Bill. Can't explain that."

All news media should tap people like Bill Nye more. He has such a calm, fun way of explaining things in a way that is hard to misunderstand, and his plain language, civil tone, and bow-tie so effectively defuse political rancor (at least for a minute).

Why are they having a guy at Fox who admits that he doesn't even know that the earths' temperature is getting warmer, debating Bill Nye the Science guy? Is it because Fox wanted to get this Gore comment in there and they needed a black guy to do it for them?

Hmmm, I wonder why MM did not present the other weather expert, Joe Bastardi , who was featured on O'Reilly's show last night. I guess that is because JB presented historical data to support his view that GW is bunk. I guess MM doesn't want both sides of a story to be presented. That is quite clear as a matter of fact.

Oh, Traveller/Changedname, where are you? Only Kidney Bean has contributed a pointless statement. Don't you have something to say about the latest hurricane or Al Gore or something else that you can't back up?

Bill Nye on AGAIN? Did a producer finally give up and pull his finger out of the dike holding back science and start to let it trickle in? Why?

Hysterical....they keep bringing him on because they think they can mess with him and make the very idea of global warming seem goofy. After all, how could anyone who explains science TO KIDS be able to hold his own against the FNC Einsteins? But then, he wipes the floor with them, and they have to fall back on the "Al Gore says we're like racists if we don't believe in global warming! What do you say to THAT, Mr. Smarty-Pants!?" Completely off-topic, and he fell right into their trap. However, I suspect this was the last time we'll be seeing BN on FNC.

I agree, except that he did not fall into their trap. He saw the trap (denier = racist), sidestepped it (doggie/science analogy), left them slack-jawed. That makes him a hero.

Scientific conclusions are not meant to be complicated. They are meant to be obvious. That's part of the beauty of science. Explaining it such that all understand it takes some skill, and Nye is one who thankfully has it. Another such hero is Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Most warming ''debunkers'' cannot carry on a discourse on the complexities involving global warming mostly because they don't understand it and use braggadocio to cover that fact, rather than listening and learning (when I was a teacher, I called it L&L time) As a result, much like the news man for FAUX interrupts and doesn't let Mr. Nye get in a word edgewise~~ is exactly what happens anytime a 'discussion' is held with fanatics from the right ~~they choose to remain ignorant and self-satisfied

Climate change deniers simply ignore the easily verifiable facts that yes, the ice caps and glaciers are melting, the ocean levels are rising, and the average global temperature is rising.

It's true that all of the causes are not totally clear and it's probably more complex than anyone yet believes. That doesn't change the facts. Denying facts is not only stupid, but dangerous.

Wow, A long time ago they said the world was flat and now we know it is not. Just when did we actually know it wasn't? When we sailed all the way around and didn't fall off. Now someone said that there is global warming so how do we know it is true? How about your own personal experience..eh? Yes I mean anyone who has paid attention to the world around them knows there are drastic changes to the climate just in the last 30, 20 or even ten years. To say otherwise shows me you are not paying attention. That's okay you don't have to. There are those who have dedicated their lives to the science of it. Can you tell what is wrong with your refrigerator when it quits or your washer? Maybe but how about if you suddenly don't have electricity? Now what if you could predict when your refrigerator was going to have a problem? Think of all the steaks you could save from spoiling. The conversations on global warming and all the studies are for just that purpose. So one day we don't wake up or our children don't wake up and find that our world is dying because we did something we shouldn't have done and it is too late to fix it. I hope it makes a little more sense and while you think about it remember their are those out there who don't care about what happens tomorrow as long as they get what they want today.

So explain what's changed in the climate? Are you saying it is hotter than it was 30,40 or 50 years ago? That there are more hurricanes than before, more cold winters? Well I hate to disappoint you but you are totally wrong. Every one of the these climate events are cyclical. It has been hotter in the summer in decades past. There have been snow in July in the United States 1936 still holds the record temps for the north west. More than 20 hurricanes have hit the eastern seaboard in the 20th century alone. 28 struck in the 18th century. Are you telling me that man made global warming caused all of that? The dust bowl days of the 1930s were much worse than the drought we are now experiencing in the midwest. As a matter of fact there is ia scientific consensus that believes the government, yes our government was responsible for the 1930s drought. The word is NOT dying and your panicing is not going to change that fact.

Show us your sources. Any blogs on your list?

After you fail at that, will you stick around and make more useless comments? Why do you ask your own useless questions that nobody asked? To win an argument with yourself?

You seem to have loads of data on hurricanes. Point us to the frequency and intensity of each, and the time-series analysis of them. While you're at it, show the time-series analysis of CO2 concentration, global temperature, and ocean temperature.

Ooh, and please define "climate event." I'd like to add that one to the denier lexicon. And please explain these "climate event" cycles.

Oh, and please explain the Carbon Cycle.

And when scientists speak of Global Warming, to what are they referring?

What is science for, Kidney Bean? Go ahead, google to your heart's desire. Have an answer?

I have sources that refer to verifiable conclusions. You don't. I can refer to explanations and consensus that lead to sensible conclusion, based on sound methodology that has been reviewed by peers. What do you have, other than what you dream up? I have facts and reliable studies for you. You have emotional BS.

And get your history right. You just said that man caused drought in the 30's, just what you said man can't do. Go back and figure out the difference between the terms "Dust Bowl" and "drought" fer godsake.
