SUMMARY: On the March 14 edition of his nationally syndicated show, Rush Limbaugh said, "What do you think this is doing for the morale of these insurgents who are probably in their last gasp over there or close to it?" and "How many Iraqi women and children have been killed by insurgents who have been emboldened by the American left?"

Discussing charges that President Bush is a "liar" and that the war in Iraq is "unjust" on the March 14 edition of his nationally syndicated radio show, Rush Limbaugh asked: "What do you think this is doing for the morale of these insurgents who are probably in their last gasp over there or close to it?"

Moments earlier, Limbaugh had asked rhetorically: "How many Iraqi women and children have been killed by insurgents who have been emboldened by the American left?"

From the March 14 broadcast of The Rush Limbaugh Show:

LIMBAUGH: The liberals are not leveling with the American people about the war. Where are the estimates of deaths caused by division? How many Iraqi women and children have been killed by insurgents who have been emboldened by the American left?

It's like I asked you yesterday: What would you do, how would you feel if Al-Jazeera started showing us video clips of various Al Qaeda leaders and Al Qaeda terrorists, complaining about [Osama] bin Laden? "Bin Laden lies. Bin Laden promised us we're going to have a lot more attacks. Bin Laden said the World Trade Center was just the first of a new wave and we haven't gotten anything. We're losing our lives in Iraq. We're having to blow up our own people. We're having to blow up other Muslims just to raise hell because we can't mount a major" --

What do you think our attitude would be? Would you not think, "We are kicking butt, we are winning it?"

Well, what do you think their attitude to the American left and the American media is in this country when they see that kind of thing every day? When they see this president continually under assault as a liar; uncaring; lied to get us there -- the war is unjust. People like [Sen.] John Murtha [D-PA]: "Bring us home. Redeploy." [Sen.] John Kerry [D-MA], [former Vice President] Al Gore, and you've got [former President Bill] Clinton all going over to Saudi Arabia and other foreign countries denouncing their own country, denouncing their own country's effort and their own military.

What do you think this is doing for the morale of these insurgents who are probably in their last gasp over there or close to it? So, who is it that's not leveling with who?

The Message in the coming months is simple when you remember these diatribes, "They were lying all along, it only makes the stomach turn now the nation has their leadership in power, and an unwanted war to show for it!"

Limbaugh wasn't all of a sudden a lying bloviator, with a 4 grade intellect. He was always talking of things he has no concept of, an expert on all things Republican, and a master of nothing short of lying.

He never served his country, like the leadership he defends; he dodged his opportunity to serve for a pimple on the ass. This is the guy our troops get to hear the most, do they know who their listening too?

How could this man have the ear of a nation, when does the substance of these people matter when we consider their opinion, their leadership?

Elections of '04 made a stark contrast, a dedicated public servant, whom volunteered for the most dangerous duty, in a most dangerous war vs. the mud slinging, lying, draft dodgers.

The nation voted for the draft dodgers?! The nation has been listening to the draft dodgers!?

Should we as a nation be surprised we're in a self imposed replay of Vietnam inspired by a pair of draft dodgers and their allies for no better motive than the political capital to get re-elected? ā€œI’m a Wartime President!ā€ Do you remember? A Wartime President who knew America would be loyal in a time of War, when they went to the polls.

If Americans love freedom, civil liberties, and democracy, why did we freely vote for this outcome??

More importantly, is America ready to come to terms with their mistake, their crimes against themselves, to redeem themselves, and pay the penance needed to right this nation??

        Happy Thoughts;

        Dan Grady

"Insurgents who have been emboldened by the American left..."

Right-wing paranoia is so funny sometimes.

I'm sure Iraqi insurgents are turning on Air America radio, logging in to MMFA, Democratic Underground, and MoveOn.org, and calling up Ted Kennedy and Nancy Pelosi's office to get their daily marching orders every morning.

I remember watching Ken Burn's Civil War documentary years ago. An author named McPherson told the story of the Confederate soldier captured in the war whose captors asked him, why are you fighting? His response was, I'm fighting because you're down here.

when I looked up the quote, McPherson mentioned that George Will had asked him about that quote to use in an article about Kosovo. I find it funny that the Will's forget that they were vocal in their dissent about the intervention in Kosovo while Americans were in battle, but not one American died while freeing nations and stopping genocide.

If you did, you would know that they are quite aware of what we say in our media and our political disputes. In fact, several of the Islamic websites I read on a regular basis quote the Democratic senators you mention...and they take a great deal of satisfaction in the fact that we have such public disagreements. They may not always hear it first-hand, but in some ways that is worse, because it becomes exaggerated with each re-telling.

The insurgents in Iraq won't stop fighting. As long as the United States of America is occupying Iraq, they will continue.

Democrats do not embolden these people, but Republicans have. Bush speaks of killing every insurgent, that is the speech which excites anger.

Would be to have Rush Limbaugh thrown off Armed Forces Radio or whatever they're calling it now. As far a the insurgency being in the last gasps over there, that now makes two people who believe in that fairy-tale, Rush and Deadeye Dick Cheyney.

Maybe, "this president" is "continually under assault as a liar" because he has refused to level with us. He has yet to answer any tough questions from unscreened citizens. He has waged this war on his own terms and should accept responsibility for the state of the war and for the upcoming civil war.

The last time, I checked Senator Kerry and Rep. Murtha are still entitled to the protection our constitution grants them to speak freely on any topic they care to talk about. You might even argue, that they've earned that right, by serving their country during war time when they were young men. George W. didn't, Dick C. didn't, and none of the rights cheerleaders, like Rush or O'Reilly chose to stand up when their generation had to make the sacrifice. These are all little men, who know how to talk a good game, but when it came to stepping up, they stood down. Cowards, one and all!

--"How many Iraqi women and children have been killed by insurgents who have been emboldened by the American left?"--

Mr. Limbaugh, the insurgents were "emboldened" right from the get-go, and haven't stopped since Bush invaded Iraq. Starting with George's "shock-and-awe". Or maybe they were emboldened to say "no, it's not" upon hearing Bush's "mission accomplished". Or maybe it was because of his policy of rendering and torturing of prisoners who were not charged with a crime. Take your pick-Bush has done much to embolden terrorists and unfortunately he's apparently not done yet.

      =====

Well I gotta tell ya IF I heard THAT, I'd be pumped. So I'm gonna AGREE with Rush on THAT part of his statement.

The rest, is a bit farfetched. After all we have daily access to TV, radio, newspapers, and the internet. I'm not so sure what IF anything they are hearing in Iraq...While I'm sure SOME of the insurgency also is getting NEWS from the outside I truly DOUBT whether they are spurred on by DIVISION on the war here among Americans.

The reason for the continuing insurgency is 1) the desire to expel US Troops from Iraq 2) Hatred for the West [whether it's deserved or not is a whole OTHER topic].

While hearing [if they in fact do] about a growing % of the American people being against the War, and Bush's plummeting popularity might be music to their ears, I doubt it has much, if anything to do with their continuing uprising.

This is just more spin from Rush.

Yes, they do want the US out and they do have hatred for the West. But I think the bigger part of the picture is their hatred for each other.

There has been ill will between Kurds, Sunnis, Shiites, etc. in Iraq for generations and it is resurfacing now that Saddam is not there with his iron fist maintaining brutal, dictatorial order. This is what critics are talking about when they say 'civil war'.

Good point, and one I FORGOT to mention (though I think the Kurds would be happy to peacefully stay out of the fray) and simply have their own autonomy [by way of their own country--Kurdistan] BTW it's the US who is frowning the MOST about the Kurds rightfully acquiring their independence. Why? Because Turkey OBJECTS. We can't piss off Turkey because of their "strategic location" is TOO important to us--and they KNOW it. [ You know what they say--location location location]. I say Bull sh#t.

But you're correct--Without Iraq's Big Bad Babysitter Saddam [ ok maybe sadistic warden is more like it] all hell has broken loose.

"United we stand" is a great lie of the Right. Dissent is necessary. Dissent is good. Hasn't Limbaugh read Jefferson? Franklin? Locke? Without dissent, there isn't democracy. Without dissent, we're susceptible to demagogues.

Limbaugh considers himself a patriot, but his patriotism should start by reading the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and those documents that supported their development.

Franklin and Jefferson might not spit on Limbaugh, given the chance, but I think they'd wanna.

I was under the impression that conservatives believed in "Individual freedom, individual responsibility." They denounce those who blame everybody but themselves for their problems.

Well then, why is the insurgency the fault of John Murtha, John Kerry, Al Gore or Bill Clinton? Isn't the insurgency the fault of the people doing the killing? How can anything any of us said be responsible for what killers choose to do? This is one area where the conservative hypocrisy sickens me.

for Rush to go to Iraq (Baghdad, preferably) to show support for our troops. I'm sure my brother would be thrilled to see him.

Since the insurgency is taking its last gasp, he surely wouldn't be in danger like others brave enough to go before him.

Oh, yeah, my brother.....he's at Abu Ghraib (sp?)...you know, that prison that's now shut down. Only it's not. Not shut down. In his own words, from last weeks' e-mail "As far as Abu Ghraib closing - I'll believe it when my ass is safe within the BIAP complex. Until then, Abu is standing tall. No one is being beaten or totured here - most of the detainees live in compounds of tents of 25-30 secured inside of wire and fence. No one under our control is in the "hard sites" that you see pictures of from 3 years ago. Those cells are actually where we (soldiers) live now. "

By the way, does anyone know what Rush's deferment was for? Did they give out deferments for cats?

As far as I'm concerned, every death in Iraq over the past three years - whether by American bombs or by deadly insurgents - can be blamed on Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, et al, as well as those who supported them -- especially Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Hannity, and the rest.

Anyone with an understanding of history and a grasp of human nature could see where this was going to end up before we invaded (on false pretenses). In fact, Bush and the rest were warned - starkly - by their own people and they ignored the evidence in front of their faces.

They were warned also by the billion or so people around the world who pleaded with them before the war not to do this evil thing.

Bush denounces his own country every time he takes the podium. Can you really take Limbaugh seriously. He's a pill popping blowhard who thinks the rule of law applies only when it's convenient for his idological point of view. He still has a loyal following, but it's dwindling as evidenced by the fact that a couple of cities have dropped his show.

Basically, Rush is still parroting the same tired line--disagreement with Bush equals treason; disagreement with Bush equals the reason soldiers and civilians are dying in ever increasing numbers in Iraq. Just like Bush, whenever criticism hits the fan, he simply turns it around and blames liberals. It's the only thing he knows how to do. As evidenced by Bush's plummeting approval ratings, Rush isn't even doing a very good job at that.

What do you do when you're a one-trick pony and the trick doesn't work anymore?

"but for" the nagging press we would have won a long time ago. I cannot see an insurgent force tuning in to Keith Oberman, thedailykos, and the New York Times and after their media perusal being able to immediately translate this idiomatic English to poor kids to convince them to put their lives at risk. Limbaugh is selling that comment #25 to a Media Matters string may cause an illeterate kid to strap a suicide belt to his chest and board a bus. For those of you who think Iraqis or Middle Easterners in general know little or nothing about our internal political disputes, I can only conclude that you don't read any Islamic websites or publications. Based on my research, they know quite a bit, even quoting senators such as Pelosi or Durbin. They do indeed take a great deal of satisfaction in our public squabbling and potshots at the administration. The only problem is, it's interpreted in a way that is much worse than intended. Where we might see healthy, open debate, they see a house divided that they hope and pray will fall. While they might not be able to listen to Air America live (and, quite honestly, sometimes I'm not able to, but for different reasons), the essence of what is being put forth by the American Left is getting through, and it is hurting us.
