Morris on Clinton's purported religious beliefs: "[T]he ends fully justify the means"
On the January 23 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, host Sean Hannity featured Fox News political analyst Dick Morris to discuss Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's (D-NY) chances of becoming president in 2008. Morris agreed with Hannity's assertion that Clinton "can win," but he spent much of his time attacking her character, including what he claimed were her religious beliefs. Asserting that Clinton "has a deep-seated ideal of a liberal, nanny, socialist state" and "believes that it's a religious commitment," Morris purported to reveal that Clinton "feels the ends fully justify the means" and that she "consciously and deliberately is phony, manipulative, artificial, contrived, and she believes it is her duty to do that so that she can accomplish her objectives that she thinks are God's work."
Earlier in the segment, Morris claimed that she wears "a complete mask, a complete opposite of who she is."
Hannity concluded the segment by stating, "That's great insight and analysis, and I hope people are hearing you. Thank you, my friend."
As Media Matters for America noted, according to syndicated columnist Robert D. Novak, Morris is seeking contributions "to finance a critical film documentary of Sen. Hillary Clinton." According to Novak, in a mailing sent out by The Presidential Coalition, a group run by Republican activist and discredited former congressional staffer David Bossie, Morris wrote: "If you liked how the Swift Boat Veterans turned the tide against John Kerry, you understand how a top Clinton aide can turn the tables and stop a Clinton-style liberal from becoming the next president of the United States."
From the January 23 edition of ABC Radio Networks' The Sean Hannity Show:
MORRIS: You know, the thing is, every politician uses makeup, but Hillary's the only one that wears a mask.
HANNITY: Ouch.
MORRIS: Because, basically, every politician touches up their blemishes and doesn't let them show in public. Every politician conceals in public, you know, all of his personality. But Hillary wears a complete mask, a complete opposite of who she is.
[...]
HANNITY: But she can win, you believe that she -- odds are on that she is the next president of the United States.
MORRIS: Yes, I do. I believe that Hillary -- and I'll be glad to talk about that, but can I finish answering your question about what she's like first.
HANNITY: Sure.
MORRIS: She has a deeply -- she's an idealist, Sean. She has a deep-seated ideal of a liberal, nanny, socialist state -- it's what she believes ought to happen. She believes that it's a religious commitment. She believes that Christ was in favor of helping the poor, and she once said, how could anyone be a Republican and a Christian at the same time? She has the certitude of her own rectitude that all deeply religious people have. The problem is that most deeply religious people are religious both as to goals and as to means. They say, "My spirituality means I have to do good things, and I have to do good for good things -- I can't go out and do horrible things for good things because that's a violation of the way you've gotta act." She doesn't see that. She feels the ends fully justify the means, and therefore, she consciously and deliberately is phony, manipulative, artificial, contrived, and she believes it is her duty to do that so that she can accomplish her objectives that she thinks are God's work.
HANNITY: That's a pretty frightening scenario that you're outlining here.
MORRIS: I am.
[...]
HANNITY: That's great insight and analysis, and I hope people are hearing you. Thank you, my friend.

on the other hand, i don't think she has ever said god wants her to be president, unlike the guy presently in the white house.
She believes that Christ was in favor of helping the poor, and she once said, how could anyone be a Republican and a Christian at the same time?
Wow...! I have a newly found respect for Hillary Clinton. Dick Morris attributes to Hillary Clinton what is a long and deeply-held belief of my own. Thank you, Dick Morris...
O.K. guys - now I'm no Christian (I can hear the comments now - "Godless liberal!) but I DID study for the seminary and was a confirmed Lutheran before my change of convictions. I seem to remember something about the poor... and Christ's attitudes toward them... oh yeah. here it is...
Mat. 25:34 "Then I, the King, shall say to those at my right, 'Come, blessed of my Father, into the Kingdom prepared for you from the founding of the world. Mat. 25:35 For I was hungry and you fed me; I was thirsty and you gave me water; I was a stranger and you invited me into your homes; Mat. 25:36 naked and you clothed me; sick and in prison, and you visited me.' Mat. 25:37 "Then these righteous ones will reply, 'Sir, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you anything to drink? Mat. 25:38 Or a stranger, and help you? Or naked, and clothe you? Mat. 25:39 When did we ever see you sick or in prison, and visit you?' Mat. 25:40 "And I, the King, will tell them, 'When you did it to these my brothers you were doing it to me!' Mat. 25:41 Then I will turn to those on my left and say, 'Away with you, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his demons. Mat. 25:42 For I was hungry and you wouldn't feed me; thirsty, and you wouldn't give me anything to drink; Mat 25:43 a stranger, and you refused me hospitality; naked, and you wouldn't clothe me; sick, and in prison, and you didn't visit me.' Mat. 25:44 "Then they will reply, 'Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you?' Mat 25:45 "And I will answer, 'When you refused to help the least of these my brothers, you were refusing help to me.' Mat. 25:46 "And they shall go away into eternal punishment; but the righteous into everlasting life."
seems like he was pretty up on the whole "helping the poor" thing.
Just an observation...
So...those to Jesus' left ... the ones going to hell ... would actually be on the right ... and those going to Heaven ... would be on the left.
Interesting...
Re-writing Scripture, SGD?
Sure SPL,
Anyone can cherry-pick quotes. ;0)
no no no.. you have it all wrong. anyone can cherry-pick WMD intelligence from the CIA - it takes the DEVIL to quote scripture for his own purposes... GODLESS LIBERALS!!!
I like Jer 5: 26-27 Their evil deeds know no bounds, they do not fight the cause of the fatherless to win it. They dont seek justice for the poor. Should I not punish a nation such as this. (from memory)
Interesting statement, "She believes that Christ was in favor of helping the poor...". I don't think you need belief or faith that Christ favored helping the poor. You need faith to believe in the divinity of Jesus, or in heaven and hell, the second coming and God and all those types of things. You don't need faith to know Jesus preached helping poor people.
It tells me Dick is slightly "off" as in mentally ill. He does not have a good handle on objective vs subjective realities.
Actually, you do not even need to believe in the divinity of Christ of hold any religious position whatsoever to know that it is the right thing to do to help the poor (or anyone who is in need). Please understand that morals do not come from religion. In actuality, religion is an outgrowth or result of civilization and collective morality has helped to shape what religion is - not the other way around, as is typically accepted.
I am compelled to add more...
So, according to Dick Morris, beneath the cool demeanor Hillary Clinton has a soul after all. Because he knows her personally, Dick Morris is perhaps Hillary Clinton's worst enemy... he would probably say so himself, among the other nasty things he says about her. However, one would expect a different sort of revelation from one's worst enemy. You might expect him to say that beneath Hillary's public face is a cold, heartless person. Morris says just the opposite. Maybe that's because Morris is such a cold, calculating individual he doesn't appreciate a compassionate human being... and he doesn't realize he's actually helping Hillary in a sense by humanizing her. As for "the ends justify the means' comment, and her demanding personality, there is an element of that in any politician. I am not a big Hillary Clinton fan but I am delighted to learn that she actually is a decent person with compassionate convictions rather the soulless shell she is depicted as. If this is what her worst enemy says about her maybe some of the nice things her supporters say about her are actually true. It's just reassuring to know that we do have some decent people on our side of the political fence.
I wonder if Dick could give us any examples? And why wouldn't Sean ask for some? I'm just wondering.. oops I was thinking about what real journalists/political analysts would do, not partisan hacks.
great insight and analysis? fer reals?
Morris needs to get over being fired by Clinton.
Also, I have often wondered why the right-wing talking heads, like Hannity, give so much credibility to an obviously closeted homosexual like Morris (not that there's anything wrong with it). For instance, when a gay person talks with these people about gay rights, their positions or points made are always diminished by the fact, in itself, that they are gay. But because he is saying what they want to hear - mostly smears against the Clintons - they have him on again and again. He is portrayed as a Clinton expert - even though it is clear that he is simply trying to get back at them for firing him.
Because he has this toesucker on so often, Hannity must have a hard time finding guests who agree with his far right misinformation. Fox is nearly washed up, the only ones who take them seriousely anymore are to last 15 to 18 percent who still believe Bush has a brain.
This is interesting. I can plainly see HRC's point of view (looking past the rhetoric of TrickyDickyII and Shamity), but I also read that charitible giving is higher in the Red States than in the Blue. How does that equate to one not being able to be Christian and Republican?
Tax breaks, my son. Tax breaks.
See, us liberals understand that it's our responsibility to pay for the things that we buy. Or, at least, for the things our representatives buy. Like bombs, and hummers and airplanes and stuff. So we loyally and honestly fill out our tax forms, and write that check each April. And we honestly deduct the $20/week that we give to the church, and usually blow off the hand-me-down clothes or canned food, or volunteer work we donate.
Conservatives, on the other hand, love the bombs and planes and such, but think their taxes should be lower despite their "hobby". Just look what George the Lesser has done with the combination of war and cutting taxes. And with that state of mind, they have no problem claiming imaginary charitable giving to reduce their taxes.
Go to a national sales tax, and watch those redstate/bluestate statistics crumble.
Very true, neondesert-
The Republicans I work with spend a crazy amount of their time complaining about taxes. Love the war, love using the freeways, Nat'l parks, this series of tubes called the internets.
I've mentioned here before that I've managed to get myself into the loop for one of my co-workers Republican email lists. Just the other day I got one with a long bad poem (Tax his bed, tax when he's dead, etc.), I think it's making the rounds, this email, and the best part is the list; A long list of taxes that didn't exist 100 years ago, and comments about how prosperous and crime free the country was a century ago.
Never mind that the motor vehicle and recreational watercraft taxes probably wouldn't have pulled in a buncha revenue in 1907, I just wish these people that imagine life was pretty slick 100 years ago could go back in time for a while.
I'd guess that a few days of working 16 hour days with lead paint and tossing their crap in a ditch outside their door might de-romanticize it a bit.
For anyone else that enjoys bad conservative philosophy, here's a link to that thing.

Neondesert, I think it goes deeper than your analysis for some people. Sure tax breaks help, but why would I donate $100 to a charitable cause, just so I don't send $15, $28, $35 to government? If I pay the taxes, I would be $65-85 ahead. Yeah, there are people out there writing off donated clothes (Bill Clinton comes to mind here), etc. but there are also some people out there donating beyond the deductible amount. One size does not fit all. A national sales tax would not change my giving habits, although from above it appears it would be smarter if I didn't donate at all, sending the money to the government instead.
Uh, Mr. Morris, while your on your holier-than-thou diatribe against Senator Clinton once again and since you seem to be setting yourself up as a great Christian example with the right to express moral and religious outrage, did it every occur to you to revisit Christ's teaching wherein he advises, "Judge not, that you be not judged?" Just wondering. (There doesn't seem to be a loophole attached to that particular command, such as "You may judge another when ________.") But then, maybe you are a psychic, since you claim to read Senator Clinton's mind and intentions.
Did Sean call Dick 'a great American'?
Next up on FOX: Dick Morris plugging his new book "Hillary Clinton - Presidential Candidate or Anti-Christ."
We Report, You Decide.
I can't take anything that Dickie the toesucker says seriously... He's a smarmy, vengeful little toad, and the one person who I simply will not allow to appear on my television for more than a second or two...I will say this, though... The Clinton's deserve what they get for ever letting this soulless excuse for a man anywhere near 'em. Triangulation, my ass... Clinton made a deal with the devil to gain power, and little Dickie the toesucker is the price they pay for doing so.
And look at that photo...he looks like he lives under a bridge. I think you can see the horns starting to poke out of the side of his head...
I just do NOT understand how people take Dick Morris seriously. This man makes money by trashing the Clintons, especially Hillary. Morris does not speak with any real authority. He's just pissed because he was fired for putting a prostitute on the phone with Pres. Clinton while having a tryst with this prostitute. It' rather amusing to see the "fair and balanced" station not mention that fact.
Barbara
Come on, Dick. Stop being dishonest with yourself. Just say the words: "I'm Mad as Hell because she wouldn't sleep with me!" Get it out in the open. It's not like we haven't figured it out already.
Neocons place the "Free Market" before all else. Their answer to every social ill can be solved by "the free market". They follow the teachings of Adam Smith http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Smith
Before the teachings of their proclaimed savior Jesus Christ.
Morris the Troll
The fact that Morris's main claim to fame is to trash the Clinton's and try to suck every last dime out of it is beyond pathetic.
He has nothing to say that isn't just nonsense. I have no idea what Morris's own religious beliefs are, but I can see what he practices- deceit, greed, avarice, lies. And he's going to comment on Hillary's spirituality?
I'm rally tired and disgusted with the way the current Administration has used religion as some kind of litmus test. Can't we come back to SEPERATION of church and state. How and what a person worships supposedly is one of the cornerstones of our democracy and constitution.
Given that that's been trashed, by numerous trash talkers like Morris. I guess the only rebuke here is to tune out and register complaints.
It's an exercises in futility to have a discussion on how so many have perverted the teaching of Jesus. Anyone can read the New Testament and it's a far far cry form Dick Morris.
The "poor" were foremost in the teachings of Christ. So why Morris is even trying to spin, turn, a positive into a negative in this regard as something bad about Hillary, just makes you scratch your head and go 'huh?".
He should go back under the bridge.
Thanks Mr Dick Morris and Mr Insanity. I'm now informed. Your character assassinations are only helping me to find Clinton more appealing everyday. The lunkheads at Faux "News" have been salivating over Clinton for years, they are so rabid. Why I believe that the haters would just cream their pants to have Clinton be President. Perhaps these guys, including Billdo and Limpballs, simply need a visit to their local dominatrix to cure their bad boy behavior, get their demons exercised, and stop projecting all their wet dreams on Hillary Clinton.
The heck with these guys-they are all so completely jealous of Hillary they can't stand it. Everyone of them has a washed up career, and Hillary is taking hers all the way. And she's a woman on top of that. Why, their inadequacies can't be more apparent.
