SUMMARY: Glenn Beck claimed that "the forces of radical Islam and political correctness have conspired to slowly gain power and influence" in Europe and that "the continent is on the precipice of civil war." He further predicted that the United States "very well could be next ... [i]t may only be a matter of time before it happens in Detroit or New York or Chicago." He concluded, "We could be on the verge of a global religious civil war."

On the October 23 edition of his CNN Headline News program, Glenn Beck claimed: "In France, in England, in Russia, other major countries, the forces of radical Islam and political correctness have conspired to slowly gain power and influence. And the continent is on the precipice of civil war. We very well could be next." Beck also described "political correctness" in Europe as leading to a "holy war." He added that "Paris is literally on fire, and soon, London and Moscow will follow," and that "[i]t may only be a matter of time before it happens in Detroit or New York or Chicago," concluding, "We could be on the verge of a global religious civil war."

As Media Matters for America has noted, Beck has previously claimed that "[t]he Middle East is being overrun by 10th-century barbarians" and "[i]f they take over ... we're going to have to nuke the whole place." He has also said that violence in the Middle East is evidence that "it is the end of days."

From the October 23 edition of CNN Headline News' Glenn Beck:

BECK: Well, tonight, if you want to see our future, I want you to take a look at what's going on in Europe right now. In France, in England, in Russia, other major countries, the forces of radical Islam and political correctness have conspired to slowly gain power and influence. And the continent is on the precipice of civil war. We very well could be next.

Here is the point tonight. The perfect storm that I've been talking about for a while on this program is gaining strength. In Europe and all around the globe, the storm clouds are gathering, and the forecast isn't calling for an awful lot of sunshine, unless we stop the wave of political correctness. If we don't, we will someday wake to a vastly different and horrifying world.

[...]

BECK: It is becoming very clear the seeds for a holy war have been planted in Europe, and political correctness is the water which has helped it grow. Radical Muslims see the European fields as white and ready for harvest.

[...]

BECK: Here's what I know tonight. In their effort to never offend anyone and to promote everybody's culture as just as great as everybody else's, Europe is now finding itself surrounded by a deadly enemy that is embedded in their own ranks. Paris is literally on fire, and soon, London and Moscow will follow.

It may be only a matter of time before it happens in Detroit or New York or Chicago. We could be on the verge of a global religious civil war. And we must pay attention.

[...]

BECK: Yeah, but you know, this is all being blamed on, well, they're not being, you know, taken seriously for the best jobs, et cetera, et cetera. This is being construed into some sort of, well, people just hate them, because they're different or because of their race. And that's bullcrap.

I know Beck is wetting his pants in anticipation of this global religious war but this perhaps the stupidest thing I have heard uttered by an ignoramus playing a character. The world is ending help me help me. Or is it how can I add fuel to the fire so I can help it end sooner to hasten the arrival of the 12th Imam-er I mean Jesus. Surely I can help bring about armageddon just to prove I am right about the scriptures. Right? What sermon on the mount are you talking about? Blessed are the doomsayers? I think it is rich are the fear exploiters.

There's no such thing as a "global civil war." Or even a continental one.

i'm from belgium, small country north of france and west of germany. I've been following the items on media matters for a long time, cos i'm really interested in listening to the american media, it's not possible for me to actually listen live to all this stuff. And the stuff this guy says, well, there are really no words to express how funny this is, were it not that it appears that a lot of people actually believe this nonsense. In the rare cases that the subject of europe comes up with the neocons, i'm always surprised how much better they seem to know us, they apparantly know us better than we know ourselves. They know everything about our public discourse, about our form of governance (which is probably one of the most difficult subjects in politics, understanding the way the european union works, a subject which i often find very difficult and confusing), about our poverty levels (which can all be blamed on our superhigh taxes, and is the reason democrats shouldn't be elected). I've always been taught that if you don't know much about a subject, it's best to try and learn, and not to shoot your mouth off showing your ignorance. That makes you look extremely ridiculous, especially to those that know much more about the subject in question.

One thing that's on the rise in America today is ignorance. It seems there is a market for ignorant, uninformed talking heads in our country today. It's a very sad state of affairs. They ridicule science and any kind of inquisitiveness and require blind faith.

Beck is the latest slug to crawl out of the ooze. It's the only kind of evolution that the right in this country accepts. Social Darwinism.

I don't think Beck has crawled out of the ooze. He seems to be happy wallowing around in it.

That's insulting to slugs and invertebrates everywhere. Beck isn't the way he his by some grand genetic design. He's that way, because he wants to be, and that makes it even more pathetic.

I apologize to all of the invertebrates and single celled organisms that share the slime pit with lesser life forms such as Beck.

but i'm not exactly new here, i have posted once in a while, and been mostly reading all of this stuff (including watching all daily show and colbert stuff on the comedy central website, got too much time on my hand), so i got a pretty good idea already of what kind of people darken the american airwaves and such :) . This is a hugely interesting website for people like me, both the articles and the comments posted here

The Muslim Religion in France is second only to Catholicism. More than 11 percent of the population is Muslim. In the UK it's not quite 3 percent but is growing. What do you suggest, deporting those who don't blend in back to their ancestors homelands? Multiculturalism is less a danger than the reactionary jingoism that the right has been spouting for the last several years.

Is it anything like what went on in the southern part of the U.S. since this country’s inception to the 1960s [or even now in some communities]?

Basque seperatists? Or Sri Lankas problem with ethnic Tamils? Lets stop blaming ALL of the worlds ills on Islam, the radical Islamists have enough to answer for without making up new fantasies about civil war in Europe and blaming them. I understand wingnuts NEED that boogeyman to justify their unjustifyable wars. Lets at least remain in the reality based universe.

Your proctologist has apparantly found YOURS. Your paranoia about multiculturalism is just juvenile. Neither France nor England is on the brink of civil war. I notice we have a poster from Belgium if I am not mistaken they have spoken two languages there for centuries. Flemish (which I understand to be a type of Dutch) and French. I dont notice any civil wars in Belgium. I would make a comment about wingnuts since you gratuitously slammed the left but seriously you are just not bright enough for any group to claim so it really wouldnt be fair. Only inhabitants of Plantet Wingnut with no reality allowed whatsoever are in your league when it comes to reality denial.

I am not sure political correctness is the issue. But, trying to get grips with keeping france france is causing problems. Google "france Muslim police". France is almost in civil war between the police and the muslim community, but you hear nothing here about it. It is crazy over there.

This has sure been a holy month of peece.....

It's happening throughout the entire city. This isn't some isolated area, with gangs carrying drive by shootings. It's a full on assault on the city, and they it's being carried out by the "unidentified youth". They can't even state who's carrying out the violence.

The Imams there are telling the youth that they don't have to respect the laws, because they aren't Islamic laws.

          Get a clue.
