Could it be that your guys keep insulting minorities in general?

I went to a few tea party events here in and around DC. Almost exclusively WHITE. I did see some black guys selling shirts and stuff at one, and they were being harangued by the crowd as being "liberal plants". Yeah, because, you know, they were selling "Don't Tread on Me" t-shirts and not participating.

Do the words "Southern Strategy" ring a bell?

      "Welfare Queen?"

      "Food Stamp President?"

And it wasn't a Democrat who compared children on school lunch programs to animals who breed if you feed them. That was a Republican... yes, it really was.

Maybe the African American community has the impression that the Republicans, in general, are racist a$$holes who don't give a rat's butt about them or their issues.

Can't imagine where they'd get that impression.

Luckily for thinking people, the electorate of republicans is getting really old. They're going to be dying off (Baby Boomers) over the next 10-20 years or less, and hey, then they can really be the minority party of the country. Maybe even libertarians or the green party could get in there more.

As an agnostic who has many Christian family members and friends, I object to the use of the term "Christian values" to describe what these racist, ignorant morons believe. In my world, "Christian values" means feeding the hungry, healing the sick, and bringing hope to the despairing. Of course, one could just as easily and accurately call these "human values."

Too often, in this country "Christian values" has come to mean bigotry, selfishness, tribalism, ignorance, and hate. I refuse to call people who embrace these "values" Christians.

Newt supporter at Newt campaign stop today,

"Just wanted to thank you for putting Juan Williams, and I quote, in his place" referencing the the question Juan asked in the debate about whether Newters comments about food stamps and poor children's work ethic were "intended to belittle the poor and racial minorities."

The only thing this supporter left out was putting that 'uppity' Juan Williams in his place. Newt knows exactly what he's doing and unfortunately its working, at least in South Carolinia. He's desperate to have some kind of showing in SC, and he knows he's got to play to the racists. Really rather sad when you think about it.

I'm suprised that Newt didn't show more professional courtsey to a co-worker. LOL

I saw that earlier. What did you think of newt's reaction, that big pause ? I couldn't tell if he was uncomfortable, thinking " Oh sh*t, she didn't say put him in his place, did she?", or if he was just basking in the glory of his successful dog-whistling, more like " That's it, some of that old-time racist talk!".

Didn't see any quality video, but here's an off-the-tube version

Funny, as I was looking for a clip of it online, I Googled some keywords and that phrase "putting him in his place", and got a surprising number of hits for right wing sites using the same words. I just searched again, and the first hits are more commentary on this incident.

Give me a break! When will these tools realize that the reason most of us don't vote for their politicians is because we're smart enough to know that they don't have our best interests in mind. Most of us laugh at them when we discuss them and their policies because we know that they adamantly refuse to acknowledge that we're more politically astute than they think we are. Why wouldn't we be if you look at our history in this country? Give these folks a U.S. history book!

Brainwashing is evident on the right.

After all they've convinced their voters, a majority of them middle class (and the older generation) to vote for them while promising things against their interests, such as giving more leeway to the rich, scrapping medicare and social services, and getting rid of union rights.

Voting against one's interests isn't considered a rational action by any means, so they are either being coerced, which does noes not seem like it from the avid reactions to the GOP candidates (unless you'd like to claim it was all for show like the grief shown at Kim Jon Il's death by the common people of North Korea), or they've been brainwashed into doing their master's bidding.
