Just saying "food stamp president" does have a racial dimension because of the "welfare queen" rhetoric from decades past... BUT this isn't even dog whistle, this is overt!!!

Newt explicitly says "blacks" when talking about food stamp usage and lack of work ethic. This isn't racial coding... Newt is explicitly (and unfairly) calling blacks lazy and dependent upon "welfare". Unreal.

Newsweek: "why are Obama critics so dumb?" It's very simple.
They are so dumb because they are driven by hate and ignorance.
There is no logic, rationale or reasoning in those who deal in hate (racist).

Then when asked if he was concerned that his comments could be taken as belittling to poor and minority Americans, he gave a very strong no. And was applauded for it.

Because there's obviously nothing belittling in stating that he -- who makes his living jetting around the country and bilking people into paying money to collect the fake business awards he gives out -- will teach poor people how to get a job and how to work for a living.

Yes! And let us not forget, Rick Santorum's most fervent desire for "Black people to have jobs instead of government assistance." (To paraphrase)

Listen here: I am white. I am middle aged. I am female. I have been on and off food stamps for several years. I have been raising four children on my own for 8 of those years. For 7 of those years I was employed full time working with the developmentally disabled. My hourly wage met the federal criteria for approval for food stamps for the children in my household.

Does this mean that I, as a working American failed as a morally upright person? No, I would argue that somewhere, somehow, our American system has failed to meet the obligation to our workforce. That is: to provide a decent living wage for our workforce. I really do not think I am bankrupting our country. Nor do I believe all of the rest of the food stamp recipients are the "problem" with this American economy.
In short....WHITE people make up the majority of food stamp recipients in this country. In my own community, there are many, many people on food stamps. (And I know them all personally) They are all white. NOT Black.

Newt says he's ready to go to the NAACP convention and tell them that paychecks are better than food stamps and there is no racial element to his statement?

      Really.

Gingrich knows his South Carolina Republican primary audience and knows exactly what he was saying. It was no dogwhistle. It was an outright appeal to racism.

Hannity's echo-chamber, self-reinforcing panels are invariably jokes, and bad ones.

The left wing is so desperate to say everything is racist they have gotten completely unhinged. On MBSNBC, Romney was attack for helping a black woman with an immediate need, and the people discussing it immediately brought in race. If Romney hadn't helped her, they would have attack him for being racist. The racism claim has been so abused, it no longer has any meaning.

It is racist because they :
-Ignore how many whites are on food stamps by implying or speaking only to blacks on food stamps(Santorum->Black people,Gingrich->to NAACP).
-They ignore how many people went on food stamps under Bush
-They ignore how many went on food stamps due to Bush policies after he left office.
-To associate the 1st Black President in this way is dishonest while stereotyping all Blacks and ignoring all the working black people that are NOT on food stamps. They intentionally want it to be perceived as undeserving blacks getting handouts so no insult is leveled at whites getting the same "handout".Nothing but pure racial politics.

How can the same people that constantly mention the clumsy non-racist "bitter" comment for Barack Obama as insulting to working class whites stubbornly claim this "food stamp"rhetoric is not insulting to Blacks. He was actually trying to defend these same pople from charges of being racist for not voting for him, which was teh question he was ansering!!
You have to believe ALL or an overwhelming majority of Blacks are on food stamps to take that position. You would have to be ignorant and racist to believe that.Sure, there is a higher representation(based on % of population) of blacks on food stamps, but more blacks were born into poverty and reamain so proportionately.

Why didn't Newt call Bush the food stamp president? The number of people on food stamps has steadily risen since 2002. Also doe Newt know that most people on food stamps actually work? They are truly the working poor. In addition, 53% are white!

This is the part they miss, and don't talk about. Indeed, most folks on food stamps DO work. They work hard. Sometimes they work 2 or more jobs. When you don't have a good education, and you're working min wage jobs, or close to min wage jobs, and you need food, housing, clothing, and taking care of your kids, min wage doesn't cut it. Not even 2-3 jobs at min wage or close to it don't cut it.

These folks, a lot of them, I'd say the vast majority, are hard working Americans.

They really want to think and or believe that everyone who receives assistance are just hanging out at home, waiting for the "check" to come in. And of course, when they talk about folks like that, they're always talking about "inner city" which is of course, code for, being black.

I personally can not stand Hannity but I just can't see how calling Obama the food stamp president is racist. You have both whites and blacks that receive food stamps so I just don't see how you can call that a racist comment.

Of course I also keep forgetting that any time you critize Obama you are a racist. But the left could critize Bush and that was OK. All I can say is we have a lot more pressing issues and Obama being called the food stamp president is a waste of time and a very unimportant issue.

How about some links and quotations from Mathews and Maddow saying that the entire tea party was racist? Not statements from you saying they said that, but actual quotations or video.

By the way, you're still confused about the terms. "Liberal news people" like Mathews and Maddow implies that they do straight news. They don't. They're clearly labeled as opinion shows.

No, we didn't forget. You can't forget what never happened. Reporting on the clearly racist signs at Tea Party rallies is not labeling the whole movement as racist. And as someone who watched Rachel's show regularly during that whole cycle, I can tell you that she explicitly said that one cannot conclude that all Tea Partiers are racist on the basis of the signs.

The problem with binary thinkers and automatons like you is that you view any criticism of someone with whom you share a political ideology as personal attack on you. Get over yourself.

The majority of people who criticize Obama that get labeled as racist are labeled as racist for injecting race or racial stereotypes into their criticisms of the president.

        STRAWMAN alert!

Nobody says that. Nobody says all criticisms about Obama are racial, or racist. It's just that this food stamp president line, made somewhat infamous by Newt Gingirch IS racial and racist.

You should be looking into WHY we have so many on food stamps and WHY this administration seen clueless on how to get the economy going.

Have you been awake? Hmm, quite a long recession, with now a long recovery time period, higher than normal unemployment, and people looking for and sometimes taking jobs that were the same as they had before, except with a lower rate of pay. It's pretty easy to see why there are more food stamps being issued now than before. That is, if you've been paying attention at all.

This administration is NOT clueless on how to get the economy going, as we are still in a steady increase of recovering from the recession now. All metrics that are used to measure the economy are on the steady rise.

Bush was criticized for REAL things with FACTS

Do you think that criticism of Obama is not real things with facts?

Bush did not bring the world economy down and that comment just shows how little you know about how we got here. It got it's big start when Clinton ended the Glass Steagall Act which allowed the finacial sector to get by with what they did and yes Bush did his part but only someone completely ignorant, like you, would believe Bush alone brought the world economy down or maybe you are just lying.

Now we have Obama who has done very little to turn around the economy besides dig us even deeper in debt and he still wants to spend more and raise the debt ceiling again. Obama was more focused on passing a health care bill than putting people back to work and the Affordable Health Care Act he passed isn't very affordable and has had a more negative impact on health care than a positive. It does nothing to reduce the cost but actually does the opposite and has increased the cost.

Also take a look at Obama's cabinet and czars, many came from Goldman Saccs and other financial institution that are largely the cause of our current economy. These people are advising Obama on how to fill their pockets not fix the economy. Why would you hire the people that, from greed caused the problem, to fix the problem.

Some, some from the left also. I have also seen photos of him being portrayed as a witch doctor, heard months of talk about how he was born in Kenya, heard him called a socialist and a Marxist and such other utter nonsense it is ludicrous

I know more about it than a brainwashed moron like you ever will. Sure it was an oversimplification but so is your fairly accurate portrayal until you spew out the talking points you were TOLD to think about the AHCA

Please stop with the constant Rush talking points like the stupid czar thing. Obama has less of them than Bush did. He would hire just those people for the same reason every other president does. Wealth and business run the country.

On what basis do you reach this conclusion? Admittedly, it hasn't reduced costs YET, but that is due to the Medicare provisions not going into effect until 2014. However, it certainly has not increased costs. The cost of healthcare in the US has been increasing at roughly the same rate (way above all other costs of living) for about 20 years. The only way to address healthcare costs in this country is to completely eliminate private health insurance companies. But I am sure that you are opposed to a single payer system.

That being said, please give very specific examples of how the law has increased healthcare costs. Otherwise, STFU!

Yeah, I mean, the left spent all that time calling Bush a secret Kenyan Muslim who wanted to put white people in camps and Photoshopped him to look like an African witch doctor, but when the right does it, all of a sudden they're "racist"! It's, like, totally a double standard, brah!
Also, Natalie Maines will be surprised to hear that no one was ever called out for "critizing" Bush.

That's not the whole story, just calling Obama the "Food Stamp President".

Gingrich went on to say that he would be willing to go the NAACP annual convention and tell that gathering that paychecks are better than foodstamps.

He said that "inner-city kids" should be put to work as janitors so that they could "develop a work ethic."

That's what was racist, not calling Obama the "Food Stamp President."

After all, most of those supposedly good-for-nothing, lazy, living-off-the-fat-of-the-land welfare queens and kings using the food stamp program are non-Latino whites.

Well how dare he suggest that an inner-city kid actually WORK to develop a work ethic I mean really they can get that sitting in front of the Xbox or in front of a computer on Facebook.

That was so racist I can not believe anyone would dare repeat those racist words.

We all know that NO white kids live in the inner-city. Yea right!

That reply was so stupid you should be mortally ashamed of yourself. Keep pretending you DONT hear the dogwhistle and denigrate those who arent as stupid as you as racists. You prove over and over how brainwashed and oblivious you are but you make no other point. Calling that racist is so stupid it is stunning.

Your ignorant first paragraph says a lot about how brainwashed you are. Who says inner city kids NEED janitor jobs to give them a work ethic, who says ignorant punks like you and Newt would teach that better than their parents or that they spend all day on xbox You are still pathetic alt. W

When rational adults hear the words rural or inner city in THIS context we know what is being said.

You really are stupid. What is wrong with a "inner-city" kid working as a janitor? Do you think they are above such things?

My first job was at a grocery store and I stocked shelves and mopped floors. Then I worked at an auto parts store and that's when I decided to go back to school and started taking machining classes at night. That got me a job at a tool and die shop. While working as a machinist I worked 60 plus hours a week and went to college in the evening working on an engineering degree. I was promoted to the engineering department and I have been in engineering for over 20 years and earn just under a hundred thousand a year.

I learned my work ethics starting from my first job so again you are wrong and I never said that they NEED to be a janitor to learn work ethics but that it is a way to START learning things like show up to work on time, do what you are told and do a good job but people like you think it is racist that a black person be suggested to such jobs I mean really how racist is that. You think they should only start out as a lawyer or a CEO. Also it is obvious you haven't been around any kids lately because sitting in front of an Xbox is exactly what many of them want to do or set in front of a computer or on a phone chatting and on Facebook. My guess is you never had kids and could never find a man that could stand to be around you long enough to get married and that you still live with your mommy.

There's nothing wrong with anybody working to develop a work ethic. The point isn't that -- can you really not see it?

The point is that "inner city" kids, in Newt's world, are to be singled out as particularly in need of developing a work ethic. And if you can't see what that is supposed to mean to voters in a South Carolina Republican primary, you're either blind or very, very naive.

If he'd just said "kids", he wouldn't be getting called on it.

Just as if he'd only talked about paychecks and foodstamps, he wouldn't be getting called on it. What people are observing is that he said that he would go to the NAACP convention to say that paychecks are better than food stamps. Why single out the NAACP?

As I say, if you can't see why, you're willfully ignoring something as plain as the nose on your face.

GOD but you are stupid. Everytime I can fight through the ignorance of one of your posts the first thing I think is my GOD there really are mentally defective, morons this stupid wandering the world.

What is wrong is the implication that such kids dont HAVE a work ethic or arent being taught one at home. It is ignorant and condescending. I understand you are too stupid to get this simple concept. The idea that we have to PUT them to work because their parents arent doing their job as Newt would have them do it is demeaning and so stupid only a moron like YOU wouldnt see what is wrong with it

I didnt have a job in high school except one summer that I worked building a golf course to buy a car. I didnt go to college and am an autodidact. I make more money than you do and have had the same job for about 35 years. So without being PUT to work I guess my work ethic turned out just fine. Ignorant of YOU or Newt to decide what these kids NEED in that dept.

Whatever Newt was saying EXACTLY that they need to be put to work to be taught a work ethic.

Look you are too stupid to understand virtually anything. He is using the dog whistle, inner city, to talk about black people and condescendingly saying that THEIR kids should be put to work to learn a work ethic. The ignorance, racism and condescension of that is so obvious it is embarassing to have to explain it to even someone as mentally deficient as you.

It is obvious you are both STUPID and a LIAR since you tell me what I have and havent been doing when you KNOW that you have no way of knowing that. I have a seventeen year old daughter. She was a kid not very long ago. I bought her a playstation thing but she mostly reads and plays her guitar and spends little time on it. Unlike YOU she isnt a moron. She was reading at three and read Animal Farm and understood it at twelve. So dont tell me what kids do. It is ignorant. Some kids do this others do that and that is the point YOU are too stupid to understand.

What I KNOW is you are a liar and a punk and that last sentence is too pathetic for words. I would never marry another man, nothing wrong with it but same sex marriage just isnt for me. My senior year in high school our homecoming queen walked up to me and asked my why I hadnt asked her out. My girlfriend was just flat better looking than her and too good a girl to pass up and became my first wife. We had little in common so it didnt last. My second wife, who died 10 years ago was a bathing suit model at fifteen and a member of MENSA. I wont show you any pictures since it would just torture a pathetic, ignorant, soulless cretin like you who couldt attract a whorehouse reject on your best day.

My mother is dead and you really should stop projecting your sad and pathetic life on me. Everyone should have my life. Meanwhile NO ONE deserves to have to go through life as stupid, pitiful and disgusting as you are

That's not what Gingrich said. He said that we should fire actual adult employees then force students to take those jobs.

            Also, how dare you, sir?

Are you seriously suggesting that students are not developing a work ethic simply because they want to have some free time beyond their actual work?

Yeah we know you think they need to get a job and get off your lawn those whippersnappers. You are just stupid and pathetic. No, it's more "how dare he suggest that inner-city kids are poor due to lack of work ethic, rather than due to all manner of societal factors beyond their control that Newt has no interest in because they're not younger women with a Motel 6 keycard and a lot of discretion".

This is why this is known as dog whistle. Plausible deniability. We don't question that racists leave themselves this room. However, you are being completely disingenuous when you claim that for the average rural conservative (hell, any right wing wingnut) that "inner city kids" does not automatically convey images of minority children. Oh yea that's great news only 379,000 applied for unemployment. They make no mention of the people that have dropped off of unemployment and hey we only have 13 MILLION unemployed now.
Obama is doing a wonderful job putting people back to work. Let's just hope we don't end up with Obama for another 4 years. He is a clueless moron on economics and he hires people like Jeffrey Immelt from GE to create jobs and he has sent thousands of jobs to CHINA so he must not have got the memo to create AMERICAN jobs. It's like we have the three stooges running the country. We had eight years of Bush and that was very bad and it will be as bad or worse if we have eight years of Obama.

You have just ignored 22 months of Economic growth and a reversal of the Bush recession to claim Obama is a clueless moron?REALLY.Based on what? You don't remember the rate of Job loss in early 2009 before Obama had any programs in place. His Recovery act(Stimulus ) was passed in April) and by June the recession ended and the job loss turned around.now jobs are being added steadily though not fast enough.Unemployemnet peaked but has come down to just 1% higher than when Obama took office. We all would like better results, but most rational people would say that while not great it is a reasonable result considering how bad things were and how long it took to get the econonmy in such a bad state by the Bush Admin(Remember ..they started with a strong economy and a budget surplus).
Ask yourself why all of those Republicans were smiling and posing back home when stimulus checks helped their states with projects and budget shortfalls that otherwise would have led to more layoffs!Of course they continued to be hypocrites and attack the President while in Washington. Please explain how doing nothing and letting the economy fall further down a hole (Republican plans all were no stimulus, no more bailouts)would have us in a better place NOW!!!Saving the US auto industry has returned GM to No 1 in the world but no Republicans wanted it to be saved. How would any conservative plan have put us in a better place right now? Please wow us with your great economic know how and educate us on how we are wrong..You have no idea who is a clueless MORON now do you??? Stop talking in general statements and make a cogent, detailed argument to support your claims!

I believe myself and others have made this statement about the whole "food stamp President" BS before.

I'd rather have MORE people on food stamps, and getting food, than for folks to be out on the streets and hungry.

What is wrong with these guys? What is inherently bad about helping the people of our country who can't afford food? Is this their version of Christianity? Apparently so.

And they wonder why people who are poor and minority won't vote for them.
