Dobbs claims he's moving from being an independent to "being absolutely opposed" to "any policy" of Obama's

Washington, D.C. -- Today, Media Matters for America called attention to CNN prime-time host Lou Dobbs, who, while addressing President Obama on his radio show, declared that he was "moving from being an independent, sir, to being absolutely opposed to ... any policy you could conceive of."

"While Lou Dobbs' role as Mr. Independent may not have been believable to those watching his show, it certainly was embraced by CNN," said Eric Burns, President of Media Matters. "Now that Dobbs has publicly announced his opposition to the president's agenda, will Jon Klein still continue to pretend his most opinionated host isn't carrying water for the right wing?"

BACKGROUND

On the August 6 edition of his radio show, Dobbs shouted: "What do you think you're doing, Barack Obama? What kind of mindless, churlish, un-American nonsense are you ginning up this time? I'm moving from being an independent, sir, to being absolutely opposed to ... any policy you could conceive of." As Media Matters has noted, the Associated Press reported in an August 1 article that CNN President Jon Klein believes that "Dobbs has been doing a relatively straight newscast. 'He brings more than three decades of experience reporting and broadcasting the news,' Klein said, 'and that's very valuable to a news network.' "

Dobbs' announcement that he is no longer an "independent" begs the question of whether he ever was one in the first place. As Media Matters has noted, Dobbs frequently smears progressives, the president, and health care reform efforts:

      Lou Dobbs was never Independent.
He has always been a CNN Dependent.
He talks like a Man of the People.
But everyone knows he goes to a Church with a Leaning Steeple.

      Speak truth to power.

If it wouldn't be too much of a strain, how about listing and documenting all the lies you see in the column. Three? Ok, one. Knock yourself out.

Time has past Lou Dobbs. Having done that, and been there, returning is not an option. Mr. Dobbs reminds me of the old pro that will not let go, having seen his glory days. He is not losing his mind, the past exists, and today happens. We know the difference.

Feelings are keeping him on-air. The pasture awaits, but the trainer believes his charge can still win. I will remember Mr. Dobbs for this, not his former plateau. He strains to see the horizon, that changed with history. His era is ending, to be nurtured by youth.

I have listened to Dobbs since Obama's election to the Presidency.
Most of what I heard in the beginning was positive toward our President. The article above on this web page says, "Mr. Opposition Becomes Mr Independent." Then the article says, "Mr Dobbs frequently smears progressives." The article also says that Dobbs' announcement that he is no longer an independent "begs the question." The expression "begs the question" is a logical term that must have enough data to demonstrate that one has logically begged the question. The article had no such information. When a person changes his mind from supporting someone to not supporting someone how about not smearing his name. The writer of the article has done to Dobss the very thing he accuses Dobbs of doing. But there is a difference. Dobbs gave us his reasons, and the writer of the article gave no reason at all; only a smearing of Dobbs. How inconsistent; and apparently so.

If you want to see evidence from MMfA of Dobb's attacks on progressives, there is a search button in the banner at the top of the page. Just type in "Dobbs"

The headline reads "Mr. Independent becomes Mr. Opposition." Then the article provides the quote of Mr. Dobbs indeed saying what the headline says.
As far as your second point; the question being begged was if he ever was an "independent"? I believe that is a logical question to ask as is,but if YOU needed more proof like NG O. said there is a search button and articles highlighted for reference,so your wrong about not providing the information. Which makes your claim of a smear bogus!

I watch your media from afar [Australia] and sad to say, I have stopped watching it. I only get MSNBC from the net now. If the NYTimes doesn't start pushing back against the republicans I think I will stop reading that.
We [australians] have full healthcare, private doctors under our public health care system, I never wait for an appointment. Also, we have lots of private insurers - too many at times. It seems the private insurers are spending hundreds of millions of dollars, down under, in advertising.
You democrats have to get out with placards and signs and walk on Washington DC and demand your rights. Don't sit home twittering and typing. While democrats type the republican b'stards are making all the headlines.
One more thing. President Obama please get some erudite speakers on the airwaves - you really need them.

While Dobbs is entitled to his opinion, why is "His Mean-Spiritedness" still employed?
