I thought that Laura and GW were both decent people, or seemed to be, or seem to be now. And as far as average, no, they weren't that either. He was POTUS, and she was FLOTUS. You're not average once you get to the top rung of the ladder. Doesn't matter who you are.

I agree; Barack and Michelle Obama were also in the 1% on election day, 2008. We don't elect "average" people to the highest office in the land. Just stupid- especially coming from a guy who was born to wealth and influence, used that influence to duck the draft and accumulate more wealth and influence, and has never worked a day in his life.

No doubt. Here's the difference though. They absolutely KNOW they're in the top 1%, and, they still want to make things tougher for, themselves.

We don't elect non average folks to POTUS. Some may say, "What about President Bush?" Well, even he wasn't average.

He got an undergrad degree from Yale, got a Master's degree from Harvard (and yes, he was a legacy, but once you're there in both of those schools, they don't just hand out diplomas, a diploma mill is NOT an Ivy League school that's for sure). He came from a very rich and powerful family. GW Bush was and is a very elite member of American society.

Barack Obama is, without a doubt, a very inspiring story. I don't care for the way it's ending, with a very middling, conservative, status quo Presidency, but his personal story is a pretty strong indicator that this is still the land of Opportunity.

Obama's net worth is $10 million.
GW Bush net worth is $26 million.
Rick Santorum net worth is $80 million.
Newt Gingrich net worth is $20 million.
Ron Paul net worth is 4.9 million.

This whole playing golf and eating burgers thing is just a ruse to fool they average citizen who relies on the MSM. But Rushbots know better.

But he's actually mentioning the golf to promote the "fiddling while Rome burns" theme. Sure, it's bullsh*t, Obama has taken fewer days off than recent presidents, but the dittoheads don't know that.

Romney has not played as many rounds of golf as the president, therefore, he's more decent. I mean, as far as we know. There aren't a bunch of lunatics on the radio screaming every time Mitt golfs.

And Mitt Romney hasn't been living like a king off of other peoples' money ? I must be thinking of a different Mitt Romney.

Mitt may be a silver-spoon, born on third base kind of guy, but he still believes in Reaganomics. This puts him closer to the "average" intelligence of Americans than if he were smart enough to notice it's a scam. ( I know, he really knows who it benefits, I'm just playing along, taking him at his word).

Besides, Rush is addressing an audience that, in their wildest dreams, aspires to be average. One of his biggest fans who posts here is constantly bragging to everybody about how average ( I believe he uses the word "normal") he is.

**OK, yes, I'm trying to bait donutluvver. This one is custom-made for him.

It seems to me that believing in Reaganomics believes in heavy spending, heavy borrowing, and big tax increases. It means saying one thing and doing the opposite. I wish every time a candidate for office claimed to support Reagan's policies, they were asked "which ones, the high rate of borrowing or the big tax increases?"

Or maybe the big talk in foreign policy, combined with the cutting and running? Or the respect for the rule of law, hand in hand with the funding of the contras? Or the restoring respect in America's armed forces by refusing to deal with terrorists, while dealing with terrorists? Following Reagan's policies is like negotiating a labrynth of double-speak and hypocrisy.

You're talking about Real-Life Reagan. He doesn't exist, only the cleaned-up, mythical St. Ronald.

And I wasn't even getting into all of his other problems, just the trickle-down VooDoo economics hoax. It was a bad theory 30 years ago, but I could understand some people falling for it.

It's a proven disaster now, there's no excuse. Anybody promoting supply side is a moran or a liar.

Don't forget, Reagan also was head of a *GASP!!!!* UNION!

This alone would disqualify him from running for the office of President under the republican party banner this election cycle.

I wonder, do the chowderheads who keep saying they LOVE Reagan actually know what he did? Because honestly, Reagan was kind of left of Obama.

They love the myth. They love the deeply religious man who was divorced, was estranged from his kids, and never went to church. They love the small government guy who exploded the size of the government. They love the tax-cutter who raised taxes, the guy who spoke against spending while signing huge spending increases. The love the spokesman for the regular, working guy who busted unions. (Ok, they really LOVE the busting unions part.) They love the No Compromise guy who compromised with evil people all over the world.

They love the man who was never there. And the reason they end up disliking all their candidates and Presidents is because they don't live up to the Reagan myth, any more than Reagan could.

I think I'd call that a bullseye, jj. He was really the last Republican who could have been called "likeable". Sure, they wanted to have a beer with regular guy GW Bush, but he's a non-person now, down the memory hole.

Ronnie was an actor and an empty suit, he was able to pull off that amiable, simple grandpa act enough to get some Democratic votes, and he played it while he was in office, but somehow his ghost has been transformed into a great leader and thinker, a man of courage and principles.

If you blindfolded the typical teabagger today and put them in a room with 1980 Real Life Reagan, they'd be screaming " get me out of this room and away from this dirty hippie!!"

Repetition is key. Keep repeating it. People will think it's true eventually. For example, Al Gore invented the internet. I still have to tell people he never said that, but they don't believe me, because you know, Al Gore was a braggart (also not true).

Not the first Simpsons reference I've seen here lately, and that's understandable. Like the Daily Show and Colbert, they address a lot of the idiocy that our mainstream journalists don't seem to see.

That bit is a perfect send-up of typical right wing humor, bravely taking a shot at something that's completely imaginary.

Anti-religious bigotry is as reprehensible as religious bigotry. I know it's painful, but if Romney is the nominee the Democrats must stay away from Romney's religion if it's going to maintain the support of any sincere Progressives.

I've never believed a word of any religion but I've studied many of them. All religions that depend on deities and miracles are irrational and Mormonism is more irrational than most. I feel it's my duty to say that every chance I get. It's not bigotry, it's a public service.

The Obama campaign doesn't need to say anything about it. Rev. Jeffress has already labeled Mormons as not being Christian and said that Christians shouldn't support him. The "base" already KNOWS Romney's religious beliefs. That's why they met and decided to back Gingrich.

Rush, there isn't anything you can tell me about the Obamas, that has been proven or docmumented, that says they aren't decent people. They seem to like each other and they definitely love their daughters who seem well mannered and unaffected by being in a fish bowl. While Mr. and Mrs. Obama are not "average" Americans, they started out that way. The President came from a single parent home, even if he did live in a foreign country and in Hawaii, his experience isn't that far from the average experience of military kids. The First Lady came from a working class home and lost her father early. The two of them worked very hard, using intelligence and academic ability to rise to the highest levels of American political society. If they were White, we would be applauding them for living the American Dream, the self-made individual. But, no, since they are Black, they are indecent, and at the same time both "elitist" and interloopers or mooches because they aren't entitled to be where they are, being Black and all.

Well, they're not average. I wouldn't think ANY POTUS could be considered, average.

They actually, in comparison to Mr. Limbaugh DO seem like decent people. Seem to have a good marriage. Have fun with their kids. Are nice to others. You know, good Christian concepts and all.

I'm not sure where Rush gets this feeling or information that Mr. and Mrs. Obama aren't decent people.

An interesting side note, speaking of Mr. Blimpy-the-Average-American...

Someone has calculated how much Mittens Romneybot makes per speech, and, as it turns out, he and Blimpy are paid about the same amount per hour of bloviating.

That's $50,000, by the way. Per hour. Average Americans, those two.

I wasn't aware that he was locked in. There might be another WalMart tale about that. I'll check for it. The one I saw had the guy talking to customers and employees. It took the store 22 hours to ask him what he was up to.

Rush, we would be happy to discuss and talk about it. However, you are incapable of discussion. You rant. You never listen to anyone who doesn't parrot your ideology. In fact, you marginalize everyone who doesn't parrot your ideology.

1 out of 3 American adults are classified as obese. And one out of 6 children are. The good news though is that this year the rampant rise in obesity has leveled off. Let's hope we can reverse that!

For the kids especially. The job could be easier if the GOP would stop trying to "bring freedom" and bad choices to the schools cafeterias.

I've really wanted to shy away from posting the feelings I have about this man, but Rush Limbaugh is evil incarnate. It is simply futile to repeat Joseph Welch's comment and question: "You've done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?"

Shall we start with "open marriage" Newt? or we could start with . .

Santorum's wife living with an OB/GYN for 5 years before wedded bliss with Rick. This 91 year old man is alive and well today, admits to living with Karen Santorum and thus far, has NOT been denied by Santorum's people . .
