Rove's lawyer says he won't be indicted ... so: What about that security clearance?
With the news that White House senior adviser Karl Rove apparently will not be indicted in the CIA leak investigation, Media Matters for America urges the media to ask the following question: What about his security clearance?
As Media Matters has previously explained, both Rove's apparent confirmation of CIA officer Valerie Plame's identity to syndicated columnist Robert D. Novak and his alleged disclosure of her identity to Time magazine correspondent Matthew Cooper should trigger the loss of his security clearance under the Classified Information Nondisclosure Agreement.
In November 2005, Knight Ridder reported that "sixteen former CIA and military intelligence officials ... urged President Bush to suspend top political adviser Karl Rove's security clearance following revelations that he played a role in outing CIA officer Valerie Plame."
As Media Matters repeatedly noted, the subject of Rove's security clearance has gone largely unreported by the news media. When the White House has faced questions about the clearance, it has repeatedly refused to answer, citing the "ongoing investigation."
Now that Rove is apparently no longer the subject of an "ongoing investigation" into the Plame matter, Media Matters hopes reporters will demand answers about his security clearance.

...for the Right. Will be touted as such...and used as ammo for Rove's cont'd security clearance. We'll never know.
it's more critical than ever that the dems find a voice. Rove will be in SwiftBoat mode moreso than ever before. We must define ourselves.
Now that the "ongoing investigation" is no longer ongoing, will the White House answer questions about Rove, as promised? Btw, Eschaton also is asking the same question.

Come on people...do you really think this administration would volunteer anything? Though Rove may be smiling, there is still, technically, an ongoing investigation. I predict the administration will continue to hide behind this fact until after 2008.
because presidential pardons are such a messy thing!
I wonder if Scooter is hoping for one in January 2009.
The entire episode with the Plame outing stinks to high heaven. However, calling for the stripping of Rove's security clearance is futile. The administration would appear to have so successfully obfuscated that proving any violations may be impossible. This MMFA item seems a bit like protesting an officiating call in the hopes of changing the results, but the match is already over.
Maybe he could be charged with crimes against humanity? After all, he's mostly responsible for saddling the country with the worst President in modern history.
for a final report by Fitzgerald. I wonder what he has to say about it.
OK, now it was leaked that Rove's indictment was imminent -- by whom? Reference Rove's bugging of his own office in a past election campaign (Texas); could it be that Rove leaked his own pending "indictment" knowing he was close to being let off of the hook, freeing him to claim VICTORY!!!
What a sham.
The whole thing stinks to high heaven. My suspicion has always been that Rove participated but was not the originator of the leak. That was Cheney. Rove should have had his security clearance revoked a long time ago but this administration knew that nothing could be pinned on him. Remember in the beginning when Fitzgerald said that we may never know who leaked since Libby lied initially. Way to take one for the team Scooter. You're doing a heckuva job! Did I hear somebody say Pardon?
You gotta be kidding. Rove knows where all the bodies are buried. I guarantee that he knows enough to put Bush and Cheney in federal prison. I look for him to get a Medal of Freedom any day now.
Rove has added the Zarquawi death in his tool box for the 2006 elections. He said that if the US had cut and ran we wouldn't have gotten him. Please read the following excerpt from this news week article - Maybe he'd better let the Zarqawi thing go - They could have gotten him and prevented much of what has taken place in Iraq.
"When the Americans attacked Afganastan in 2001 , Zarquawi and the remenants of his followers fled to northern Iraq (via Iran) in a remote mount region beyond SADAM'S CONTROL. He was said to be developing crude chemical bombs. THE PENTAGON DEVELOPED PLANS TO BOMBED ZARQUAWI'S CAMP BUT THE WHITE HOUSE WITHHELD IT'S APPROVAL. A former US Intellegeince officer said they were told it would disrupt the war planning. IT WAS A REAL OPPORTUNITY LOST." They used Zarqawi's presence and activities to further sell the need for the war. The article goes on further to say "there is no evidence that Sadam's government was aware of his presence. He (Zarqawi) rushed into the power vacum left by the overthrow of the Sadam regime in the spring of 2003.

Karl's boss is dad-gum, above da Law.
Guess no bodies are gonna do any squealin, —cause no bodies are gonna hear anything. ¶No Rove, no Novak, no Cheney, no media, no press, nobody— and no hiding neither—cuz...they're all greased-up!
In this brand of Texas Hold'em, you reach out and... They just slip right through... then run away.
They laugh behind closed doors.
I believe Rove has admitted that he leaked Plame's name as an agent of the CIA--then WHY has Fitzgerald refused to indict him? Fitzgerald is investigating the leak--why is he saying that Rove--who admitted his guilt--is innocent? Who bribed whom? Or who blackmailed whom? Or is there some other reason?
