Coulter advocated U.S. invasion of Iran ... and China
SUMMARY: On Fox News' Hannity & Colmes, Ann Coulter suggested that the United States should invade Iran and China.
In defending the Bush administration's invasion of Iraq during an appearance on the March 13 edition of Fox News' Hannity & Colmes, right-wing pundit Ann Coulter suggested that the United States should invade Iran and China in order to pre-empt any threat those nations may pose. Coulter made her remarks during a conversation with co-host Alan Colmes and Richard Aborn, managing director of risk-management firm Constantine & Aborn Advisory Services, about the Bush administration's discredited claim that former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction. When Aborn suggested that Coulter's rationale for invading countries before firmly establishing that they represent a serious threat "would mean we need to go into Iran" and "we should go into China," Coulter responded: "Yeah!"
This week, the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council failed to reach an agreement on a statement intended* to pressure Iran to suspend its nuclear enrichment program. The measure failed to win the support of either China or Russia. Representatives of the countries that support the measure -- including the United States, France, and Britain -- said they may put it before the full 15-member security council, despite the disapproval of the other two permanent members.

COLMES: Let me give you an example of where I believe we were misled.
You had [Vice President] Dick Cheney on [NBC's] Meet the Press saying Saddam Hussein reconstituted his nuclear program. That was not true. He said it a couple of times. We heard from [President] George W. Bush, he's a threat that we must deal with as quickly as possible. It turned out not to be true --
SEAN HANNITY (co-host): That's what [Sen. John] Kerry [D-MA] said.
COLMES: We heard, "imminent threat," "immediate threat," over and over and over again from this administration. That turned out not to be true. So, is that not a misleading of the American public?
COULTER: How about the rape rooms, did that turn out to be true?
COLMES: Now, but, you're avoiding my question.
ABORN: We're not -- we're not invading countries.
COLMES: The very specific things I just mentioned? Were they true or not true?
COULTER: No, I'm not avoiding. OK. Then, let me ask you another question. How about right now? You have a lunatic running Iran, who's running around claiming he has a nuke. When do we wait? Do we wait for a city to be taken out?
COLMES: But, wait a minute. You're not responding to my very -- I gave you a very specific thing --
ABORN: But that's a much a different -- again. That's a much different argument. Ann. Ann, you are --
COULTER: No, it's not, because we're not going to know. We're not going to know, as [Secretary of State] Condoleezza Rice said, until a city is gone. Now liberals want to say we won't do anything, and if we go in --
COLMES: So, that we can wait until everybody else, until they're gone?
ABORN: That would mean we need to go into Iran. We should go into China. This is not an intellectually honest argument.
COULTER: Yeah!
ABORN:. Well, then, you're -- you hear what they're talking about --

COULTER: OK. But America, listen to this: Democrats will not take out a threat, they will wait for an American city to be bombed. Pay attention to that.
COLMES: I guess, we're just going to have to go and invade every country.
ABORN: You can resort to insult, it doesn't get you anywhere.
*Correction: This item originally stated incorrectly that the U.N. Security Council "voted on a resolution designed to pressure Iran to suspend its nuclear enrichment program." But the council did not vote on a resolution; as The Washington Post reported, members of the panel failed to reach an agreement "on a proposed statement pressuring Iran to suspend its nuclear enrichment efforts."

I have brought this up in a few prior posts. 6 months ago early estimates put a nuclear weapon development by Iran at 10 years out. 3 months ago the United Nations claimed a weapon could be obtained in 4-5 years. Now we have crazy lunatics like Ann Coulter outright saying Iran is "running around claiming [they] have a nuke." The fear mongering has started everyone and it is happening all over again just like it did with Iraq.
And Fox is glad to oblige broadcasting Coulter's misinformation..
When (m)Ann Coulter speaks of Democrats wanting to wait for a city to be gone before they act is laughable. Which party was in charge when a city was actually “taken out” right in front of our collective eyes by an ‘entity’ that was visible from space 5 days in advance? I forget. Oh yeah, now I remember, no one could have anticipated the “breach” of the levees…And who was in charge when parts of 2 other cities were destroyed by terrorists after warnings about such attacks were ignored? Imagine the “screeching” by the Limbaughs and Hannitys of the right if Clinton had been president during either one of these tragic events.
Anyway, what always amazes me is that Ann and her ilk do not seem to comprehend that freedom has a cost. These cowards are unwilling to pay that cost. They are willing to forgo a little freedom for (the appearance of) security. Who was that wise old man who said something like, “Those who are willing to give up freedom for security deserve neither”.
We live in a nation, at least for now, where one cannot be punished for what they might do. Does anyone really believe that if Iran did actually destroy an American city with a nuclear weapon, that there wouldn’t be an “Iran-shaped” hole in the desert? Give me a frickin’ break crazy lady!

I remember when a lot of right wingers constantly cried that China was itching to invade the US! Remember that aircraft collision before 9/11? Or that we'll come to blows when they all of a sudden invade Taiwan?
Every year we send hundreds of billions of dollars to China via our trade defecit. If someone was giving you free money would you try to kill them? It is far more sensible that we invade China and recover all those dollars (and their assets and investments) so we don't have to pay up when our loans mature.
Of course, China will just use this as leverage against us so in a sense they already are a realized (but ignored) threat. It is unfortunate that many developing places in the world like China are as addicted to our spending as we are to their lending, but even a rocky economic relationship is better than a declared state of war.
Seems I recall reading somewhere about third-party Presidential candidate Gen. Curtis LeMay (himself something of a John Bircher type--slogan: "Bombs Away with Curtis LeMay!!!") suggesting attacking the People's Republic of China as a "preventative" measure in the face of the Vietnam War's ever-deepening quagmire.
Not bad, considering where LeMay's biggest appeal was to the vulnerable, the easily-influenced, and the weird and unwholesome generally. (From what I recall, LeMay dismissed Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia as "a mere flyspeck" and suggested going after "the whole dungheap," as in China, to ensure "complete and final victory over Communism.")

As an American university student studying abroad in China working on an International Studies degree (w/ a regional focus on East Asia) I may have a unique perspective on Sino-American relations. Recently a Chinese professor asked me to grammar a check an article that he was trying to have published. The essay was basically about the prospects of China using nuclear weapons in the future and how it was not only trying to enhance it's nuclear deployment capability, it was also imminently moving towards more aggressive nuclear policies. Currently China wouldn't dream of attacking the US with nuclear weapons. First of all it's nuclear policy (unlike any other nuclear power) is NO FIRST USE. China refuses to use nuclear weapons unless it is attacked with them first. Second of all China cannot possibly expect to compete in a nuclear war with the U.S. because for every 1 warhead it has the capability of launching the U.S. have the capability to deploy 200. Meaning 200 Chinese cities gone for 1 U.S. city. Do the Chinese sound like a threat now Ann Coulter? I think not. What the loud-mouthed Bush apologist fails to mention is that countries in the middle east, like Iran, wouldn't have the capability of deploying warheads even if they had them. Does Iran have long range ICBMs? Hells no. The prospects of sneaking a nuclear device into U.S. also seems damn near impossible with security nowadays. Why don't you think about the real world aspects of nuclear warfare before you make your statements Miss Coulter? You act like people could just throw nuclear missles across the Atlantic. Nonsense. P.S. Ann Coulter only has a career because she makes outlandish statements that appeal to conservatives regardless of the validity of those statements. She knows she's lying. We know she's lying. Is it just me or does invading China seem like the worst idea ever? I think, not positive, but I think that China is just a little bit more advanced than Iraq and may be able to defend themselves a bit better. I guess we'll never know until we try.

I remember hearing this administration talking point consistently echoed on Fox during the build-up to the war. I recall Sean Sr. "hosting" a guest who maintained that the (then) current weapon searches did not seem to indicate a weapons program. Sean Sr.'s response was to yell: "WHAT IF YOU'RE WRONG?! WHAT IF YOU'RE WRONG?!"
So it seems that we need to blow the sh*t out of any country who may have weapons and harbor anti-American sentiments. Given America's current foreign policy, the list is long so we best get moving.

Colmes asked several times if the statements of wmd's and "imminent" threat to U.S. security were untrue. Coulter promised to answer but never did so. All we got was the retort that the Bush gang was correct about the Iraqi rape rooms. Didn't Ari Fleshier say this war "is about wmd's and only about wmd's"? I don't remember hearing that this was a humantarian mission due to domestic human rights abuses. I also seem to remember Coulter, Hannity and the rest of that gang making light of abuses of Iraqi detainees at Abu. Is there nothing that this gang won't distort, misrepresent or take out of any context to avoid admitting mistakes or factual inaccuracies?

The US is struggling to win a war against country of 20 million with no real military. What chance is there against a country of over a billion people and a military that can fight back? There is no way the US can win a conventional war against China. As for a nuclear war, ok the US could 'win' that. But what about after the war. Hundreds of millions dead and there is nuclear fallout all over Asia. Japan most likely blown away in the crossfire. I'm sure Russia won't be too excited by a nuclear war on their doorstep. Especially with the US using smart bombs that unitentionally take out Russian cities. And who will the US and the rest of the world by trading with in Asia? Will this then lead to a whole world recession/depression? The US, as the worlds largest economy will possibly suffer the most. Good one Ann. Let's cut off our nose to dispirit our face.
