Despite campaign flip-flop, Blitzer declared Lieberman "very consistent from day one" on Iraq

On the February 7 edition of CNN's The Situation Room, host Wolf Blitzer stated that Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (CT) has "been very consistent from day one" on Iraq. In response to Blitzer's assertion, which he made after airing a clip of his earlier interview with Lieberman, CNN anchor Jack Cafferty responded, "Indeed he has." In fact, Lieberman has not been "very consistent" on Iraq: as Media Matters for America has repeatedly noted, after his August 2006 primary loss to challenger Ned Lamont, Lieberman, who had been a strong supporter of the war, distanced himself from his earlier rhetoric. During his subsequent (and successful) general election campaign, Lieberman emphasized his intent to end the war and to bring U.S. forces home in a television ad and at various campaign events.

From the February 7 edition of CNN's The Situation Room:

BLITZER: Senator Joe Lieberman speaking with us earlier today right here in the Situation Room.

Let's go to Jack Cafferty. He's in New York with "The Cafferty File." One thing about Lieberman, Joe -- he's been very consistent from day one.

CAFFERTY: Indeed he has -- except in terms of what political party he belongs to these days.

Must be anti Lieberman day at MMFA.

One thing you can count on, Anna Nicole Smith is dead and the cable news shows will be non stop talking about it while the Libby Trial is going on.

You're right about the cable talk shows. The Libby trial is very important and not really being covered very well

          Hey Solon,

It's being covered pretty thoroughly on Hardball. You're probably not a big fan of Chris Matthews but if you can stomach him for one hour you'll find his coverage of the Libby trial is about the best on cable.

He loves the Libby story, Matthews has been out front in being critical of Cheney and the war. Look how he used the F word yesterday on Imus.

No, it's just another anti-misinformation (not "anti-Lieberman") day. One in a series, because of outlets like CNN.

I agree with that. This is the typical pattern... one outlet does a poorly written or misinformed piece...then, the others follow with a series of 'confirmatory' pieces...supporting the original misinformation.

        Lady…that was uncalled for.

You used the untimely death today, of a thirty-nine year old mother, as a “flash in the pan” device for that snide lead-in of yours? Even Senator Lieberman would turn away from that awkwardly inept non sequitur. You besmirch yourself rudely.

I can testify that when I was a Connecticut resident and while Joe was my Senator I never smelled pee in the CT subways.

Great!  If he can also stand on a pile of rubble, he is qualified to be the Republican presidential nominee.

Just insert your favorite moderate maverick in there .... I think Wolfy made the same comment on McCain about his position on the escalation ... errr... surge.  At least i think it was him, may have been Matthews ... oh well.

Partisan hackery by mmfa...after Lieberman jilted the democrat party. The ad cited by mmfa doesn't in any way suggest a flip flop on the war in Iraq.

Lieberman plainly states that he wants to end the war in Iraq...in a way that brings stability in the middle east...and doesn't leave the US more vulnerable.

Keerist...who doesn't want the war in Iraq to end. That in no way reflects a flip flop. This is a very weak effort by mmfa. The shroud around mmfa as a media watchdog is slipping...exposing them more and more as political operatives.

Partisan politics is certainly their right...but don't feed me the hokum about being "media watchdogs...identifying conservative misinformation".

You can bet Lieberman's idea of stability is US troops permanently stationed in Iraq and bombing anyone that doesn't obey the US puppet government. He's another of AIPAC's "kill all arabs for Israel" stooges. His voting record proves it.

Anti-semite hate rant leaves a steaming pile of horseturds.

You can site NO evidence that Lieberman wants permanent military bases in Iraq.

You can site NO evidence that Lieberman supports bombing "anyone that fails to obey the US government".

You can site NO evidence that AIPAC wants to "kill all Arabs for Israel"

          In fact...you can't show anything...but a bigoted hate rage.
