CBS' Wallace claimed voters "don't want to see Democrats in control of the Congress" -- polling shows otherwise
On the October 23 broadcast of the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, CBS News political analyst and former Bush White House communications director Nicolle Wallace claimed, "At the end of the day, no matter how discontent some voters are, they really don't want to see Democrats in control of the Congress." Recent polling, however, indicates that a majority of voters do want to see Democrats take control of Congress.
In an October 19-22 Cook Political Report/RT Strategies poll, 57 percent of "most-likely voters" indicated that they would prefer a Democrat-controlled Congress, compared with 35 percent who said they would prefer Republicans, when asked: "[R]egardless of how you might plan to vote in your own district, which party would you like to see in control of Congress after the congressional elections in November?" Among registered voters, the poll found that 49 percent preferred a Democratic Congress, while 37 percent favored Republicans.
Similarly, an October 19-20 Newsweek poll found that 55 percent of registered voters preferred that the Democrats take control of Congress. Just 32 percent wanted the Republicans to remain in power.
From the October 23 broadcast of the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric:
WALLACE: Well, I don't think the president creates as much of a problem for Republicans or any incumbent as this general sense, as Mike said, that voters have that Washington isn't working. And I think that has as much to do with some of the scandals having to do with big Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff, with some of the other issues they've had. They're not running a candidate, and Tom DeLay --
KATIE COURIC (anchor): But the president's standing, Nicolle, really is a drag for a lot of these candidates.
WALLACE: Well, the president has made difficult decisions, and certainly Republican operatives put this all under a category that they call the climate. At the end of the day, no matter how discontent some voters are, they really don't want to see Democrats in control of the Congress.

Interesting that she's still acting as an apologist for Puddinhead George, even though she's no longer on the White House payroll...or is she?
This "difficult decisions" dodge is right out of Karl Rove's talking points playbook.
Is she for real? How else will the public see changes in our federal gov't? ("At the end of the day"---typical British jargon, typical monarchist)
More malarky from the Bush operatives, no surprise there.
Sadly, it seems that Mike Wallace, who is about a thousand years old, is much sharper than Nicolle Wallace.

If the "pole" I'm sitting on says I win then we should just cancel the election...OK?
Are you a GOPer? Seems to me it's only the Repubs that want to cancel elections. Remember this from 2 years ago?

WWAAAAAHHHH stop talking about how unpopular my fearless leader is. Stop talking about how unpopular my party is. I am scared enough about the coming elections.
We need YOU! Could you please make yourself available to translate for all the networks? You could be in a "picture in picture" box, or you could write subtitles, whatever. Please? Pleeeeeease? Pretty please with sugar on top?
I could be convinced
"At the end of the day, no matter how discontent some voters are, they really don't want to see Democrats in control of the Congress."
I think Ms. Wallace is trying to be cute with her words. It could be said that "some" voters don't want the Democrats in control. That "some" however is the minority (37% of those polled).
...under your interpretation.
If she's saying that even among the "some voters" who are disontented with Bush, the majority don't want Democrats in control of Congress, that is false. Among that subset, even more want Democrats to control Congress than among the general population.
Perhaps the subset she is talking about his her, and Fox news commentators
Freedom of Speech with Sean Hannity quoting John Kerry while the Inteligence Committee was being fed the lies that was the intelligence coming out of the Operation Iraqi Liberation & Iraqi National Congress and this segment was overtly a media conglomerate and it's propagandist Katie Couric promoting the RNC message.
We are no longer a free society, we have slept though the coupe and corporate suits have assumed power. Fascism!
We have little opportunity left to take our freedoms back without an armed struggle, and the title of this post is that last opportunity.

How do you draw the conclusion that my criticism of the obsession with "poles" has anything to do with my political leanings?
You sound defensive and insecure. Are you not convinced that Dems will prevail based on all the "poles"?
See, we don't like corporate-controlled voting machines voting for corporate-friendly candidates regardless of who pulls the levers.
Watch on election day as pundits are "amazed" by the "surprising" late surge in GOP turnout. Watch them spend the next few days afterward speculating on what could have fired up the GOP base in such a "climate."
Polish voters have nothing to do with this discussion. Please leave your racism at the door.
Scott is uberinsecure! So if your "poles" are meaningless....why the obsession?
Is it just to create a temporary state of false elation as if you actually won an election?

Good one Scott, you're obviously an uberintellectual.
Whoosh. Right over his head. Were you one of the people who criticized Franken because "Operation Ignore" was a ficticious satirical device?
Sorry scottie, Abu Al Franken is only relevant in your land of make believe.
Ah...I know who you are.
So your use of "poles" instead of "polls" was a mispelling? Ah. Gotcha.
Can you be anymore trans-Rove-parent? It is just sickening how some pundits ignore not only the "climate" but poll after poll indicating a change is in the air. After several years of Repub rule, why the heck would someone speculate that "voters" prefer these syncophantic do-nothings to ANY kind of change, I don't care if the Whigs are taking over. As a political "analyist" Ms. Wallace needs to read something besides those Oval Office faxes.
Two more weeks.
Nicolle Wallace on television running her ignorant mouth.
...I do believe the "Wesley Test" is called for... CB you can lead the march.
as a blonde.
I often wonder where the "Liberal Media" is that I keep hearing about. What the hell is Nicolle Wallace doing other than being a mouth piece for the spinmiester Rove. She appears to still be a Bush talker, and is attempting to address the a new talking points in the pre-election scurry. It is something that will be repeated many times over the next two weeks. Expect "FEAR and SMEAR" tactics to go into propaganda overdrive. Watch Kieth Olbermans piece from last night if you have chance. It was great, addressed Bush and the RNC media attack. WWW.crooksandliars.com The RNC needs to review the facist playbook when it comes to lying and disinformation. "The masses are far more likely to believe a big lie than several small ones." (Adolf Hitler)
It seems as if theres some unspoken wordout there in T.V land that no matter what positves are said about the dems there must be a negative raised. Two cases in point. When nancy pelosi was on 60 minutes I was impressed by her family history raising five(5) kids and having (5) grands. Any parent can relate to that and not ever hear of any problems in their up bringing. As I say any parent can relate. Obama possibly running for president Another. They say pelosi is from california and that supposed to have some affect on her leadership quality. They say OBAMA is to light on expierence sounds like some one whose therenow. The channels keep showing the polls that the dems are poised to win but there always seem to be aBUT.HURRY UP AND GET HERE 11/7/06
Working the refs in the context of the media. Unless you balance anything positive said about a liberal with a negative then its liberal bias, if you EVER balance a positive said about a conservative with a negative THAT is also liberal bias. Its the same thing wingnuts in this chat do when you criticise US foriegn policy by jumping on us for not 'balancing' it with negatives about terrorists or a long laundry list of all the good things the US has ever done, when you EVER compare what enemies did with what WE have dont that is a hate America bias. If you dont preface ANY criticism of Israel with a laundry list of what their enemies have dont THAT is bias but if you EVER balance what Israels enemies have done with a reference to what Israel has done THAT is also bias. Its a transparent tactic but somehow it has worked on the media, scared to death to be labelled with a liberal bias.
The headline reads voters "don't want............" But if you go clear to the end of the story, you actually find that SOME discontented voters (read fed up with Bush and the shenanigans in Congress) don't want............ Headline on this one is a little misleading but it is stirring up the posters.
after a sickening pro-Bush rant someone on this site (I don't remember who) actually wrote in imploring people to "cut her some slack" because it was her first day. Well how long has she been there now. I think she's been given ample opportunity to shed any past biases and report the facts. Maybe she should read the result of her own network's polls Q: Who would you favor to control Congress in the next session? A: Democrats-54% Republicans-37%. If she had any jounalistic integrity she would do her homework before she opens her mouth. If she has been engaging in this sort of misinformation campaign since her first day on the job then the network should show some jounalistic integrity and fire her. But if they'll let Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity have a forum on their free speech segment I suppose integrity is too much to hope for.
