Fox & Friends hosts touted WorldNetDaily, NY Sun allegations that terrorists "hope Americans sweep the Democrats into power because of the party's position on withdrawawing from Iraq"
SUMMARY: Fox & Friends co-hosts Brian Kilmeade and Gretchen Carlson touted articles on right-wing website WorldNetDaily.com and in the The New York Sun purporting to show that, in Carlson's words, "[s]enior terrorist leaders" have indicated "that they hope Americans sweep the Democrats into power because of the party's position on withdrawing from Iraq."
On the November 3 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends, co-hosts Brian Kilmeade and Gretchen Carlson touted articles on right-wing website WorldNetDaily.com and in the New York Sun, which purported to show that, in Carlson's words, "[s]enior terrorist leaders" have indicated "that they hope Americans sweep the Democrats into power because of the party's position on withdrawawing from Iraq." Carlson said the article in WorldNetDaily (WND), which she described as a "newspaper," demonstrates "how people around the world want the American elections to go." Kilmeade added that "many people feel as though to get Bush out would be a victory for the terrorists" -- despite the fact that Bush is not on a ballot this year -- and claimed that a transcript of House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi's (CA) appearance on the October 22 edition of CBS' 60 Minutes "apparently ... got to the caves and the tunnels of the terrorist leader[s]." According to WorldNetDaily, "WND read Pelosi's remarks [on 60 Minutes] to the terror leaders, who unanimously rejected her contention an American withdrawal would end the insurgency." Throughout the segment, an onscreen text read: "Terrorists say Dems will encourage troop withdrawal."
According to investigative reporter Ron Suskind's recent book, The One Percent Doctrine: Deep Inside America's Pursuit of Its Enemies Since 9/11 (Simon & Schuster, June 2006), CIA analysts determined that a propaganda tape released by Osama bin Laden in the days before the 2004 presidential election "was clearly designed to assist the President's reelection" (pp. 335-336), as Media Matters for America has documented.
Nevertheless, as Media Matters has noted, conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh recently stated that increased violence in Iraq signified that "terrorists have voted Democrat"; Fox News host Bill O'Reilly claimed that "the reason North Korea is causing trouble" by allegedly developing and testing nuclear weapons is that it "hate[s] Mr. Bush and want[s] to weaken him as much as possible"; and President Bush, during an October 30 campaign speech, claimed that a Democratic victory in the midterm elections would mean that "terrorists win and America loses."
The author of the New York Sun article, Steven Stalinsky, is the executive director of the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), which describes itself as an "independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit" group that "explores the Middle East through the region's media." As Media Matters has noted, National Review White House correspondent Byron York touted a MEMRI translation, disputed by numerous scholars and experts, that indicated that Osama bin Laden threatened individual U.S. states not to vote for Bush during the 2004 presidential election.
The author of the WorldNetDaily article, Aaron Klein, has similarly promoted inflammatory statements by terrorists in the past; indeed, the terrorists Klein quotes in his article have appeared in his reporting before. According to the website ConWebWatch (edited by Terry Krepel, a web editor at Media Matters), one terrorist Klein quotes, Jihad Jaara, a senior member of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades currently living in exile in Ireland, did an interview with Klein, detailed in a January 1 WND article, in which Klein asked Jarra if his group "used pages of the Bible as toilet paper" during a 2002 siege at the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. Another terrorist Klein quoted, Abu Ayman of Islamic Jihad, in an October 31 WND article, told Klein that Ramadan prayers "helped the mujahedeen fighters to mark a great victory" over the United States in Iraq.
From the November 3 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends:
KILMEADE: And [co-host] Steve [Doocy], The New York Sun and WorldNetDaily quotes the Hamas military wing leader, Islamic Jihad leader, another Hamas leader and then another ayatollah, Javadi-Amoli over in Iran, they have one thing in common. They are saying they are pushing to vote out Bush and to push for those who are against him and those of his ilk. So, they are all saying that a Democratic vote -- and this has got to really worry, because certainly they're not trying to woo the terrorists -- but many people feel as though to get Bush out would be a victory for the terrorists, and even the terrorists are essentially saying that by going for the other side. Are you amazed how much they must be watching and following the American political system?
[...]
CARLSON: Also, if you ever want to put your finger on the pulse of how people around the world want the American elections to go, well, all you have to do is check out an article by the WorldNetDaily that says that --
KILMEADE: This is incredible.
CARLSON: -- senior terrorist leaders have told this newspaper that they hope Americans sweep the Democrats into power because of the party's position on withdrawing from Iraq. And why do they care about that? Because the senior terrorist leaders say, "Hey, if you guys withdraw from Iraq, that means that you're tired of the situation over there, and it's a victory for us." It's a victory for the insurgents.
KILMEADE: Yeah, and it's not just terrorists. I'll give you the organization -- the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, and this guy that was in charge of it -- that took over one of those famous churches in there recently. He comes out and he says -- he goes, "Of course we think America should vote Democratic, that's why American Muslims support Democrats across their country. There's an atmosphere in America that encourages those who want to withdraw from Iraq, and we want that feeling." A senior leader in the Islamic Jihad says, "As Arabs and Muslims we feel proud of this talk, very proud of the Iraqi resistance, the success that brought the big superpower to talk of withdrawal." Now that withdrawal not coming from the White House -- so you put it together. The Hamas military wing leader, Abu Abdullah -- sorry Abu, I messed up your last name -- says this proves the strategy of resistance is working. "Their agents in Iraq have no chance of surviving, even if they withdraw."
And Nancy Pelosi on 60 Minutes -- evidently that transcript got to the caves and the tunnels of the terrorist leader. This Islamic Jihad says -- because Nancy Pelosi says, "If we leave Iraq, then the insurgents will leave Iraq, the terrorists will leave Iraq." And the leader has heard these remarks and says there is no chance the resistance will stop.
From the November 2 WorldNetDaily.com article:
Everybody has an opinion about next Tuesday's midterm congressional election in the U.S. -- including senior terrorist leaders interviewed by WND who say they hope Americans sweep the Democrats into power because of the party's position on withdrawing from Iraq, a move, as they see it, that ensures victory for the worldwide Islamic resistance.
The terrorists told WorldNetDaily an electoral win for the Democrats would prove to them Americans are "tired."
They rejected statements from some prominent Democrats in the U.S. that a withdrawal from Iraq would end the insurgency, explaining an evacuation would prove resistance works and would compel jihadists to continue fighting until America is destroyed.
They said a withdrawal would also embolden their own terror groups to enhance "resistance" against Israel.
"Of course Americans should vote Democrat," Jihad Jaara, a senior member of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades terror group and the infamous leader of the 2002 siege of Bethlehem's Church of the Nativity, told WND.
[...]
In a recent interview with CBS's "60 Minutes," House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, stated, "The jihadists (are) in Iraq. But that doesn't mean we stay there. They'll stay there as long as we're there."
Pelosi would become House speaker if the Democrats win the majority of seats in next week's elections.
WND read Pelosi's remarks to the terror leaders, who unanimously rejected her contention an American withdrawal would end the insurgency.
Islamic Jihad's Saadi, laughing, stated, "There is no chance that the resistance will stop."

osama wanted bush kept in power. if you own company a, then you would prefer that company b kept being run by an utter incompetent who hands you everything on a silver platter.
...I would be sitting in my cave thinking how infinitely successful I have been. I would be thinking just how wonderful 9/11 had surpassed my wildest imagination. How wonderfully stupid GWB had played into my hands, how I went from being some fringe criminal into being a major power player of great stature. How I could never had done this with Clinton as president. How I've turned the allies against the Americans, how upset the Israelis are. Yes, if I were OBL, I would be a happy man right now.
Osama and friends chose to attack the shores of the U.S.A. during the administration of Republican George W. Bush and pals, not during the administration of Democrat William J. Clinton? Osama and friends plan their actions carefully. They don't appear to waste time, money, manpower, or other resources. They pick their battles when and where they know they can both win and cause the most destruction. For the past 8 years, Bushco has stupidly and relentlessly been pursuing the exact path desired by bin Laden. Need I say more?
I can sum up WorldNetDaily reporting in two sentences:
"They're all out to get us! Kill them first!"
I've listened to far too many paranoid war criminal wanna-be's repeating WorldNetDaily, which is run by a hardcore "patriot" who wants to see the US flag flying over every capital in the world.
It's hardcore for the genocidal.
Hi, I'm a "senior terror leader" checking in.I really want the Democrats to win, as I feel that they can sucker the frightened old ladies into sending their grandsons over here to be ambushed.
What's that? the Dems (some of them , at least) are more likely not to join in our reindeer games? That sucks, it's tough to have a Holy War when we're the only religious nuts on the field. I got confused by your campaign ads. Which party is the one that is more like us, with the "good and evil" and "God wants us to kill" platform? Oh, the Republicans! Yeah, sorry, keep them in. Sorry for the confusion.
You can easily clarify your confusion. Just ask yourself ONE question: What is the democrats plan for our troops in Iraq?
If you say, stay the course then you are more confused than anyone.
If you say, get out of Iraq as quick as possible then you agree completely with the terrorists (not unusual for a liberal to do)
If you say, stay until Iraq is capable of defending themselves then you are simply going with the republican plan.
I hope that helps you.
It's not just terrorists; it's the people of Iraq, too. It is often hard to comprehend the "we're always right even when we're wrong" mindset of the right wing.
Let's do a hypothetical here: say tomorrow, a country like, oh, Mexico invaded America (note: when debating with Republicans, it's always good to bring up topics that stir up racial tensions. This analogy with Canada is not nearly as good.. unless you mention them importing gay marriage or something.) Would you stand idly by as your government was reshaped to fit their needs; as your resources were taken as they pleased; with seemingly no care for the infrastructure that you rely on for daily life? Or would you fight back? How then, would you feel, if you turned on the news and heard them referring to you as a "terrorist" and if Mexico left, they were letting you, the "terrorists", win.
It's never as simple as you think.
Helps me realize that there is an audience for Mallard Fillmore, and helps me understand who Rush Limbaugh is still fooling.
Here's hoping your nurse gets lost taking you to the polls.
How about try to keep them alive, as opposed to the Republican plan, try to get them killed.
Getting out of Iraq is agreeing with the terrorists? HUH, the insurgents maybe the al Queda memo we intercepted recently said their big fear was we would leave Iraq and the recruits that the invasion made so easy to get would just go home. Invading Iraq was the biggest present Osama could ask for. His stated purpose is to bring Islamic law to secular Muslim countries, you know like Iraq WAS. So Bush in his stupidity became Osamas favorite American for giving him EXACTLY what he wanted because he is just flat dumb. Not unusual for conservatives.
Defend themselves against WHO? They are fighting AMONGST themselves. So unless you mean defend themselves against US, since we ARE the ones that invaded them that makes no sense, again not unusual for conservatives
I hope that helps you out.
It's the same plan they voted for 15 years running...to keep killing arab children for their AIPAC masters. The Party machine is promoting pro-war candidates over anti-war candidates and NO major Democrat has come out with any plan to leave Iraq.
Bob Casey is now running ads in Pennsylvania saying he wants US Special Forces to attack other nations. He doesn't specify which ones, but you can bet money they're all on Israel's hit list, like Lebanon and Syria. So all I see and hear from the actual Democrat politicians is escalation and expansion, not withdrawal and negotiation. Of course the Dem rank-n-file is living in their dream world claiming that their leaders want to end the war, but it's NOT what's coming out of the horses' mouths.
High profile Democrats opposing the war in Iraq including Dennis Kucinich and Russ Fiengold. Your conspiricy theory that it is all about Israel pulling our strings is one I dont find compelling. There is certainly a bit of that from some of the Neocons. I definitly think it has a lot more to do with Oil and Hegamony. IF it had been strictly about Israel they I think Syria would have been first on the list. It would be nice if MY party, that is the Green Party had some serious power and voting for them actually furthered any agenda but that is not the world we are living in. We have a choice between Dems and the GOP, in THAT choice its pretty clear which is better on the war issue, along with the torture issue the constitutional issues, and virtually every other issue. IF you are complaining there isnt enough of a difference between the two you are preaching to the choir. I have been saying that for two decades. There is a point where the perfect can be the enemy of the good. I think we are at that point. Do they both deserve crtiicism, you bet, to say there is no diffeence at all is baying at the moon.
al Queda fearing US withdrawl in Iraq:
[link to www.consortiumnews.com]
In June 2006, U.S. intelligence also learned from an intercepted al-Qaeda communiqué that bin Laden’s terrorist band wants to keep U.S. soldiers bogged down in Iraq as the best way to advance al-Qaeda’s goals.
“Prolonging the war is in our interest,” wrote “Atiyah,” one of bin Laden’s top lieutenants, in a letter dated Dec. 11, 2005. [For details, see Consortiumnews.com’s “Al-Qaeda’s Fragile Foothold.”]

Atiyah told Zarqawi that “the most important thing is that the jihad continues with steadfastness and firm rooting, and that it grows in terms of supporters, strength, clarity of justification, and visible proof each day. Indeed, prolonging the war is in our interest.” [Emphasis added.]
Actually they just want to meet the Dixie Chicks.
Ya baby, The Dixie Chicks! Those girls are not just hot, they can lay it down with the best musicians.
Blonde, talented, and real Americans whom believe in free speech and American Honor.
Where is Toby Keith and that Ford Commercial with him working for a living??? Anybody buy that, oops apparently not.
Imagery seems odd to me, Republican men seem more intent to watch Toby, a hairy man, instead of three beautiful blondes???
It's like the Republican Hollier than thou leadership is hiding in the closet.
Here, I'll come out, I''m a Democrat, and a happy heterosexual. There I said it!!
Now we need to start having those "Fat Ex-Wrestling Coach" Speakers come out!!! Or maybe a Boehner??
The "turrists" want the Democrats in power because Dems want to "cut and run" from Iraq . . .
Whereas, anyone who advocates "cutting and running" from Iraq is someone the turrists want in power . . .
Thus, last week when Dubya decided to drop "stay the course" for "constantly shifting tactics" in Iraq, even to the point of proposing an eighteen month timetable for the Iraqis to take over their own security {which, BTW, was the same amount of time that coward Murtha proposed}, he was really advocating "cut and run" . . .
AND IN CONCLUSION:
Therefore, the turrists REALLY want DUBYA in power!!
Alright!! Thanks for clearing that up, Faux & "Friends" . . . with "Friends" like these, the USA doesn't need any more enemies . . .
that the bush administration posted detailed nuclear bomb plans on the "internets".
