Coulter hides behind 9-11 widows after attacking liberals for doing the same
SUMMARY: On Scarborough Country, Ann Coulter purported to defend her attacks on some of the widows of September 11 victims, claiming that she has "heard from lots of 9-11 widows who think I wasn't harsh enough."
On the June 26 edition of MSNBC's Scarborough Country, right-wing pundit Ann Coulter defended her hateful comments about some of the widows of victims killed in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Coulter, who has accused liberals of using 9-11 widows as "human shields" to blunt criticism of their views, claimed "I've heard from lots of 9-11 widows who think I wasn't harsh enough." As Media Matters for America has noted, on Page 103 of her book Godless: The Church of Liberalism (Crown Forum), Coulter unleashed the following attack on the 9-11 widows who criticized the Bush administration's handling of terrorism: "These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by grief-arazzis. I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much."
Coulter did not name the 9-11 widows who allegedly said her attacks were insufficiently harsh.

JOE SCARBOROUGH (host) : So I want to talk about the media firestorm you've been in the past couple of weeks. And I want to start with the question, is there anything that you've said about the 9-11 widows or on any other subject that you wish you could have taken -- you wish you could take back or that you may have measured your words more carefully with, or do you stand by everything you've said?
COULTER: Are you seriously asking that question?
SCARBOROUGH: Yeah, I --
COULTER: Do you want to retract that question?
SCARBOROUGH: No, I don't, because --
COULTER: And by the way --
SCARBOROUGH: But I'm curious -- go ahead.
COULTER: It was nothing about the 9-11 widows. It was about four liberal women in New Jersey cutting campaign commercials for Kerry. I've heard from lots of 9-11 widows who think I wasn't harsh enough. They do not speak for 9-11 widows. In fact, in my book, if you read that section -- a small section of a chapter -- I demanded to hear from some of the other 9-11 widows, maybe the wives of firemen rather than these four women claiming to speak for all 9-11 widows, while opposing everything Bush is doing in the war on terrorism and promoting the 9-11 Commission.

Bullcrap. Ann simply made that up, the way she makes up just about everything else she spews.
She's a liar, plagiarist, rabble-rousing right-winger who is laughing at the suckers who bought her waste-of-good-toilet-paper book, all the way to the bank.
She's lying. That's the same as Bush saying "Some say..." all the time. I would BET you Coulter has never spoken to a widow of a 9/11 victim. Just a hunch.
Coulter lives in a world of unintended irony.
Many call her a satirist, but she never really uses satire. When we use satire, we say the opposite of what we believe to drive home an ironic point.
If Coulter is a satirist, she can only be making fun of the very ideas she seems to take so seriously.
Either way, nothing she says has any credibility. She is a complete waste of time. I'm bored with her.
But, the REAL fun will begin when her own people become bored with her... then they'll eat her alive (the harsh end-point in the world of animals).
They're not just bored. There is a web page, I think it's called Coulterwatch, sponsored BY CONSERVATIVES. They're afraid--rightly it seems--that she's making the right look stark raving mad.

No, not really. Here is how satire is defined in my Webster's New World Dictionary (2nd College edition):
Satire: n. 1. a) A literary work in which vices, follies, stupidities, abuses, etc. are held up to ridicule and contempt; b) such literary works collectively or the art of writing them; 2. the use of ridicule, sarcasm, irony, etc. to expose, attack, or deride vices, follies, etc.

I would have to say that the garbage Coulter spews out does seem to fit the definition of satire, though it's a rather crude form - she is not quite in the same league as famous literary satirists like Rabelais, Swift, Twain, Orwell, and Aldous Huxley ([link to en.wikipedia.org]

While everyone else seems to be offended by this woman, I have just been painfully bored by her. I have said that I think she is mocking right-wing dolts.
Why is she allowed to continue to spew her hate on NBC owned networks?
NBC is using her to hike ratings. They advertise her appearances as "what will she say next?" in hopes that people will tune in to watch the freakshow.

The amazing thing is that conservative pundits actually defend her while the Republicans stay silent. Maybe she speaks for them more than they want you to know.

I think it's possible she could have heard from a couple of them. I highly doubt all of them fall on the same side of the fence, politically. But frankly, if you want to be believed, try naming names, or even bringing one or two of them on your show.

This is a little off topic but still relevant to the thread I believe. I was listening to Hannity's radio show on the way to work yesterday afternoon and I heard something that made me so upset i nearly crashed my car. Some other right wing bobble head was subbing for Hannity and they were interviewing people at random on the street and asking them for their view on current issues. They talked to one woman who was against the war in Iraq, to which the host countered, I just interviewed 3 families who all lost loved ones in Iraq and they think George W Bush is great. Sounds to me like conservative infallibility.
At least if she was pretty I could understand her popularity, but I just don't get why she is in the media all the time...

"he [bush] did not recall discussing the aug 6 report with the attorney general or whether rice had done so." page 260. gee, why bother discussing a report headlined "bin ladin determined to strike in u.s." after all, there's brush to be cleared.

Like old "Tail-gunner" Joe McCarthy, the Red-baiting junior senator of the Fifties, who liked to make wild accusastions about Communists in the Army and the government while refusing to name names, Ann Coulter makes claims she's unwilling to corraborate. Unless she is willing to name even one 9/11 widow who supports her comments, she should shut up and crawl back under the rock from whence she came. It's a pity that the Joe McCarthys, Rush Limbaughs, Ann Coulters, and Bill O'Reillys are like cockroaches. They will never be totally eradicated. Our only hope is to elect responsible people to government and attempt to keep them on the margins where their vitriol, lies, and warped agenda do as little harm as possible.
