Bob Dole: "There's not a muzzle big enough out there" for Teresa Heinz Kerry

The day after Teresa Heinz Kerry responded to supporters of the Bush-Cheney '04 ticket (who were chanting "four more years" during her remarks at a Kerry-Edwards '04 rally) by saying, "They want four more years of hell," MSNBC anchor Laurie Jennings asked former Republican presidential candidate and regular CNN contributor Bob Dole for his "take" on Heinz Kerry. Dole said, "There's not a muzzle big enough out there, I don't think."

From the August 3 edition of MSNBC Live:

DOLE: I know Teresa. She was-- her late husband, John Heinz, a good friend of mine. She's a very outspoken woman, and I don't think they'd be able to-- There's not a muzzle big enough out there, I don't think.

In the same interview, Dole discounted Kerry's call for a special session of Congress (to address the recommendations of the 9-11 Commission) by echoing House Majority Leader Tom DeLay's (R-TX) criticism of Kerry. Dole said, "[H]e [Kerry] probably doesn't plan to attend." Yet, as The New York Times noted on August 3, Kerry "told reporters that he would attend such a session to debate and vote when necessary."

From MSNBC Live:

DOLE: I think it would help, and I think the point of it-- If Kerry comeback, he hadn't been there all year, and neither has [Senator John] Edwards [D-NC]. He's calling for a special session in Congress which he probably doesn't plan to attend. Now if he wants to come back and participate that I think that's one thing.
