Fox now selling "Christmas" ornaments for "Christmas" trees
December 01, 2005 12:09 pm ET
One day after Media Matters for America noted that the Fox News online store labeled its ornaments "Holiday" ornaments -- including one with The O'Reilly Factor logo -- the items have been renamed "Christmas" ornaments, and references to "your holiday tree" now refer to "your Christmas tree."
Fox News hosts Bill O'Reilly and John Gibson have criticized what they consider a secular "war on Christmas," and O'Reilly has specifically railed against use of the term "holiday tree" instead of "Christmas tree."
Fox News' use of "Holiday" in the ornament names was first documented by the weblog Daily Kos.

ahahahaha!
Good to know Fox Employees read MMFA and/or watch Keith Olbermann.
What a pack of dolts, they are.

If you can not appreciate the truly amusing aspects of this article then you need to work a little on your sense of humor. I will say it again there is no denying MMFA has an appreciation for the truly ridiculous—and this “war” on the “war on Christmas” is RIDICULOUS. Everyone knows it—well, except maybe Gibson and O’Reilly but they don’t even recognize what a caricature they have become so it is not really surprising.
If you really can’t appreciate the chuckle of the day then maybe you could look at it as MMFA pitching in to do their part to help combat the “war on Christmas”. Score one for MMFA for getting that pesky “Holiday” word out of Christmas on this blatant offender’s website (-;
lostlogic,
I have to agree here that this topic, unlike many others involving O'Reilly which are downright silly and obsessive, deserves space here. It highlights his hypocrisy perfectly as he spouts off on stores and companies that substitute "holiday" for "Christmas", yet he should have the consistency and integrity to showcase his own employer as violator #1
Maybe this isn't misinformation, but it rises to the level where it's appropriately mentioned here.

Hi Tommy
I don’t know about “obsessive” but I will agree with "silly". But isn’t that sort of the point—this guy is a joke.
I must admit I usually get a big kick out of the O’Reilly articles on MMFA it is always a sure bet for a good laugh for the day.
I do agree with you and jeter when you mentioned he used to be different then this wacky caricature he has become; I use to listen to him a lot—not so much any more. I really noticed a change after the sex harassment thingy—maybe he decided to play the Fox game more passionately since they bailed him out of a sticky situation and stood by him. Who knows but the man has really ruined his credibility with anyone other then those who…well…those who would actually buy a factor Christmas ornament (-:

Hey lostlogic, it's nice seeing you ALL so jolly (I mean that sincerely), it's a nice change from the FRUSTRATED posters I usually encounter here (I'm not including YOU in that group of course)...you gotta figure some heads MUST be rolling over at Fox...
O'Reilly must be steaming, his network just made HIM look like an idiot.
P.S. when's the party? ;-)

And the "conservative misinformation" in this post is ... what?
=============================================================
The conservative misinformation, as well as the conservative HYPOCRISY, is that Fox's "War on Christmas" is both hypocritical and bogus (based on lies). Fox lies, so that's no surprise.
Someone asked "Why did MediaMatters.com post about Bill O'Reilly's campaign to get people to say 'Merry Christmas' instead of 'Happy Holidays'? What is the conservative misinformation there"
The conservative misinformation is that they're creating an invisible enemy for their base to rally against. They do this all the time. They try to gain supporters by taking specific things that most people have no quarrel with, and connecting them to big things that aren't actually happening but people would be upset if they were.
Small thing: "Holiday" vs. "Christmas" Big scary thing: Liberal plot to turn everyone atheist.
For example: It is good business sense to be inclusive of the many religions that have holidays in December.Instead holding a "Christmas sale", you might hold a "Holiday Sale". If your products are religion-specific (such as a Menorah store), then why make your marketing religion specific?
Now FNC and O'Reilly try to turn people more conservative by implying that if you're comfortable with a "holiday sale" instead of a "christmas sale", then you are falling prey to a liberal plot to brainwash everyone into becoming atheists. They are telling their viewers: "Watch out! You'd better lean further right, or you'll have to give up your religion!"
Lots of groups use these scare tactics to retain members, liberal groups included. But the tactics become a problem when the enemy doesn't actually exist.
People ARE trying to take away a woman's right to make choices about her own body.
People ARE trying profiting off the war, and off the Katrina disaster.
But THERE IS NO GRINCH! No one is trying to steal Christmas. THAT's the conservative misinformation in this post.
Just started reading MMFA and am now hooked since they cited Olbermann today. Olbermann's the best on TV. Period.
My wife, who's a Republican, was furious at Olbermann giving O'Reilly all 3 medals last night.
I couldn't stop laughing for 5 minutes.

DAMAGE CONTROL! GET ME DAMAGE CONTROL ON THE DOUBLE!
The change from "Holiday Ornament" to "Christmas Ornament" took place last night some time between 7 and 8 p.m. PDT, but the copy still read "holiday tree" and "holiday guests." The change to "Christmas tree" in the body copy was made some time after about 10 p.m.
Note that the page header still says "Holiday Ideas" and the Fox Shop splash screen still says "Holiday Collection"

I think the only way they can get around this is to admit they did it because if they don't all of their "War on Christmas" rhetoric will be moot. But maybe their audience doesn't care.
Great catch, Daily Kos, and thanks for spreading the word, MMFA.
Now what would Jesus hang on HIS holiday tree? Fox ornaments? Gag.
I'm surprised O'Reilly did not get mentioned in this "Trimming 'Christmas' from trees stirs debate" article by the USA Today. On the other hand, perhaps O'Reilly is supposed to be used just to stir up the debate, then the media just reports the aftermath.

For the second day in a row, USA has come out with an article on the use of, or lack of use of, Christmas by retailers.

And yet, did anyone notice this headline on the Fox News sidebar just now?
Rockefeller XMas Tree Lit
It's MALCOM's birthday???
ROFL !!!!
taking the christ out of christmas AGAIN ! i am OUTRAGED, i tell you !
happy winter, everyone. :-)
Actually, using X as shorthand for Christ has been done for centuries.
well, if we're going to get technical, it's my understanding that it's not an X but an X-like character. so XMas using modern day fonts does not refer to christ at all.
(this is too picky even for my own comfort !)

I believe but am not positive it has to do with a very early symbol for Christ the ChiRho

LMFAO!
A. Al-in-LA... relax, whydonchaonce? B. On FoxNews.com -- the XMas tree reference on the "latest headlines" bar has been pulled.
Once again MMFA has saved us all from the DUHDUHDUH THE WAR ON CHRISTMAS! The blatant stupidity of FNC marketing this as an attempt to start a divisive war among Americans is nothing but muckraking and stupidity at it's worst.
i wonder if FAUX news has special "war on christmas" music. :-)

Not as long as GOP-FOX signs Bill O'Lielly's fat paycheck and foots the bill for O'Lielly's phone sex and accommodates his televised sexual harassment escapades.
Hey, what IS Bill doing with that yule log?!?!?!?!?!?!
I'm sorry, but anybody who adorns their holiday tree (or Christmas tree--whatever) with an ornament that has the Fox News logo on one side and the words "Fair and Balanced" on the other side is, well, unbelievably dorky and probably in need of a psychiatrist.

Hubby and I had a good chuckle over this concept too. Can you picture the wacko who would buy these ornaments and put them on their tree...forget that can you imagine your reaction if you walked into someones house and saw one of these thingys on the tree...you would spit your eggnog clear across the room(-:
Lostlogic,
I think they would make cheesy gifts... Good for a laugh!

Hi AA
Hmmm...maybe this year I should have a decorate the tree party and request everyone bring a Fox ornament...better double my liquor order to get me through that experience. (-:
Those thinking about getting Fox ornaments for their tree (notice clever omission of the religious reference?) might want to consider getting the ornaments in pairs. Putting just one "Fair & Balanced" Fox bauble up is likely to topple the tree or at the very least cause it to lean far to the right.
In Bill's column today he complains about Kmart and Sears not using Christmas in any way. On his site,if you click on any of the books in his book club. You are sent to Barnes&Noble to buy the book. But they also do not have the word Christmas on their site.
Home page saids Barnes&Noble Happy Holidays...Vist our Holiday Gift Center!!The word "Christmas" is no where to be seen.
The other day on CNN Laura Bush conducted a tour of the White House holiday decorations. She ended the segment by saying "Happy Holidays!" Now I guess O'Reilly and Gibson will have to condemn the First Lady for helping to perpetrate the "War on Christmas." What a joke. I won't hold my breath.
the only real question here was how quickly would they change it. fox bows to mmfa and the daily kos.
i would like to see something like a hall of shame for items like this, where it could be easily accessible for those times when you are arguing with the people who insist fox is legit, instead of a collection of right wing blowhards. just say oh yeah check this out.
Note to Bill O'Reilly:
It's called 'tolerance', and 'respect for people whose beliefs are different from yours'. It's an admireable human trait. Too bad you don't share that trait.
Not only have you lost touch with reality, you've lost touch with your humanity (and so has "Hannity" ;) ).
Liar Sean Hannity never had any humanity to lose in the first place.
Still at the top of the page it says "Holiday Ideas" instead of "Christmas Ideas."
great gag gift, huh?
After I appeared on O'Reilly Tuesday evening, I received about a dozen hatefilled e-mails from O'Reilly viewers who claimed to be Christians. Apparently his viewers are more interested in retail outlets using the blasphemously generic word "holiday", than in spreading joy and goodwill. Sounds like the "reason for the season" for these O'Reilly viewers is ... shopping.
Maybe a little late to mention it here, but Sam on Air America's Majority Report got a copy from an insider at Fox News of an invitation to the News Corporation's Employee 'Holiday' Party!!! It's gonna be hard for them to fix this one!
See for yourself:
