System Administrator
Media Matters for America -- a progressive, Washington-based, nonprofit research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media -- seeks a System Administrator to assist the Technology Department. This position is based in our Washington, D.C., office. Applicants must be prepared to relocate if not living within commuting distance of downtown D.C.
Working with the other members of our Technology department, the System Administrator will be responsible for maintaining, configuring, trouble shooting, and repairing our server systems and associated network infrastructure. These systems range from simple web servers to multi-rack storage systems with hundreds of terabytes of data. Expertise in Linux systems administration is a requirement and familiarity with the Ubuntu distribution preferred. Responsibilities will also include assisting our IT Support Administrators with maintenance of our Windows Server systems for desktop deployments and OS X Server for our video production department's Final Cut Server asset management systems.
Qualifications:
- Professional experience administering Linux servers; Ubuntu preferred.
- Experience with cloud computing platforms; Amazon EC2 and Rackspace Cloud preferred.
- Experience tuning system performance for a variety of workloads.
- Functional knowledge of various scripting languages; Perl, bash, etc.
- Experience configuring and managing relational database systems desirable; PostgreSQL preferred.
- Experience with virtualization platforms; XenServer preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in an IT related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
