An article published in WorldNetDaily blames the acceptance of homosexuality for creating a "slippery slope" to the popularization of incest, citing the popular HBO series Game Of Thrones as evidence.
In a July 23 post titled "Next Stop On Slippery Slope: Incest," notorious anti-LGBT activist Michael Brown warned that the acceptance of homosexuality had created a "slippery slope" towards "sexual anarchy" and the normalization of incest:
Gay activists constantly tell us that there's no such thing as a slippery moral slope and that the acceptance of homosexuality will not lead to the acceptance of other sexual practices, such as incest. The facts prove otherwise, and it is clear that we are rapidly sliding down the very slope whose existence they deny.
As I continually chart our society's moral free fall, the term that best describes our current condition is sexual anarchy, where men can have sex with men just as well with women, where sex outside of wedlock is just as acceptable as sex within wedlock, where marriage doesn't necessarily mean monogamy and where longstanding social taboos are cast off.
In their zeal to justify homosexual practice, these misguided teachers have opened the door wide to incest as well, removing the primary biblical texts that prohibit these sexual unions.
Society as a whole needs to take heed as well. If we don't reverse our slide down this slippery moral slope, we will soon crash and burn.
Brown also blamed the media - including television shows like Game of Thrones and Happyland - for undermining the taboo against incest:
With increasing frequency and openness, the media are now promoting and even celebrating incest.
The popular HBO series "Game of Thrones" also features an adult, brother-sister sexual relationship, while media analyst Brent Bozell wrote on July 18, 2014, "For those who predict the coming collapse of Western civilization, there's always MTV for proof. At this year's Television Critics Association summer tour in Hollywood, MTV put on a panel discussion for the press with the cast and creators of a forthcoming series called 'Happyland.' The female star of the show, actress Bianca Santos, announced the new MTV motto: 'Incest is hot, and we're going to have fun!'"
And there is no slippery slope!
Brown has previously compared homosexuality to pedophilia, bestiality, and "sexual stimulation by faeces." He's an ardent believer in the gay "slippery slope." He also defended Uganda's extreme anti-gay law as necessary to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS.
The "slippery slope" argument is a common conservative horror story about the danger of tolerating LGBT people. It's also a complete fabrication - there are compelling, evidenced reasons for prohibiting practices like incest. In states where gay relationships are widely accepted, there hasn't been a rush to legalize incest. States that are tolerant of incestuous relationships tend to be right-leaning states, where homosexuality is less accepted.
It's telling that Brown chooses to cite fictional television shows to peddle his bogus link between homosexuality and incest. Much like the dragons and skeletons that roam the land on Game of Thrones, the "slippery slope" argument is only troubling for people who can't distinguish fact from fantasy.
