Yeah, typical Rush, what does it say about the collection of wife-beating, car crash porn watching, meth smoking, inbred, violent, racist, provincial, freak-show rejects that make up a typical NASCAR audience?

What kind of people boo the First Lady? Especially a First Lady who has remained out of politics and done her best not to make waves? DO you think people like Rush who exist to dehumanize people like Michelle Obama to the drooling evolutionary dead ends that comprise the NASCAR audience?

Hey, I'm sure there's some decent human beings who go to NASCAR events, but they get drowned out by the hordes of hateful idiots who would boo a lovely and gracious mother of two, like our First Lady.

It's not because she was "uppity"... it's because they are low-brow hillbilly scum.

Please, show me where she said that your parenting sucks.

Don't get mad at her because she wants to start an initiative to get your kids off of potato chips and twinkies for breakfast. Don't get mad at her because her parenting makes you look like the Manson family.

No such word as "upityism" but that Rush could not find a word insulting enough about Michelle Obama is par for the course for him. The poor overweight thing is no doubt so insanely jealous of the slim figures of both of the Obamas that he resorts to this childish insulting of our bright and accomplished first lady. Poor Rush is such a cad and does not represent our party at all well. I

The line he did cross was the one denoting him as a cad. Poor thing seems insanely jealous of the slim, trim Obamas. But for him to stoop to picking on Mrs. Obama shows just what a disgusting cad Rush truly is. Please note folks, I am a Republican but this sort of boorish behavior out of Rush in no way represents my beliefs as to what is acceptable behavior and in fact, it is truly and totally unGodly!

The funny part of this is that it's mentioned often that similar words are code for "uppity", and the wingnuts respond with their usual" That's crazy/race card/ prove it!" BS.

I wonder if any of them will go the "media tweak" route with this one.

I doubt that. If she got booed at a NASCAR race, it had much more to do with the overwhelming ratio of Troglodytes to regular people in the NASCAR audience.

Let's be honest... NASCAR is mostly a White Southern Male phenomenon.

I don't know.....getting booed by a group of people who think it's "great entertainment" to watch cars drive in a circle makes a fairly profound statement about the audience, nothing more. The wingnut ideology and agenda really can't get any more clear. The winguts are anti-intelligence, anti-decency, anti-patriotism, and proudly display their bigotry and ignorance like badges of honor.

The vast majority of NASCAR wrecks happen because a driver failed to turn left.

            "How'd Jimmy crash?"
"He wuz goin' too fast ta turn left!"

            "How'd Jeff crash?"

Actually, the vas majority of NASCAR wrecks happen because a car turns too much to the left. When the driver turns the wheel, the back tires break loose which causes the car to oversteer, and they spin out.

I hadn't listened to the clip earlier, but there's another good laugh in there. Lispy is claiming that one of the thing the hillbillies don't like is "the waste" involved with the president and first lady taking separate planes... as the crowd is preparing to watch a bunch of cars drive in circles for a few hours.

You are a LIAR. The Dixiecrats no longer exist and they mostly became republicans. You are a punk still clinging onto a stupid talking point. One destroyed when you look at the breakdown by region of the votes for the Civil Rights Act

          The original House version:
          Southern Democrats: 7–87 (7%–93%)
          Southern Republicans: 0–10 (0%–100%)
          Northern Democrats: 145-9 (94%–6%)
          Northern Republicans: 138-24 (85%–15%)

          The Senate version:
          Southern Democrats: 1–20 (5%–95%)
          Southern Republicans: 0–1 (0%–100%)
          Northern Democrats: 45-1 (98%–2%)
          Northern Republicans: 27-5 (84%–16%)

Note that in EVERY REGION a higher percentage of Dems than Republicans voted FOR the Civil rights act of 1964

Limpy may actually be right about this. I'm sure all those NASCAR fans who boo'd think just like he does. It's pretty weird to hear a first lady being boo'd though. And make no mistake it was booing. They played it on the news last night and acted like they couldn't be sure but it was obvious that a good part of the crowd was booing.

Hard to say, though It's clear that the irrational hatred of Michelle Obama has a lot to do with the daily dehumanization of her husband, and that much of that daily dehumanization has been race-based.

I wouldn't be surprised if half the NASCAR audience still think he's a Kenyan National with a fake American birth certificate, and a secret Muslim agent ready to lock up normal Americans in FEMA work camps so he can institute "Sharia Law".

He misses the point of course.

This kind of "proud redneck" behavior is a recently returned phenomenon that started in the 90s with the proliferation of hate radio, the rise of the religious right, and the consolidation of corporate media.

Back in the pre-civil rights era, lack of education and the isolation of rural life might have provided something of an excuse, but nowadays these "proud southern men" have I-phones, satellite television, and exposure to other people and other cultures. This is a regression.

I don't think any liberal group would "boo" Laura Bush or Nancy Reagan. Conservatives back in the day wouldn't have boo'd Rosaline Carter.

This isn't just about hateful NASCAR fans and Michelle Obama, this is about the tone of irrational hate and constant dehumanization of anyone "other" that runs rampant in the south.

Did boxtop bring up Nixon in order to highlight his southern strategy?

              By Marker,

A while back I read a biography about Pat Nixon, it was written by her daughter, Julie Nixon Eisenhower. To be honest, personally and politically; I detested Richard Nixon.

But, I loved reading her daughter's biography of her mother. "Plastic Pat" was a human being, and a wonderful one at that. I was happy to read her daughter's biography.

I was very glad that I read this biography. Pat Nixon was a good solid woman, who raised two lovely daughters.

She worked hard her whole life under difficult circumstances.
Although, I am still ashamed of the Nixon Administration, I will never be ashamed of the way the Nixon family handled it.

No, Mrs. Nixon took an official government plane assigned to the First Family, just like the first family of most other modern presidential families.

Mrs. Nixon may have worn a cloth coat, but not aware that it was a "republican" coat. It was a fashionable coat for the time period in which it was worn. As for the dog, the dog was a registered Cocker Spaniel, a popular dog during that time period. Not sure what that has to do with anything, though. Most of Mrs. Obama's casual clothing is from JH Collectibles, a moderate priced line of clothing.

Cindy McCain's outfit, including jewelry, for the 2008 Republican National Convention, was over $300,000. Just a nice respectable republican outfit, huh?

Thank you for pointing that out about Cindy McCain. You point out the blatant hypocrisy of republicans.

I'm pretty sure Laura Bush wore some fancy threads as well. Not that it matters to me what any First Lady wears, but apparently the republican media zombies are keeping score, and as expected, they aren't keeping score with any consistency.

You elitist liberals just don't get it. Rush merely said that Michelle Obama exhibited "uppity-ism." He didn't actually refer to her as uppity. Therefore, this "joke" is not a racist smear.

We should give boxy some credit. It's not every Republican who can recognize sarcasm after having it clearly labeled for them.

Imagine the pride that boxy feels every time he gets to go to McDonalds, and as he sits and opens the box and takes the first bite of that double quarter pounder, his eyes narrow, his lip twitches, and he says, "Heyyyy...wait a minute. We're at McDonalds!"

Lolz. Thanks for that image, cracking me up. There is something with the wingnut brain that's so childish, almost cartoonish, it needs things to be so obvious , such a great amount of explanation, and very literal.

I used the term "cartoonish", and it reminded me of something I used to get a laugh out of as a kid. Do you remember how the Flintstones would be going to Jellystone Park, and they'd pull up to the huge monument sign that said "Jellystone Park", pull the car right up to it at a complete stop, and Fred would say " Jellystone Park. This must be the place!". This is what right wingers need.

I also remember a commercial or movie once that had a family on a road trip. There was a long shot of their car crossing the Golden gate Bridge, and dad's voice-over saying " Here we are ! California!"

Now, they would have been in California for hundreds of miles whether they were coming from Nevada or Oregon, but the image was designed so even box could get it.

He referred to one of the items here as a "non-issue" that, according to his tastes, should not have been featured at this site. I referred to this comment in another post, re-phrasing it as donut suggesting we should be ignoring the issue.

At that point, the principal got on the loudspeaker and announced that anyone seen playing with clackers in school would have them confiscated. They also sent home a note to the parents to tell them how evil and dangerous Clackers were. Le sigh.

                    Don't be a whiny fool.

We would have probably busted your chops a little in good humor for getting a location from a classic cartoon show wrong, all in good fun.

We do the same toward each other, whether you realize it or not (you'd know if you read the whole comment thread).

But mainly we pounce all over right wingers who repeat debunked talking points, made up statistics, easily proven lies, or have basic facts about their premise factually wrong. There is a decidedly different tone for those kinds of inaccuracies.

If you can't see the difference, then you're just playing the victim card like so many of the contemporary republican pundits and corporate sponsored politicians.

Limbaugh: "And [NASCAR people] remember being called bitter clingers!"

Obama: "You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

Do "NASCAR people" mind that Rush Limbaugh just conflated them with communities that haven't seen jobs in 25 years? Is that what defines a "NASCAR person"?

"This a guy who brags about his fleet of $500,000 automobiles, brags about the multimillion-dollar compound he owns..."

He would probably brag about his over the top consumerism employs so many people. He is supporting the lower class who would not have jobs without it.
However, what he won't talk about; is putting several hundred people out of work because of his over the top contract. Limbaugh is not worth his salary, and unless you have discovered the cure for cancer, nobody is.

The truly secure in their success and wealth don't feel the need to advertise their success,or wealth. They are the first ones up to help talented, intelligent people develop and support them in that endeavor. They develop leaders; Limbaugh develops spawn

Limbaugh is a small, insecure man who grasps at the props .(large expensive homes, expensive automobiles, a personal jet) to prove his own need for self-importance.

As my son would say "He is a poser, not a chief."

Cool - I thought that what the fans did was pretty classless (honestly, I think no matter how bad a president is - see Dubya - they are entitled to some basic respect for the office from the general public. You don't have to love the person, but a respectful applause isn't much to ask for if a president appears at a major sporting event).

But now that you've supplied the reason why they did that, I guess that makes what they did OK?

Michele Obama and Jill Biden aren't politicians, but the classy NASCAR fans can overlook this fact and boo them anyway. What a proud day for them, fueled as they are with beer and racist fumes.

Why don't you just scream the word you really want to use, Rush? Scream it at the top of your lungs. You'll feel better, and nobody has any doubt about what you really meant, anyway.

      So go for it.

Why does Rush keep saying "We" don't like this, and "We" don't like that, as if he could count himself among "mature, tolerant people" or "mature, tolerant NASCAR people"??

It is absolutely laughable that Rush Limbaugh thinks that he is qualified to roll his rich fat a$$ up to the desk with the mic on it and proceed to talk this sh!t as if he is the example of the average American and can speak for them with his "We's".

The truth of the matter is that whenever Rush detects anger or disapproval from the American people towards a person or subject, he latches onto it vise-like with both lips and sucks it out for all it is worth, engendering as much additional anger and hatred as he possibly can.

Because THAT is truly what Rush Limbaugh is all about. It is what he does and it is how he makes his living.

Without his unique personal talent of that vise-like lip lock, for sucking it out for all it's worth, for engendering serious anger and hatred in his listeners, he would be just another lunchtime drive shock jock with a mediocre shtick.

Like all self inflated shock jocks without filters, Rush will be the demise of himself.
The sooner the better for America.

Yes, it will hurt your brain and inflict deep injury to your psyche.
It is detrimental to the psychological well being of any and all who dare to venture therein.
It is shocking, isn't it when you realize what your exposure to all that darkness has/is doing to you inside?

This is exactly why I listened to Rush once 25+ years ago and never listened to him again until I listened to one of the clips of his show here on MMFA a few months ago.

After listening to about 10 or 11 clips, I found myself being systematically infused with that same dark anger and ugly vitriol Rush is so copiously cursed with.
Same thing happens from exposure to Glennis The Menace.
          And The Blaze.
          And Fox Nation.

David Frum: Fox News Blacklisted Me Following Rush Limbaugh Criticisms

Conservative pundit David Frum contends that he was blacklisted from Fox News after criticizing Rush Limbaugh in 2009. (h/t Inside Cable News)

Frum made the charge in a piece for New York magazine. Back in 2009, he authored an article for Newsweek "arguing that Republicans would regret conceding so much power to Rush Limbaugh." According to Frum, he had been a frequent contributor on Fox News but "some kind of fatwa was laid down" on him following his Newsweek article.
4 Page Article: (Why Rush is Wrong Mar 6, 2009 7:00 PM EST
The party of Buckley and Reagan is now bereft and dominated by the politics of Limbaugh. A conservative's lament.)

Frum wrote that producers would call to book him on a segment. He then described the "embarrassed second call" he would receive, in which those same producers would call him back to say they had decided to go "'in a different direction.'"

Frum has since become a fierce critic of Fox News. Most famously, he said in 2010 that "Republicans originally thought that Fox worked for us, and now we are discovering we work for Fox."

Frum's wife, Danielle Crittenden is currently a managing editor with HuffPost Canada.

Are you still on this idiocy punk? You are disgustingly stupid. I would guess the reason they booed is they are just as stupid, just as brainwashed and just as mindless as you are.

I could explain the context of a remark like that from a black woman growing up on the sixties and seventies but really what would be the point? You are stupid and you only think what you are told to think so why waste my time?

        You're an idiot.

Unlike you and your ilk, who walk around with undeserved bluster and swagger, Michelle Obama has a reason to be ashamed of her country.

Being ashamed of something doesn't mean that you don't love it. It means that you love it enough to be dissapointed when it fails to live up to your expectations. Michelle Obama and her husband are patriots in the true sense of the term - they dont walk around saying "America, right or wrong!" They say (in the spirit of Carl Schurz) "America, when right to be kept right, and when wrong, to be set right."

They believe in an EARNED exceptionalism, one that is derived from proving that we deserve to be called the leaders of the free world. It is not an exceptionalism that is based on some undeserved idea of superiority.

But you wouldnt understand that because you're a jingo.

Michelle Obama is ashamed of the US? What she said was that she was never proud of it. She wasn't proud when we liberated Kuwait. She wasn't proud when first responders gave their lives to save others on 9/11. She was never proud of the 360,000 Union soldiers who died in the Civil war. She wasn't proud when we won the cold war. She wasn't proud when America is first in line to help around the world when there is a major disaster. I have many reasons to be proud of my country. I'm proud of my country when I see someone help a little old lady get her groceries to her car. I'm proud of my country when I see someone help a family who has had a tragedy hit them. It's not about being exceptional. It's about being good people. I'm sorry Michelle Obama, and I assume you, have never felt that.

You can assume all you want, but you would assume wrongly.

For every reason that you listed, there are plenty more reasons that we should be ashamed to call ourselves "the land of the free"

"What she said was that she was never proud of it..." --from the person who uses the name of a German tank.

Noting that she never said she was never proud of her country what has she done that has not confirmed her patriotism? What else do you have other than an out of context quote taken at least 3 yrs. ago that proves that Mrs. Obama is not proud of her country? Tell me were you proud when Republican members of congress held hostage payments and treatments to those 9/11 responders. Where you proud when our government lied to those 9/11 responders about the safety of the air and conditions at 9/11?

"...The same miscreants then blocked legislation to provide financial compensation for the nation’s first responders who were exposed to toxic ash at the 9/11 attacks and had to seek medical treatment. The Senate voted 57–42 to provide health care. But the No Compassion Party, which had already spewed millions of words about how they are more patriotic than anyone else, won by threatening a filibuster that ended any help to firefighters, police officers, and the thousands of volunteers who risked their lives to save others..."

"...This has meant rubbing shoulders and forging alliances with outright white supremacists and far-right theocrats, particularly those who dominate the proceedings at such gatherings as the North American Secessionist conventions, which AIP delegates have attended in recent years. The AIP’s affiliation with neo-Confederate organizations is motivated as much by ideological affinity as by organizational convenience. Indeed, Chryson makes no secret of his sympathy for the Lost Cause. “Should the Confederate states have been allowed to separate and go their peaceful ways?” Chryson asked rhetorically. “Yes. Do you get the same thrill of patriotism when Faux and other conservatives like you call the ederly living off SS(which they paid into)and paying taxes other than Federal taxes that they are not paying their fair share and are living off the government? Do you get the trill of your phony patriotism when those who fought the Great War against fascism and now in their golden years are called burdens on society and are threatened with the elimination of programs that keep them out of poverty because they are the 47-48% who pay no taxes(conservative disinformation). Get off your "leave it to beaver" fantasy and back to reality. No matter how many individuals may do the right thing what really makes a difference in a country this big moving into the 21st century is when that individual compassion is translated into governmental programs of compassion. Cutting services to the poor and elderly is not patriotic nor comnpassionate.

Why is it that no one here on mmfa will admit to being proud of their country? Does something have to be perfect before you can be proud of it? I know America isn't perfect. That doesn't mean I'm not proud of it when it does something good. How is being proud of America when we are at the front of the line to give help when an earthquake devastates Haiti "phony patriotism"?

Is Limbaugh so clueless as to not realize that "uppity" was a perjorative term used by whites in the Jim Crow era south to describe blacks who presumed to rise above their lowly station. It could mean a woman who wanted to become a nurse rather than a nursemaid or a man who wanted to train to be an accountant. Or a black who didn't say sir or ma'am in every third sentence. The term was invented in the south for this very precise and limited usage. I know of no other use. The irony here is that Michelle Obama was condescending to a largely red-neck crowd.
