Tell Disney and ABC to stop playing partisan politics with 9-11

Disney reveals clear double standard on inaccurate, pro-conservative "docudrama"

As Media Matters for America has pointed out -- and nearly everyone from 9-11 Commission members and members of Congress to prominent conservative pundits and executives at ABC has already acknowledged -- Disney-owned ABC's upcoming "docudrama" The Path to 9/11 is a fabricated, inaccurate, and misleading portrayal of the events leading up to 9-11, one which Disney and ABC deceptively marketed as a documentary-style film based on the 9-11 Commission report.

It has become apparent in recent days that Disney's production is rife with factual errors, inaccuracies, and omissions, and it relies on scenes that even those involved in its production readily admit are fabricated. The movie's premise, reportedly, joins the cause of right-wing conservatives in blaming former President Bill Clinton for the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks while simultaneously letting President Bush off the hook.

But ABC's corporate parent, The Walt Disney Co., appears to be employing a double standard. It refused to distribute Michael Moore's film Fahrenheit 9/11, which was highly critical of President Bush, even though it was produced by a Disney subsidiary, Miramax Films. Disney representatives also reportedly threatened to sue the publisher of James Stewart's book DisneyWar if it contained inaccuracies.

It does not speak well of Disney's credibility when it refuses to distribute a progressive movie and threatens legal action against some inaccuracies, and yet will stand silent while its ABC subsidiary spends millions of dollars making a miniseries that distorts history to falsely blame President Clinton for the 9-11 attacks.

Please contact Disney and urge it not to broadcast this false attack on President Clinton -- and remind it of its refusal to distribute a film critical of President Bush.

Before 9/11, there was a serious attempt on the part of the Clinton administration to warn the incoming Bush administration of the seriousness of the Bin Lauden group. The Bushies were too busy with tax cuts for the rich to give any time (documented in a Time magazine cover story). Warnings came from everywhere but were ignored. Now, our "New Age" neocons want to try to put the blame on someone else again, a novel concept from this crew.

There was plenty wrong with the Clinton administration, dealing with Islamic extremeism was not one of their faults. With the Bush administration, everyone else looks pretty good by comparison. Trying to make it otherwise is a disservice to those who died on 9/11.

Suggestions for further action: Take every Disney tape/CD out of your home and send it back to Disney. Explain to Disney that you will not shop at a Disney store or visit a Disney theme park. Tell ABC that you will refuse to watch any ABC programming. (Then do it.) Write to the people who advertise on ABC and boycott their products. (Then do it.) Tell both Disney and ABC that you will make absolutely certain that your mutual funds are never invested there.

After that, you can tell them both that this affair has been a tipping point for you. You will now do everything in your power to get Democrats elected. THEN DO IT!

If you don't have any Disney tapes or CDs in your home, go to a thrift store and buy some. Then send them to Disney.

What a great way to help the poor while you're at it!

I have written to Disney about doing a revised version of the movie "Pillow Talk" which starred Rock Hudson. My suggestion for leading roles are Karl Rove, Pres. Bush and that wonderful newsman, Mr. Gannon. I have firmly stated that it should be very accurate and honest. I feel that the screen play should be written by John Mark Karr to lend true credibility as this "911 Disney Movie". Although it may sound petty, I believe that National Security has been leaked in the past around "Pillow Talk." And to play Doris Days' role, just leave Laura Bush in the dark as she is now. Sorry Dick(Cheney) no need for a foursome.

P.S. As Rush would say, just kidding......maybe!! Also, Disney has said it is in the works...maybe.

THe address I have for corporate headquarters is The Walt Disney CO. 500 S Buena Vista St Burbank CA 91521-9722 I'm sending it attn Robert A Iger

Buzz Patterson, LtCol, USAF, Ret, served in clinton white house 3 yrs as the football handler, author of the nyt bestseller "dereliction of duty":

This is his experience attempting to get berger's or president's attention when black ops teams had obl in sights:

"On four occassions i was turned away directly. Yet another occassion when i went to notify the president while he and the first lady were watching the president's cup, hillary became enraged at the interruption, tossed a lamp at myself, striking me on the face. The lacerations required treatment at Bethesda Naval Hospital. FBI & Secret Service personnel witnessed the exchange.

During my tenure in the WH, numerous military watch officers reported similar treatment. Some were sent on meaningless errands, such as escorting secret service personnel to andrews to pick up chelsea, or take her shopping."

The phony "documdrama", written by one of Rush Limbaugh's friends has the signature of Karl Rove's strategy all over it- Rove has pointed out that the right has to go after the opposition party's strong points, and cause enough confusion and doubt among the electorate to blunt any leaning toward the Demos. Clearly, that's what we've got here with the Congressional elections coming up. That George Bush's White House was completely unprepared for 9-11 is fairly well documented- That is why they fought tooth and nail to prevent any official investigation. Not only were they completely unprepared, but as in the case of counter terrorism offiical Richard White, the Bush White House actively sought to punish and suppress White for his clear message in Aug 01 that a major attack against the US involving aircraft was practically imminent. (Of course that was Dick Cheney's doing, and it makes one wonder if Cheney didnt try to tuck Bush into bed in Crawford Texas for the month of August to keep him out of the way...) So the Republican Right is doing what they've done all along. They could care less about denounciations- as long as they get the propaganda aired , mission accompliished. A few million Americans will be moved in the direction of believing that this was Clinton's fault when the actual evidence points to Bush and company. While it may not be possible to stop that airing, the Republican Right and ABC should be made to pay a steep political price by making this ugly little deceit a major campaign, and going after the louts directly involved Disney executives, the reactionar pro SHAH persian -american writer, and holding these people up for disdain and disgustat their contemptible behavior at any opportunity. The Republican Righthas no fondness for democrac, and has only contempt for efforts to find common values with them as Americans. The limits of their power are set only by active and strenous opposition to their schemes, and we cannot be afraid of impolite behavior when it comes to this batch of political thugs.

Folks, the answer to the ABC problems with the truth is in our hands. Simply make a list of program sponsors and refuse to buy their products. Tell your friends to boycott the sponsors of the program and write to the sponsors telling them you will not buy their products as long as they sponsor propaganda.
